http://rotoworld.com/player/nfl/3685/kamerion-wimbley "League sources tell NFL Network's Jason La Canfora that the Raiders will formally announce the release of OLB Kam Wimbley on Tuesday. Kevin Boss' release actually hasn't been formally announced yet. Per La Canfora, Boss and Wimbley's releases will be announced together. Wimbley will hit the market as a 28-year-old pass rusher with 16 sacks over the past two seasons and versatility to fit both a 3-4 defense as a linebacker and a 4-3 scheme as a defensive end. Wimbley would be an awfully nice fallback plan for teams that miss out on top free agent pass rusher Mario Williams." Sign him? Affordable? Probably not. Could he sign with the Patriots as a cheap alternative to Mario?
All this free agent signing has to do with our plan for the draft. And however this all unfolds will give us an idea of what we are gonna do in the draft. I say try to get him for a good price.
The guys contract was for an average of $10m a year so I dont see a good price and Wimbley going together.
Great news. Wimbley should be priority #1 as soon as he hits the wire. Not saying he is worth throwing huge $'s at, but he is a talent we can definitely use.
Its by no means good news for us. He is a good talent that will comand more money than we can offer. Putting huge dollars down on Wimbley would mean that getting Keller signed to a long term deal would be next to impossible. The jets are looking at patching holes this year in FA, not signing stars. With the contracts coming up next year like Keller's and Green's we need something in the tank for 2013 to give these guys.
I disagree, but you might have guessed that. I do agree that isn't worth putting huge money down on him, but calling and making it known that the Jets are interested is a no-brainer. Maybe he wants to play for a defensive coach on a winning team for once in his career.
I'm not condoning the signing of Wimbley, but why should we be concerned with Keller? If we're a ground and pound team like Sparano and Rex as proclaiming, what use is a glorified wide receiver going to be at tight end? Whether we can sign Keller to a long term deal shouldn't matter, he doesn't even fit the so-called identity of this team.
I would not be looking to break the bank to re-sign either Keller or Greene, happy to keep both but I wouldnt get into a bidding war over either of them.
Both players are one-dimensional in their own right, I won't be surprised if they both get signed before next season, but not for a lot. Keller will probably end up walking, Greene will probably end up signing an incentive-laden deal with plenty of injury clauses. This is of course assuming that the Jets don't find their eventual replacements in FA and the draft.
They are both due for a raise. Greene is making only 600k or so and due for a good bump up. Keller is one of our best weapons on the offense and the staff belives in him. He led the Jets in receiving last year and has been a stablizing force for Sanchesz. I don't belive he's about to go anywhere. Even in a run based offense you need TE's taht can make plays in the passing game. Hopefully we see Sprano use keller more effectively than as a safty valve this season.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/16/report-raiders-releasing-kamerion-wimbley-today/ Bumped this thread with news of his apparent release. Incarcerated Bob says we're going to be in on him early so there's that.
