It really pissed me off that even the Jets analysts on SNY when discussing Sanchez's struggles just REFUSE to mention Braylon Edwards' absence affecting this offense. It was so damn obvious.....unless they were told by Jets management to not make any statements that would be considered defamatory toward Tanny and how he does his job.

Hopefully, one of those is a familiar one : The Real #17.

what history of success? if we had so much success running up the middle we would have been doing that most of the game.

The Giant D was a different D from our game through the SB, name me the team that ran on them well from that point of the season on? It's nice to look at #s and what some other teams did but each game is different and you have to adjust on the fly.

The Jets were down b/c the D allowed a NINETY NINE yard TD pass on 3rd and 10 from their 1 yard line.

No matter what happens fans will complain, you'd be going crazy if they ran 3 times, milked the clock and punted. The bottom line is the O failed and that's all that matters.

I think that's what is bothering the fans. We had 25 rushers for 105 yards. Take out two runs by the receivers totaling 5 yards, we had 23 rushes for 100 yards. Take out Sanchez 4 for 13, we had 19 rushes 87 yards.

Greene had 14 rushes for 58 yards, 4.1 avg.
LT had 5 rushes for 29 yards, 5.8 avg.

I see great success and yet we only rushed 19 times when the majority of the first 3 quarters we were either leading or down 3. The Giants took a two score lead with 13 seconds left in the 3rd quarter. Oh and neither running back had fumbled the ball that day.

I see a very successful running game from the stats. And if I remember correctly, the Giants middle of the defense was where most of the runs occurred. They could not stop it, giving up +4.0 yds/per carry.

Let's look at their rushing attempts:

    1st qtr:
    Greene:
    2nd and 2 NYG 45, 3 yd run
    1st and 10 NYG 42, 1 yd run(setting up passing situations)
    1st and 10 NYG 18, 1 yd run(setting up passing situations)
    2nd & 2 NYJ 36, 3 yd run

    LT:
    1st & 10 NYJ 20, 1 yd run
    2nd & 9 NYJ 21, 5 yd run

    2nd qtr:
    Greene:
    1st & 10 NYJ 39, 4 yd run
    2nd & 9 at 50, 5 yd run

    LT:
    1st & 10 at 50, 6 yd run(penalty set up 3rd and long)
In 2 min situation LT had 11 yd run.

    3rd qtr:
    Greene:
    1st & 10 NYJ 23, 5 yds
    2nd and 5 NYJ 28, 8 yds
    1st & 10 NYJ 36, 4 yds
    1st and 10 NYJ 28, 7 yds
    1st & 10 NYJ 19, 13 yd run

    LT:
    2nd & 3 NYJ 35, 6 yds. penalty makes it 1st and 15 on next play

    4th qtr:
    Greene:
    down 20-7, 1st and 10 NYJ 26, loses 1 yd
we passed rest of drive getting down to 1 where Mangold botched the snap.

after Eli INT we passed our way to TD to pull w/in 20-14

we didn't run the rest of the game.

We basically had 1-2 drives where we ran effectively. Our 2 TD drives were mostly passing drives, we didn't have any sustained drives where we ran more than passed

So in the 1st quarter, second drive you listed, we failed passing on 3rd and 4? 2nd quarter, we failed passing on 3rd and 4 again?

I'm not looking at the 4th quarter because I agreed we need to throw there down 2 scores.

I already listed the whole 3rd quarter offensively on the first page. Passing game stalled completely while the running game was picking up chunks of yards. The passing game put us in the holes of 2nd/3rd and long because of consecutive incomplete passes. I just don't understand why we didn't run more in the 3rd when it was clearly working. And clearly our passing game wasn't working. Here is the 3rd quarter again:

Look at this, first drive of the second half down 3.

    Pass, pass, pass, punt.

Next drive down 3: Run for 5. Run for 8. Run for 4. (now 2nd and 6)->Sack for -6. Incomplete, punt.

Still down 3. Then run for 7. Run for 6. Then Jets backed up to 1st and 15. Then 2nd and 18 and then 3rd and 18, punt. First drive of the 2nd half with penalties.

Still down 3. Greene for 13 yards. Incomplete, incomplete, incomplete, punt. No penalties.

You think 3rd and 4 is a rushing down? If we ran it 3rd and 4 and get stopped then everyone would be complaining "why didn't we pass?"

we had 2 successful mostly running drives, one a sack ended it(you can't run every play) and the other a penalty ended it.

Our 2 TD drives were 70-80% passing

One of those drives were in the 4th where I AGREE that we should be passing in that game.

I never said 3rd and 4 was a passing down, I just said we failed getting those first downs both by passing. Showing that passing game was not on point after that first drive.

You fail to mention in the 3rd quarter that one drive was halted after a 13 yard gain and then 3 straight incompletions. You also fail to mention we come out of halftime and go 3 and out. Good momentum there.

The play that the sack happened on was a 2nd and 6. We just ran for 5,8,4. Whats wrong with exploiting something until the other team can stop it? With the way our running game was going, worst case we have 3rd and 6, most likely we have 3rd and 2.

I was showing by the sack, that the passing game was still not successful all of the 3rd quarter while the running game was much more successful.

It just baffled me why we continually threw the ball when the passing game was 3/10 with one sack, one penalty, one first down. The passing game accumulated 16 total yards, if you include the holding on one pass play, 6 total yards. The run game accumulated 43 yards. 43 yards on 6 rushes. So they were average 7 yards per rush, and 1.6 per pass. I see a clear indication that the run game should have been used more since it was much more effective that quarter. All this in the 3rd quarter down by 3.

    Junc will defend Schotty forever.

I wonder if he secretly wished Sparano's offense to fail so he can virtually scream "I told you so" on TGG.

I will be the one defending Tony when the board wants him out w/in a year or 2. I put more emphasis on execution of an offense rather than playcalling(although to be fair I did bash hackett's playcalling).

Again, it's easy to look at 59 passes and screa we should have run more but the situation of the game dictated we needed to throw a lot.

Thats a huge point. If players can't consistently execute plays, where does the blame lie? Is it on the coaching for not preparing or throwing too much at the players, or is the players themselves losing focus and making mistakes? These are things that we as fans won't know until we see the players in a new system. This is what we have this year, time see what we have in our offensive unit.

Last year was all about the OL, we couldn't open holes for the run game or protect the passer. From all we hear Fat Tony is putting an emphasis on preotecting the passer and the OL and if it is improved I expect a much improved QB and offense. We'll see. I think Tony will have success here and Schottenheimer will have success in SL.

I agree, main problem was the OL. It limits options offensively. Any reason to call him "fat" tony? I like his idea on "chunk" plays, something we rarely saw last year. Him and Rex mesh much more philosophy wise than Schotty and Rex did.
