Just out of curiosity I compared Sanchez's first three years with that other QB in NY. No, I'm not saying Sanchez is as good or even WILL be as good as E. Manning, but statistically they were pretty damn close at the same point in their careers. And in Eli's fourth season, he threw TWENTY picks. How many Giants fans wanted him run out on a rail? My only point is give Sanchez some TIME. One year of college ball for Sanchez compared to how many for Eli?

    How about a little patience?

Agreed. Plus it eliminates weeks of articles about whether the jets Interest in Manning caused any damage to his relationship with the team.

Most writers are idiots. Ever read a Freeman article for CBS Sports?

Sanchez extension could complicate 49ers’ bid to re-sign Alex Smith

The 49ers’ contract talks with free agent quarterback Alex Smith have reached an apparent stalemate. The Niners are unwilling to meet Smith’s demand for a five-year deal, and are also being careful to not overpay.

According to CSN Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco, the 49ers have refused to give Smith a Ryan Fitzpatrick-type deal because San Francisco’s front office believes the six-year, $59 million extension is not “indicative of Fitzpatrick’s true value.”

And as Maiocco further notes, Friday night’s Mark Sanchez extension, valued at $40.5 million over three years and $58.25 million in five-year net worth, could toss another unexpected wrench into the 49ers’ negotiations with Smith.

Sources tell Maiocco that the 49ers want to leave the door open for 2011 second-round pick Colin Kaepernick, for whom the club traded up in last April’s draft. Therefore, San Francisco is “reticent” to offer Smith a lengthy contract that would include $20 million guaranteed. Fitzpatrick’s reported guarantee was $24 million. Sanchez’s is $20.5 million.

And so while the 49ers likely value Smith more than the NFL’s other 31 teams, their attempts to retain him are becoming more difficult as talks drag on.

No way man. If a Quarterback doesn't win a Super Bowl in his first 3 seasons he's clearly a failure.

This move = expensive make-up sex

The franchise is a rudderless joke.

    ^that post = uninformed dribble.

They're paying him an extra 2.7m for 3 years. If he doesn't get better they cut ties. I don't see what the problem is here. Enlighten me.

Why extend him now? It makes no sense. And the word you're looking for is "drivel" not "dribble."

This only shows that Sanchez is a weak-minded kid whose hurt feelings need to be soothed.

Actions speak louder than words. Tannenbaum pursues Manning. Manning says no thanks. Tannenbaum tries to save face.

It's just one more in a long line of contradictory moves by our fat joke of a GM.

Bottom line: if you truly believe Sanchez is your franchise QB, you don't go after a 36-year old Manning coming off multiple neck surgeries who hasn't played a single down the last 13 months.

What did Sanchise do last year to earn himself a 2 M raise plus added years? If anything he should take a pay cut. Watch the games.

It makes perfect sense. The move freed up 6 million and some change in cap space.

That statement is so retarded, I wouldn't be surprised if someone has to chew your food for you.

Tannenbaum made a cursory call, it's his job to explore all options, especially when an elite HOF bound QB comes available. Why would Tannenbaum have to save face for doing his job?

Improved his stats in almost all categories despite being injured because of a weak oline and receivers that couldn't get separation.

6.4 million in saved cap space this year. Does that mean nothing to you?

Watch the games? Ive rewatched every loss from this past season. Before I rewatched the footage I thought Sanchez was the [main] problem too. I don't now, there were so many other things wrong with the offense. Time will tell us.

When you picture the way that a car works do you see chimpanzees wearing fez's pedaling electricity-generating bicycles under the hood by any chance?

Have not had the time to read up any details on the extension. Anyone know if it makes Sanchez more cap friendly to cut after this year then previously?

Honestly last season i was ready to throw in the metaphorical towel on Sanchez if
there wasn't vast performance improvement over the 2010 season.

Sadly you cant really judge Sanchez based on last season if you actually watched the game. The kid barely had a chance to breath let alone perform.

I wish we could vote people off of this board. Lol, some of the shit posters who've come on here over the past 6 months should have their Internet access blocked. I could actually understand why people would want Manning. But now people are wanting to sign Jacobs and Henne. AYFKM
