Why aren't we going after Jason Campbell??? He's better than Henne, and he's about to sign with Chicago where he has no chance to start.

Considering the Jets just committed to Sanchez for better or worse, may as well go with McElroy as the backup and spend the $$ elsewhere.

Not a horrible option, not many players will want to be here, a guy who comes cheap would be a very good idea.

this is how i feel now too.

bringing in a backup qb was mostly to start a qb competition. now that there's no chance for a competition.. it's just a backup qb spot. anyone is a step up from brunell.

one of the things i don't really worry about with sanchez is him missing games. for all the terrible gq pictures he's taken, he's a pretty tough guy.

HE IS NOT HUMAN. HE IS A PIECE OF IRON!

edit: actually, i read that wrong. i meant i don't mind signing stanton. i don't want to go into the season with mcelroy was the backup.

Very much a No.2 QB though. It would be nice to sign someone that has a better chance of starting if Sanchez begins to struggle - if only to light a fire under Mark.

He's coming in...'in a couple of days'. Suggests it's not a priority move.

I brought this up in another thread and it wasn't received very well. If we can get Stanton cheap I'm all for it otherwise we have more pressing needs else where....

We need a no2 who will take just above vet min....and more than anything be able to play more than qb draw unlike Brunell

Stanton would a good option as our #2 QB. He isn't going to be a starter, he has 5 years NFL experience, although not many starting. He he's a very smart football player who's career never got started due to many injuries. The few games he has started he was decent, not great.

I'm fine with this move if it happens.

Stanton would give the JETS a viable #2 behind Sanchez.

Because 3-4 mil a year is too much for a backup with all the holes we have to fill.

Totally agree. And what thread was that not received well in, because honestly, that is very logical. This team has a number of pressing needs and we need to spend our money very efficiently. (This is why going for one big name FA makes little to no sense)

why? What has Stanton shown that makes him more valuable to us as a backup then Henne? We need a guy to be capable of pushing Sanchez. Stanton is not that guy! He has very, very little experience.

So there will be no real competition for Sanchez to be pushed into excelling. Stanton has all of 4 starts! Real competition!
