ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the NFL is taking away "millions" in salary-cap space from the Cowboys and Redskins for illegal front-loading of deals during the 2010 uncapped year. The Cowboys were reportedly $4.7 million under the $120.6 million cap while the Redskins were in better shape at $31.3 million under. Although we don't have an exact figure for the cap hit, it's certainly conceivable that the league's action will have a deleterious effect on Dallas' speculated interest in major free agents such as LG Carl Nicks, DE/OLB Mario Williams, and
Cowboys losing 10 mm off Cap, Redskins 36 mm!!!! Holy shit, the Skins just got destroyed. I havent read the article but both these teams are fucked for breaking some contract violation apparently http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7...s-washington-redskins-lose-millions-cap-space http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?section=news/sports/pro/football&sa=NFL&eid=7677375
To make it Jet related Manish Mehta @TheJetsStream Reply Retweet Favorite · Open Jets now have about $15.1M of cap space RT @AdamSchefter: All that (Dal/Wash) money goes to 28 other teams -- $1.6 million each.
Per ESPN the other 28 other NFL teams, Raiders and Saints excluded, are to receive 1.6 mil from the Cowboys and Skins. Article also mentions something about the Skins and Boys splitting their penalty so I don't know if that means the 1.6 mil gets split or not. Either way a few more bucks should be good for the Jets! I'd post the link but don't have the post count yet =/
The crappy side of this, the Giants will be going against lesser competition next season. Id be pissed if I was RG3, not only do the Skins have no top draft picks, they wont have money to spend either. Hes going to be playing on a very crappy team for the next 3 years or so. Also apparently the Redskins were planning on going all in on signing Vincent Jackson. Guess not anymore
Why are Oakland and New Orleans excluded? I have to assume New Orleans' exclusion is related to their bounty scandal...
For the Skins seems to be related to the Fat Albert and Deangelo Hall contracts, apparently they violated the no more than 30% decrease in salary rule during the uncapped year.
