Posting an impressive 40 time at the combine, Lamichael James is more like a steal in the second round. Assuming we use our #16 pick to draft Melvin Ingram, Courtney Upshaw, etc. and James falls to us at #47 do you pull the trigger? Could he be the speedy change of pace we're looking for to compliment Shonn Greene's downhill running?

Some on this site would have you believe a RB is not important. I wouldnt mind James, but we have too many holes to draft yet another RB (I would like to see what we have in Powell and McKnight before I draft another RB). That being said, I would be all infor Mike Freaking Tolbert! Guy is polished and can step right in, something a rookie wont likley do.

He is not a steal in the 2nd. Only RB we should choose in the 2nd is Doug Martin, kid is a beast, next Ray Rice.

BTW, this should be in the draft section.

I've read a couple of different times that James falls down at first contact, and even seems to shy away from contact at times. Not sure how true it is since I don't watch many Oregon games, but not exactly the type of RB you want, even as a speed back.

Drafting a change of pace back in middle of the second round seems like a reach to me, especially when we already have McKnight. James doesn't seem like the type of RB that would cause the team to overlook other, more pressing needs.

I don't care if its the seventh round, I don't want James. I think he is a great college player, but he isn't an NFL back, and we don't need to waste another pick on another RB that will fail in the NFL. Jets did that with McKnight, and Powell is even worse.

I really don't want to see us wasting early picks on RBs and WRs. We have bigger needs. Get us a nice pass rusher and a safety first. I guess we'll have to see what the FA brings. I can't wait for the free agency to start.

I wouldn't mind a RB in the 2nd round, but he'd have to be more versatile and just flat out better then James.

If they draft a running back at all, it has to be a difference maker and have to be someone other teams have to really gameplan for. We dont need another rotational back who can get a few good carries a game

You're telling me LJ is not a difference maker? Wasn't he averaging like 10 yards a carry at one point last season. That is ridiculous. It's not like Oregon plays scrubs either.

He is a situational player at best. He is versatile, but he's not a guy who strikes me as being a good back for power football

    Laxinx,

I am right there with you on this one, give me an O lineman or OLB in the first and Martin in the second and I will be

Since the 08 draft the following RBs have been selected in the 2nd round: Ray Rice, Matt Forte, LeSean McCoy, Ben Tate, and DeMarco Murray.

The bottom line is the 2nd round has been a gold mine for RB prospects. Especially when the 1st rounds have been filled with names like Ingram, Spiller, Moreno, D. Brown, F. Jones, and J. Stewart.

Hard to believe that Tony sees SG as the feature back in our ground and pound. We need a change of pace from SG for this approach to be a success. Doug Martin in the second would be a great pick. As could David Wilson.

I'd prefer Doug Martin but I can see us getting a rb in round 2. He was a beast at Oregon I think he has a real shot in the NFL

  16. James is a tough guy to project. He doesn't have the frame to take alot of punishment from NFL defenders..however..he is so quick to the hole and in his cuts that perhaps he avoids alot of head on collisions which allows him to be an effective full time player. The problem is..it's hard to project quickness/elusiveness until a guy gets into a specific blocking scheme.

Agreed. this guy is going to be a good mid 2nd pick for whoever lands him.

Isn't Llamar Miller coming out this year? Hes solid as well IMO.

Miller is in the draft, and will probably be taken in the 2nd round

Yes Miller is. He’s my number 3 back, but I could see him going ahead of Martin because he is more explosive.

He’s an early to mid 2nd round pick

Well that fine by me, let Miller go first so we can have Martin fall right into our laps....
