Sanchez's cap number for 2012 is being toggled. But it will be much lower than the 14.25 million it previously was.

    Bingo...

Methinks it frees up more cap space this year to resign Pouha and add someone good in FA. Methinks.

Extension makes Sanchez 6th or 7th highest paid QB

Could make the Sanchez haters angry but as Harpua said it, by the time this will have an effect, the total cap will be higher so it'd give the Jets more breathing room.

Plus, Sanchez haters remember, it gives them MUCH more cap room, THIS year, to make the team better in a year they truly need it, because of the long term deals they got into last year.

Still ridiculously overpaid. I don't think Sanchez even tops out as a top 7 QB. I understand the move is to make cap room for this coming season, but I fear this might be too shortsighted...

He could reach that tier with an actual RT....I don't think he is the 7th best QB though too but its good to get Sanchez down if in the event he will get better(He should)

Brees AND Peyton will get such crazy deals....especially Brees. Not to say Sanchez is near either one but the dollar for QBs gets higher and higher each year.

Yes. Smart move all around it seems. Lets see if Sanchez has hit his peak or will keep on improving

You gotta look at the long term of it. By the time this "7th highest paid" contract will be hitting the end, other QB's salaries will be coming upwards as well as the cap will be much higher. That big end of the extension will most likely be middle of the road QB money in 5 years and the cap hit will not kill us.

this disappoints me as i look forward to the day mark sanchez leaves almost as much as i looked forward to herm edwards leaving....

this probably puts that off for some time. its always good to save cap space this year but never good to pay for it later... cap rise or not. time will tell exactly how much this ends up helping or hurting the team.

Mark Sanchez is going to win this team a Super Bowl. I'll be just as shocked as the next guy when it happens, but it will.

If this frees up more CAP space, then I can live with it...if the Jets think that Sanchez can be an elite QB, then I have problems with it.
