Turns out we'll be getting a bunch of comp. picks potentially. 5, 6, and two 7s thanks to Ellis, Braylon, Coleman, and B Smith. I swapped out our 7th for Schlauderaff and brought in a 6th for Lowery.

    1- Nick Perry, LB USC
    - An athletic, potentially dominant passrusher. Perry has all of the tools, the size, and the mentality to be a great passrusher, and he's probably the only one that I think is truly the type the Jets should look at in Rd 1. At this point, I just hope he's there at 16.

2- George Iloka, S Boise State
    - Size of a smaller LB with athleticism, he's a hybrid safety to cover freak TEs. He's not an intimidator like other safeties of his size have been, but he has what the Jets need to cover the middle of the field.

    3- Brandon Mosley, OT Auburn
    - Not a guy getting a ton of pub, he was a former JuCo TE that really emerged in his two years at Auburn. He's a RT with legitimate LT potential, which (as I always say and always will say) is vital to me. He's got great length and athleticism, and he's developing quickly.

    4- Greg Childs, WR Arkansas
    - People are finally starting to wake up from their Rip Van Winkling on this kid. If he repeated his pre-injury Jr year/had a healthy Sr year he's a top 2 rd guy easily. Childs is a smooth athlete that runs crisp routes (looks faster than he is, though tested really well), blocks VERY well, and can make small plays into big ones.

    Trade our 5 and 6 for a mid 4th.

4 (trade)- Matt Reynolds, OL BYU
    - They need multiple linemen this offseason, and if they don't add a vet in FA I'm hoping they pick a kid like Reynolds with a lot of college starting experience who can play as a rookie. Potentially a RT, but I think he'd work best inside.

    5c- Kevin Koger, TE Michigan
    - Fantastic blocking TE, he'll be in all of my mocks.

6 (Jax)- Dequan Menzie, DB Alabama
    - I've had an eye on him as a safety conversion prospect all season. I like the way he plays, and I think he could step in as a 4th corner right away.

    6c- Najee Goode, LB WVU
    - Tough, physical LB with some athleticism that isn't afraid to battle with linemen. I think he's got a lot of potential, but worst case can be a aggressive special teamer and spot player.

7c- Edwin Baker, RB Michigan State
    - I loved him last year, and I think that he still has a lot of potential. Not a burner, but can certainly play the position with aggressive running style and vision.

    7c- Junior Hemingway, Michigan
    - Strong build, hard worker, and physical. I'm not sure why he isn't more highly thought of, I think he can play as a 2/3 receiver in the NFL. He even turned in some great workout #s.

We didnt get a draft pick for Mason (he didnt meet the conditions)

I dont really like Perry @ 16, id be open to him if we traded down

I liked the mock on walterfootball where they have us trading down with the Browns(#22, they go up for floyd) and getting Perry then.

Id strongly prefer Gerell Robinson (Jets were big on him a few weeks ago) to Childs also.

Also I could be wrong but I dont think you can have 4 comp picks

Big fan of Koger though, him and Reynolds are prob my two favorite picks in your draft

Nick Perry is a top 12 or so talent in this draft, I can't imagine trading down and him being available. I would much rather have him than any other 34 olb + another pick. I see a lot if people here saying how great Perry would be late 20s when he could easily go in the top ten. He is the guy that can do exactly what the Jets want, no idea why risking that would be a viable option.

As for Childs vs Robinson, based on potential it's not really close. Childs is a natural, who would have been a top pick if not for injury (that he finally appears healthy from). I like Robinson as a later round guy, but he's really at best a solid player. If Childs checks out medically, he's an easy call, especially considering his speed numbers are way above what was expected st this point. He's one of the most well rounded prospects at the position.

My mistake in the mason deal, I shall eliminate that from the trade.

I don't see Perry anywhere near being a top 12 pick, in fact 16 is too high for him, trading back & picking him up in the 20's is the ONLY way I see the Jets drafting him. And knowing Mike T, that means he's not going to be a jet.

I like the Childs pick, I mocked him back in like January I think. Could be a sleeper.

I'm on the fence about Perry. He seems like more of an ideal 4-3 end and I haven't seen too much about his ability to play in space.

And I'm getting the feeling it's not likely they'll draft an offensive tackle maybe at all, let alone in the first 3 rounds. If they do wind up signing Vernon Carey, and they have faith in Vlad, and they can't find a taker for Hunter, that about fills up all the OT spots.

Im not sure if Perry can stand up and play in space. He’s an athletic freak, but Im not sure if his hips are loose enough... Some say he’s strictly a 4-3 end, and he himself envisions that as his ideal position.

Depending on who’s available, I could be okay with that pick.

I really like George Iloka- has more than ideal size to line up with a TE, is a solid tackler and has even played CB before. He might be a reach in the mid 2nd, but if we want him, thats where we are probably going to get him because I dont see him lasting til our 3rd round pick.

I like the OL picks (wish Matt Reynolds wasnt 27 though, but still solid).

And Childs could be a nice sleeper for us.

I like the Perry pick, but could see him going to buffalo at 10. He'll be a beast of a 43 end and the Bills need one in a bad way.

I also really like the Iloka pick in the second. Has the size and range we need on the back end.

Mosley and Childs are good value/need picks. I may prefer to double dip at either OLB or S in those picks, or perhaps go runing back, but I under stand where you were headed with the choices.

Reynolds and Kroger are a couple of good selections again. Kroger in the 5th would be wonderful for our depth at TE and having another huge body for Oline depth is a plus.

Of the late guys, I'm not a huge fan of Hemingway. I watched a lot of Michigan and he's one of those guys that was good at the NCAA level, but I don't see him having the quicknes to be much of a factor at the next level. I just tend to think he got open more becasue saftys were worried about Robinson running as opposed to great work of his own. Not that "sudden" guy you look for at the position Then again for a late comp pick may as well take a chance. :)

    Good work as always GH.

Not sure where the questions about Perry in a 34 are coming from considering that he's a perfect fit. He's actually a much better fit as a 34 LB than as a 43 end, and the fact that he said he "would prefer" to stay at end really means nothing. Most ends would, considering that's the position they've always played, but that has no bearing on where he's best off.

He's very good in space (I literally have NO idea where those questions come from, the kid is best when he can move around), changes direction well, chases down ball carriers, and is great at getting under and around OTs on the passrush. On the flip side, height and game strength make him less than stellar against the run, and asking him to play straight up against OTs consistently might wear him down more than he needs to.

When starting off the line he can read the field better and get to the ball quickly or use his speed to come up and jar blockers, rather than just getting overwhelmed at the line. It's the same skill that allows him to push the pocket so effectively, he can get into tackles and drive them back when he gets that size moving.

With the signing of BT minutes ago, IMO, it's highly unlikely we go 3-4 OLB in Rd 1 now. While I agree we still could use another OLB, since Pace & Thomas are on the decline of the careers, it isn't going to be a Rd 1 priority.

I rather draft Hightower to replace Scott (I believe he will be gone shortly) and have options with Hightower's flexibility.

ILoka is a great choice, we might have to take him in Rd 2 if we don't sign a FA Safety. Rumors have it the Jets & Broncos are looking at Meriweather.

Rest of your draft is solid.

WW85, where do you think the Jets go if they don't get an OLB in round 1? Kuechly? Hightower? Best available WR? Richardson(If he somehow falls)

Maybe Reily Reiff or Mike Adams.

I'm not sold on the resigning of Thomas taking OLB away as a priority. We still need to replace him, if not this moment, then very soon. If we drafft a guy in the first he does not have to start from day one, but can be worked in as the season progresses and has two vets around to mentor him in Pace and thomas. Pace also needs replaced as soon as next year. Resigning Thomas is a stop gap safty measure that should not affect our drafting needs much if at all.

I'm think if Richardson or Floyd fall they are up there. Hightower, Martin, Glenn and DeCastro should be in the mix as well. Adams is more of an outside chance type.

IMO, Reiff and Kuechly will be gone. If Philly passes on Kuechly, I'd take him in a heartbeat.

I'm not sold on a WR at #16, unless Floyd falls and that's not going to happen. Hill & Wright would be a reach.

I think Richardson is going to the Rams, if Blackmom & Mo-Cla are gone, which I expect.

I still think Hightower is the best option, with who should be available.

IMO we will be looking for BPA at one of our area's of need.

Most likely at #16, Mike Adams for OT, Hightower/Kuechly for ILB, Floyd for WR.

I think we end up drafting a pass rusher in round 2 or 3.

I agree Thomas isn't the long term solution. I don't have his signing #s (money) so I don't know the Jet's commitment.

We could get by with Pace & Thomas for another year and use Maybin in passing situations and draft an OLB in Day 2 (Friday).

Hightowers' flexibilty to step in , if Thomas injury isn't 100% and also replace Scott is huge. So, Hightower can replace either player right away.

The signing of BT really has absolutely no affect on my thoughts in this draft. They still need a player to take snaps away from Scott, sure, but that need would be lessened with the addition of a rookie LB/resigning of BT. He can still play on rushing downs, that's one element of his game that hasn't fallen off that badly, so we're OK there, and on passing downs they send 4 a great majority of the time and go with 2 LBs mostly as it is (and they have Harris/Mauga for that). If they're only rushing three then we have either man with 2/3 high or a cover 3 with all 5 zones underneath covered (so no outstanding coverage LB is needed, which means Pace/BT would be fine).

The reason I wanted Hightower in the past is because of that versatility, knowing that he could pretty much play that OLB role as a rookie and then step inside, but bringing BT back tells me that they feel solid with him starting another season. Now I'd wonder where Hightower would fit for the year, and whether or not he'd be worth that first rounder.

Now people might be saying "BUT GH, how could you say that about Hightower then still advocate Perry (a 34 OLB) in Rd 1? Wouldn't that LB be doing the same thing?"

Yes and no. Perry has two major advantages over Hightower in this case.
    1. His future is as a 34 OLB, and because he hasn't played LB before the extra time to develop/work in spots to start his career would be beneficial. Hightower doesn't need the time, and wouldn't even be developing at his true position if utilized as a 34 OLB in some spots. No BT means he would have started there, thus value gained, but yes BT means spot player out of position, and that's not what I want from a 1st rounder.

    2. High end, passrushing 34 OLBs are much more difficult to find than 34 ILBs, which SHOULD be pretty easy to pull in, especially when they're playing next to a stud like Harris.

This all means bootie if the Jets take Hightower intended him to STAY at 34 OLB, but in that case I'd still say Perry is the better long term fit. As is it if the Jets just flat don't want Scott playing by the end of the season, in which case it would make a lot more sense as well.

    You weasel.
I had my mock coming out with Nick Perry at 16 too.
He's an absolute stud - he might not even be there at 16.
He was projected top of 2nd round (at worst) before the combine and he blew it up in Indy.
People dont realize the athleticism he displayed at the combine -- AFTER PUTTING ON 20 LBS.
I had Iloka in my original mock -- but only for our 3rd round pick. Exactly the physical size we need to cover TEs.

You can look at it both ways, is your opinion right and mine wrong or vice versa?? I think we both have valid points, I'd rather get Hightower to replace Scott right now.

Hightower would play from day 1 in the middle. Perry isn't going to start from day 1 with a healthy BT.

You saying "Perry would be our future starter at OLB" is very true, but Hightower would be our immediate starter at ILB.

I don't like the idea spending a Mid 1st Rd pick on a player (Perry) that is going to be a situational player year 1, we have Maybin for that purpose. I understand Perry could be a future starter, since BT only has a 1 year deal. Scott has played his last game for the Jets.

Also, I have Hightower rated higher than Perry on my draft board, an important consideration.

I don't have Perry rated as high and feel he's a 20's pick at this time.

I truly believe with CP, BT, & Maybin the Jets will look at another position in Rd 1

If Floyd, Kuechly, Richardson or DeCastro (all immediate starters) fall to the Jet's pick, one of them would be my choice over Hightower. With Tannehill & Poe going in the first 15, one of these players may fall.

Now the first part of this has nothing to due with the players involved, jsut the theory being talked about in your post.

I have no problem with drafting a guy to not be a full time starter from day one, in round one. Teams with very good depth like the steelers do this often in cases like Woodley and Ziggy Hood. So while hightower may start out of the gate, Perry may have a much higher ceiling, so do you draft for immideate need or the potential of BPA. If both positions have great need which one is do you take, the versatility or the greater pass rush potential?

Now I under stand we lack the depth, but adding a guy that should at leat be good if not a starter by the end of year one at a position we are admitedly old and thin on depth at should be a high priority. We can find starters at ILB further down the the draft while taking a shot at a true stud who will have time to develop.

If I had to rank guys strictly on numbers from 1 to 50 instead of in tiers then High tower and Perry would be both vey close and very high on my list. I don't think you can go wrong with either one. That said I'll tkae the guy who has the greater potential off the edge, and in this case I feel thats Perry.

Really? I believe Hightower has a higher ceiling and a higher floor at this point in time compared to Perry.

Not in the class of Hightower, no later round pick is going to be as effective in the middle as Hightower.

Hightower isn't given enough credit for his speed on rushing the passer.

I also believe most Fans overrate pass rushing from the OLB position, it take a lot more than one person's talent to be an effective OLB rusher. Ware and Suggs are rare players, everyone else relies on the proper defense and play calling to generate an outside rush.

I have Hightower ranked in the late teens and Perry in the early/mid 20's so they're pretty close.

I'm not saying Harp, GH and You are wrong, I'm looking at it from a different perspective.
