He just about said he did not want to play in REX's circus on Sirius radio today.

And it depends on the cost, obviously...

I think he would have an easy time getting on the field with us because he provides everything Greene isnt. If we could get him at a reasonable deal for 3 years, our backfield would look a lot better looking forward. Im sure Tony Sparano would love this signing.

Tolbert doesn’t like ‘media circus’ surrounding Jets

San Diego RB Mike Tolbert, an unrestricted free agent doesn’t seem to be all that interested in the Jets, at least judging by comments he made when being interview on SiriusXM Radio by hosts Adam Schein and Rich Gannon.
When asked if the Jets are on his radar, he said, “I mean, they could be. It just depends on what type of interest they would have in me. They’ve obviously got Shonn Greene, who is coming into his own, and they do need another back to go along with him. I think I could fill that void, too, but at the same time they do sometimes have that whole media circus thing going on and I’m not the type of person that gets into the whole limelight thing and throwing players under the bus and stuff like that. I like letting my play do the talking. I don’t like to do a lot of talking off the field. I like to do it in between the lines. So that’s a place that I would think about but I’m not too sure that I would end up going there.”
Schein then asked him “What scares you about that circus atmosphere with the Jets?”
Tolbert replied, “I don’t know. It’s not me, you know? I’m one of those guys that I’ll do interviews and I’ll talk to people on camera. I’m not afraid of the limelight. I just don’t seek it out. And it feels like sometimes some of those guys seek out the limelight just so they can be seen. If that’s their personality, if that’s the way they want to do it, that’s fine but I’m not that type of guy. To each his own. And New York is a big city. It’s one of those things that, any little thing that’s said or any little thing that’s seen, it’s all over the place because you are a New York Jet. It’s something that I would rather just keep to myself and just relax. If I played for the Jets or the Giants I probably wouldn’t go out a lot, you know? Because there’s always some type of negative connotation going on with when you see athletes out or entertainers out. People want to see you doing wrong or put you in a bad light and I just like keep myself out of those types of situations.”

Well if anything, he sounds like the type of guys we should be putting in our locker room... I highly doubt this signing for many reasons, but I would like it if it actually happened.

Tolbert is a quality all around back. He's good at every aspect of the position: running, catching, and blocking and would be an asset for ANY team that picks him up. He puts up solid numbers every season. I would take him in a second, but sounds like he's thinking otherwise..

I think we can convince him to join the Jets, he's a good locker-room guy and I think the Jets could use a guy like Tolbert whose a ST ace, good in pass protection and can of course run the football

Maybe we can change our antics a little bit for a guy that could impact our team on 2 of the 3 phases?

Someone should ask him about the Chargers record against the Jets.

We don't need to spend all that money for an RB. Rather spend it elsewhere.

The Jets don't have the money to spend on a RB and it is not one of this team's primary needs. RT, S OLB, WR, back up QB, and blocking TE are all higher on the needs chart than a RB. Let's not throw money away on a guy like this.

I agree, with all except QB. No way the Jets bring in someone to "compete" with Sanchez now after the extension. He's their boy for better or worse for the next 2 seasons. My guess is McElroy is the backup from now on.

WTF? Jacobs is a fucking bum. I dont give a shit if he wants to be here. I would want to play for the Jets but does that mean I should? No.

Give me a break. If you honestly would rather Brandon Jacobs than Mike Tolbert then... wow, Im sorry.

And if you read the quote, he just said that he doesnt like the media that revolves around the Jets, whats so wrong with that?...

First...as good as he is, we don't need a RB to suck up our remaining cap space.
Having said that, what he said is a plus, not a minus. He could be a great additions to the lockeroom.
The NY media is a circus so that's no surprise

Never wanted Tolbert anyway. Our funds should go to the OL not RB.

Jacobs is also a mouth-breathing, over the hill, useless piece of garbage with a bad case of mouth diarrhea. NO

well, i was replying to people who were talking about speed. no one said it was the most important thing. just that bush seems faster than tolbert. tolbert really doesn't seem quick at all.

i agree that we need a back who can operate on 3rd down. but assuming that tolbert gets a fair contract, is it really worth the money for this team?

really, tolbert is better in most areas bc there is just nothing special about greene. he's not fast. he's not shifty. he doesn't break tackles, which is especially frustrating bc of the way he's built. he lacks vision. he pretty much goes out there and takes what is in front of him.

but purely as a runner, tolbert doesn't really offer much either. his strengths lie in his receiving/blocking abilities. he's also never been a feature back. the only numbers that he's put up that stand out is his touchdown total from 2010.

tolbert isn't a threat to rip off a 30 yard run. he's not really a bruiser. i've had to watch him a bit because of fantasy football the past 2 years.. and he's just not that impressive to watch. he's a great complement back to have on your team when you already have a great #1 guy. as soon as mathews started to learn how to block, tolbert was phased out more and more.

we need a playmaker pretty badly. from everything i've seen, tolbert is not that guy. he's very good in his own right. but i just don't think he's what this offense needs. or rather, i don't think he's someone the team should spend the money on. we need an elite guy. if our offense is going to be built on the ground game, it only makes sense that we have an elite guy at rb. easier said than done, i know. but i would rather draft a guy with that kind of upside than spend the money on a guy who we know is not elite.

i don't think it's worth spending the money on a rb who's pretty much only going to upgrade 3rd downs. i get that he can catch passes on any down, but you get the gist. just browsing through the nfl free agent list.. we could take a flier on someone like kevin smith, tim hightower, justin forsett, steve slaton, etc if we need a cheap back who can catch passes out of the backfield.

Very much so and he wont really cost THAT much. Last year Darren Sproles got 4 years 14 mil (3.5 per year), I don't think he makes more than that, most likely less.

Look for something in the range of 3 years 9-10 million if the market is good for Tolbert. If not and many teams aren't offering him a contract , look for something like 3 years 7-8 million.

2.5-3.5 million per year for a back who will make an impact on this team is well worth the money.
