Adam Caplan @caplannfl The #Jets are bringing in speedy WR Donnie Avery (Rams, Titans) in for a visit, a source confirmed. #freeagency
4.27? Dang, sounds like Deion came out of retirement! I'd give him a shot, have Sanchini work him out. Speed is what we need. Can he play safety???
Come on man!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can we have an interest in someone who's actually worth signing, that doesn't have some kind of prolonged injury issue and would actually sign here and make a positive impact??? S O J Welcome Back!!!
I don't understand the hate. Donnie can be very useful for us. Yeah, hes injury prone, but between him and Chaz, theres huge potential for break out performances. They are both lightening quick. He shouldn't demand a monster contract. He might even be had for something close to a vets minimum with a little incentives. I like both of these moves cuz we would be paying pretty much the vets minimum while getting WRs that have the potential of having decent years barring injury. I don't might the injury risk at all.
I love the idea of bringing in a carbon copy injury risk. Between two injury risks that complete the same task if and when healthy, you have to expect that one of them can stay healthy for the year between the two. That would leave us with one super fast deep threat at half the price of one healthy guy. Very bright idea again imo.
I guess the Jets just want to find depth and speed at positions that lacked it last year, and with our salary cap the cheap ones are the injury prone guys with something to prove.
You guys are awesome - let me throw out 2 names of who these guys REALLY are, except they are coming off injuries Justin McCarens & Chansi Stucky
To add, while signing Avery doesn't annoy me, hosting him when the Jets have yet to address their biggest weaknesses does piss me off.
When you can't bring in your option A and B, sometimes it's better to bring in a couple of options K and N to at least make sure that you're padding depth onto your roster without breaking the bank. Bringing in a few veteran minimum guys that have question marks on them with the idea of keeping them around if they show something doesn't cost you very much, and it's a good way to bring some potentially positive upgrades to the roster. I like that we're signing some small guys here and there while we're trying to hook our real main priorities. It shows that Tanny is going to spend some needed money in Free Agency this year and he's working with a fluid list of players that he can bring in to hopefully improving the team's depth issues. Just because this guy isn't Brandon LLoyd doesn't mean this isn't a nice little move for us.
5 years and an ACL ago he ran that, he couldn't make the field on a Titans team with no WR talent should tell you something
