"Rich Cimini of ESPN New York reports that the Jets are still looking to trade ILB Bart Scott despite finding very little interest in the veteran.

Scott has a $4.2 million guaranteed salary to deal which is seen as a ”deal breaker” by potential teams. The more likely scenario is that Scott will be released at some point in the near future. There was some speculation that the Giants and Ravens could end up being options for him if he becomes available."

It is just hard to imagine them trading him attached to all that money --I see us releasing him as being more realistic,,,but you never know
    ps Cimini is a douche

I found this most interesting because (despite his fully guaranteed contract) the Jets would, according to Cimmy, prefer to pay to not have him on the roster. This has to mean the Jets think Scott's skills have gone wayyyy down hill.

Or they think he is a huge cause of the locker room concerns...

honestly i'd be very very disappointed if the Jets let go of Bart. the intangibles he brings to this team cannot be ignored. he is a vocal leader as well as a leader by example. sure, he may not be as agile or fast as he was 5 years ago but he PLAYS HIS ROLE VERY WELL. that ROLE is a 2-down linebacker who takes on fullbacks and o-lineman freeing up plays for the other linebackers (David Harris) to make tackles. this type of role results in low tackle and sack numbers. his contributions to the team are not those you can read in a box score and therefore i think the Jets would be doing themselves an injustice in letting Bart walk. also, who the fuck is going to replace him? Josh Mauga, GTFOH, if they bring in McClain then fine, i can understand why cutting Scott loose is a good decision, but ONLY if they can find someone to replace him at the level he plays at.

Although the cap numbers are completely different, the Jets' willingness to keep Cancer Holmes leads me to doubt that the decision on whether to keep Bart comes down to locker room concerns.

well it could easily be a combo. Bart clearly lost a step last year, their fear that he will lose another one, coupled with his price, plus locker room outburts is an issue.

With Holmes, he is still young and insanely talented. He can be counted on to bounce back. Also it could be Holmes disdain for Schotty's offense that pissed him off more than anything.

Without knowing what goes on in the locker room, we don't know for sure, but its just a guess.

Looks like the Jets are going ILB for their first pick if they let Scott go.

Great point. I've always known Bart to be outspoken but who knows if he's also hypercritical or divisive.

Well just maybe RR is POed at Scott for not being his man in the locker room & not telling RR supposedly what was going on which is why he earned his exit pass from us

If they can afford to just cut and pay him then they can obviously afford to make some decent acquisitions in free agency...so why the fuck is their highlight re-signing Folk or Thomas who may still be months away of from being able to run?

The money is already 'spent' it doesnt equate to them being able to make any other moves.

Cutting him and having a UDFA take his roster spot doesnt equate to any money gained or lost either. They are trying to trade him to open up the cap space so they can sign somebody.

And if they end up with both safeties, crap like this (about not signing anyone) will stop being posted.

If the money is "spent" and they cut him then they have to replace him and spend more money, right? Do you really think a UDFA is going to replace him? Are the Jets planning to just mail in this year? Maybe they should as they are looking to be the only team in the division who may end up not improving..unless of course Miami signs Alex Smith, then there will be two.

As far as the two safeties, all I hear is that they are average at best...(of course I don't agree but just read through those threads)

  19. Maybe they give Nick Ballore a shot next to Harris. The team was extremely high on him throughout the preseason & by December his teammates were campaigning for him to make AFC pro bowl special teamer.

He was very instinctual on his college film..and above average instinct seems to thrive in RR schemes. Surrounded by the many veterans this team already has in place along the front 7, I'm not so sure Ballore's young blood & instincts wouldn't be an upgrade over Scott.

I hope so...I wasn't high on Scott at all last year which makes Tannenbaum's blunder even more annoying. I wouldn't be surprised if Ballore wouldn't play better..I am just incensed that they would end up cutting him and wasting that money..especially since they never spent it last year and maybe that's why we didn't make the playoffs.

Now I look at what he is doing now..the Jets and NE both started FA with the same cap room..what have we done? Signed a backup QB, a backup WR, an aging vet only 5 months removed from an Achilles tear and a PK that made only 76% of his attempts last year. Is that something to be excited about? I can only hope there is a plan that surprises us all.
