I don't have anything against this move for several reasons: 1) We have won games with Sanchez and not just thanks to our D (actually, we went out of the play-offs both times because our D failed). 2) I think Schotty's Offense was just too much for a guy with 1 true year of college experience. 3) With this move if all goes well we have our franchise QB for around 11 to 13 mill per year. If it goes wrong we'll be able to get rid of him after 2 years starting from now. Is it a bold move? Yes. I would've preferred they made this move after one year of him playing in Sparano's O. But I think it will work out well when it's all said and done.
Help me out here... Sanchez is guaranteed no money after 2013. So let's say we cut him before the 2014 season, how does it affect the cap? Is it just his base salary that counts against the cap?

Yeah I don't see a downside even if you dislike Sanchez. We free up space to improve the team in other areas because Peyton no thank you to NY. If Sanchez turns out to be a bust, then we can cut him after two years with minimal impact on the cap. If Sanchez turns out to be good, we have a good QB on the cheap and were able to create room to build the team. Don't see a downside here. We made the playoffs with Sanchez before, so not sure why people think we can't again.
This is a lot to take in this early in the morning, with much to consider about the direction of the next two years. I say two years simply because that is the time the Jets have given Mark to prove he belongs under center for the NYJets. I personally am still unsure how this scenario will play out. Will the kid step up, grow up and become the QB that his athletic abilities would allow him to be? As many of you know by now it was never physical with Mark, it was all mental. I think that the Jets are much at fault here for this by handing Mark everything on a silver platter. The kid has never had to earn a damn thing from day one ! An if you ask me, this has hurt his development, because it really has spoiled him. I certainly expected him to get his fourth year to see if at last he could put it all together. Yet once again, the Jets have made it clear, it Mark falters there will be no option but to ride it out. This will allow Mark to always know he can get away with what ever he pleases with little ramifications to his starting role or pay check. I was hoping for a true competition this season that would drive Mark to improve or sit. It is clear that is not going to happen and the Jets dare not bring in anyone who could threaten to dethrone Mark for fear of what it would do to both him and the statement it would make to the rest of the players. So this old fan hopes the kid steps up, but my SOJ side is growing darker by the day as I see the approach and the direction this team is going in....
I think this an excellent move, committed to your young QB, I like the fact that MS is talking to Chad about TS offensive system. Now if we can strengthen the pass rush and the RT position I would be happy with the state of the team for this year. Hope fully we can add some depth to the team.

You guys have to remember its been super bowl or bust since day 1. How many rookie QBs are expected to win it all? NONE. Look at Andrew Luck, his expectations next season are 3-13. Sanchez's were to win it all. Thats brutal. Luck wont feel pressure for at least the next 2-3 years. Sanchez has been under the microscope since day 1 and I feel like hes done a good job. Guys like Stafford, Freeman, Matt Ryan never have had to deal with this pressure until about last year. And how did they all respond? not a single playoff game was won by any of them. Enough said. Give him a break, even Peyton Manning went 6-10 in his 3rd year after coming off a 13-3 season.
You mean like Rothlesberger and his first SB, or John Elway when he depended on Terrell Davis, or Trent Dilfer, or Troy Aikman relying on emmit smith and the Great cowboy defense......you are right MS should be ashamed to win a SB that way.
The first time Peyton Manning ever threw a pass in an NFL playoff game it resulted in a humiliating 41-0 defeat to......the NY Football Jets. The LAST time Manning threw a pass of any kind it was in defeat to the Mark Sanchez lead NY Jets, again, in an NFL playoff game. And in between there was the....you guessed it, Mark Sanchez lead NY Jets that ended any talk of the 14-0 Colts going undefeated. There is NO team Manning hates more than the Jets. And for gooood reasons. He was NEVER coming here.
Excellent move by Tannenbaum. This franchise is heading in the right direction for once. Sanchez is the future here.

Exactly. I think it's the difference between people who play too much Madden and those who at least understand football is a business. To me, this is a win/win/win for Jets: 1. Jets get (reportedly) anywhere from 5-7 million in cap relief this year, which is good, have major needs and don't want to waste the prime years of Mangold, Revis, Harris. 2. If Sanchez struggles in Sparano's offence, you cut him after next year. He was going to see through the next two years anyways, so you essentially got the cap relief anyways. Plus, Sparano must be confident he can work with Mark, otherwise, not sure this gets done and Rex and Tanny are now all-in on Sanchez. He must succeed or they likely don't see next off season. 3. If Sparano helps turn Sanchez around, then he's a reasonable deal as he hits his prime. I'm not the biggest Sanchez fan in the world, but the Jets are my team so I want to see him succeed. By all accounts, the physical tools are all there, it's the mental thing. And by all accounts, Schotty's offence was crazy complicated especially for a (relatively) inexperienced QB.
Yup. Add to that the biggest media market in America and an in-stadium rival who'd recently won the SB. Plus the management got a bit arrogant with their moves since overachieving to go to AFCCG three years ago and it was Mark who paid. And then add to that an OC whose QBs in the past have had career years AFTER they got away from him and there's no way to know how good Mark really is. I think this is the year we either see him take the step, or he confirms what the haters think. I have no idea either way and won't be surprised, I'm just glad we finally get to find out what the Jets have in Mark.
