Ok the numbers are out and I'm more confused now. 13.5 per year, with 27 guaranteed? What exactly was the point of this and why did this happen now?

For cap relief? How much did they save?

    I'm not hating, just curious.

Great news! Can't wait to see what Tanny does with the caproom saved from Brick and Sanchez's restructurings.

Manning is meeting only with 3 teams from now til Tuesday when he signs...

    Broncos/Cards/Dolphins...

And it looks like the Jets feigned interest in Manning to get some leverage with Sanchez (your GM is pretty smart).

I've completely given up hope of the Jets ever winning with Mike Tannenbaum as the GM. He half asses rebuilds, goes for flashy moves over smart ones, and apparently thinks the world of a replacement-level quarterback.

    Rich Cimini ‏ @RichCimini

Numbers on Sanchez contract: 5 yrs/$58.25M, plus $10M in escalators. It includes $20.5M in gtd money and $40.5M in "new" money. #Jets

So to sum this up, he avoids the flashy short term move at QB for a longer term, smaller dollar investment at QB, and you bash him for always making the flashy move? Wonderful logic there.

    I believe escalators mean incentives.

Yep, here comes the needed cap space. Sanchez gets security for the future, we get to push cap hit back to the years when the cap should be going up in large ammounts. Win/win deal for both sides.

    EXCELLENT MOVE.

Some may panic about this officially not testing Sanchez but bring in a backup ala Quinn/Campbell and have them around to keep Sanchez on his feet.

Great to show patience in Sanchez. If you can give him a worthwhile RT, he can produce.

Pouha should be resigned and we could do something else along with it.

Agreed and we still have a pretty good QB when all is said and done.

Not only that if Sanchez can actually prove himself to be just an above average QB that deal also looks like a bargain. Great move all around. Can't wait to see what his cap number is for 2012.

Its good for this season if the rumors that his 2012 cap number is signifigantly lower. As for the future, if the cap number goes up as projected this deal should not hurt us too bad. Seeign as we have no easy way to repalce Mark this season its a great deal for both sides.
