The D and run game were bad at Pitt and sanchez brought us back in that game and gave us a chance. Sanchez hasn't played a bad postseason game yet. The Jets scored over 20 in 3 of their 6 playoff games. The Jets averaged 21 PPG in their 3 playoff games in 2010, the Giants averaged 21 in their SB run in 2007. In 2011 the Giants got TWO TOs deep in SF territory- name me the playoff game that happened for Sanchez? and NYG scored 17 in regulation in that game. GB scored 14 pts on offense in the 2010 title game and won The Steelers scored 16 pts on O in the 2008 title game and won
If Sanchez had not sucked in the stretch run this past season, with the season on the line, and in his third year, the Jets would not be interested in Manning. SInce that is what happened, they are. You don't double down on your "plan" when it is not working.
I appreciate your loyalty to the jets and their players, and I agree to a degree. Mark has more playoff wins in the past 3 years then any other QB in the nfl (fact), also he's much better then Eli at equal points in their career (fact), and his td to into ratio has gotten better every year (fact). I see this and recognize it but please look at it this way: The Pats made it to the Super Bowl (didnt win it of course becase history has shown us that Bill cant win it without cheating) this year with statistically the 2nd worst defense in the NFL, and only one good WR who can't even break 6 feet (I recognize they have good TEs patsfan) why did this happen. Its because the Pats have a top five QB in the NFL. Unfortunately with these new rules the NFL has where defenses must play flag football, offensives can dominate, and you need a top QB to do this. The Jets are built to win now, just imagine what they could do with a top 5 defense, an o-line that's a RT away from being the best in the NFL, a super bowl MVP WR whos not way past his prime, and it all being lead by a QB that was, is, and always will be better then Tom Brady. If we learned anything from the pats last season it's that as long as you have a good QB the rest of your team can be total worthless shit and you can still make the Super Bowl. The Jets immediately become favorites to win the super bowl with manning based off this concept because the rest of the team is in the top percentage of the NFL.
Great post. In the playoffs, you are often playing against teams that have high quality offenses. Sometimes, in this league, the rules and officiating being what it is, those offenses will light up the scoreboard, even against relatively strong defensive teams. You have to have a Qb who can carry the team to win those games. That would not be Mark Sanchez.
I don't think Manning will choose the Jets, and while I fully support Sanchez, I understand the Jets pursuit of Manning. More than anything else, I think the Jets FO is playing defense, and at least trying to drive Manning's price tag up. Schefter just tweeted that Manning prefers to stay in the AFC, but is open to playing in the NFC. I'm sure not having to go Brother vs Brother in the playoffs every year unless it's the SuperBowl factors into that. Say Manning & Wayne go as a package to Houston or KC, they'd be virtual playoff locks & more competition in our quest for a SuperBowl. If Manning & Wayne go to Miami, we're probably the 3rd team in our division. Our interest may be just as much about making sure Miami doesn't sign him as it is trying to upgrade our roster. That being said, it could also strictly be proper due diligence to gauge Mark's value around the league. If he fails to land Manning or RG3, would a guy like Snyder get desperate & offer a 2 & a 4 or a swap of firsts for Sanchez? If Mark has some trade value, and if a Manning for Sanchez swap could be relatively cap neutral it could be a worthy gamble.
Does 'stinger' ring a bell for ya? That goes to the OL by the way. Love him or hate him, but when Al Davis said "The Quaterback must go down; and he must go down HARD" he was speaking the universal truth about NFL, and Sanchez is no exception.
If Manning is still Manning, it would be extremely difficult to pass up. However, there is no guarantee. He's coming back from a major injury and is up there in age. That's my biggest reservation about this right now.
The difference between the Jets and the Giants is they have a franchise caliber QB, an outstanding HC and have drafted very well. When they are healthy they are match up hell for almost every team in the league. The Giants were on the cusp of failing because they weren't healthy, the Jets on the other hand dumped both of their cover safties 2 years in a row and haven't gotten much out of the draft the last few years.
If Manning is healthy he won't choose the Jets. if he's not there's no way he won't wind up here. The word that's circulating right now is that Manning does not want to do workouts for teams at the moment. He's exploring all his options and will make decisions on individual workouts when he has fully gauged the market for his services. Obviously he's not interested in having teams see him at full throttle at this point for some reason. Otherwise he'd just do a Pro Day type event, let everybody come and see for themselves and then let the bidding war begin.
We have a franchise caliber QB and an outstanding HC. That "outstanding" Giants HC was nearly fired in '07 and '11, fans once complained about Eli the way they do about sanchez and it was just one short year ago where Eli threw 25 INTs. Let's not forget that PLUS the Giants were only 9-7 this year. To act like you have Montana and walsh now is kind of funny.
The jury is out on both of these. Sanchez didn't have a particularly good season last year in the absence of real support and Rex had about as bad a season as a head coach can have. He had about as good a season as a defensive coordinator can have and that's what kept him from getting axed at the end in my opinion. Right now the Jets have a franchise prospect QB and an outstanding DC. Let's see if both of them can step it up to the next level next season.
None of us are doctors (IM assuming) so if the Jets sign Manning he must be healthy. I've read that his neck is at boo greater risk for reinjury than any other individual.
I think they should ask Sanchez for his opinion on possibly bringing in Manning. And if Sanchez's reply is anything short of "OMG that's a great plan, it will give me time to fully develop under a legend and take the helm 3 years down the road to continue the great Superbowl legacy Peyton has started for the green and white...." he's an idiot and they should cut him on the spot!
Sanchez wasn't really good but our OL stunk, the run game stunk for half a year and the D/WRs were mediocre. In 3 years he helped us get to 2 title games, in 3 years rex led us to 2 title games. It's hard to win in this league and we know we can win big w/ both of them who are both still babies in this league in their current roles.
This is something I'm thinking about. The Jets have some very good players but how long can they play at such a level? I'm picturing a scenario down the road where Sanchez puts it all together but the rest of the roster has downgraded due to age. Just looking at one player: In Sanchez rookie & 2nd year Bart Scott was very good. In Sanchez 3rd year, Bart Scott is a LB who can't play on passing downsl. In Sanchez 4th year, Scott's reason for being on the team is because of his salary guarantees. Mangold, Revis, Harris are @ the top of their game but the clock is always ticking on the career of football players.
The ticking on Mangold's clock has become deafening lately. Back issues and now a high ankle sprain. He's probably not going to be playing at a high level much past 30.
I know something about pinched nerves. They don't make people run into the end zone when they are looking at the pass rush and get tackled for a safety.
While I agree, a lot of people are a bit too harsh on Sanchez, I think unless your a team with an elite QB, you have to at least inquire about a guy who is arguably the best QB in the game... maybe even all time. While Sanchez hasn't had a bad playoff game really, his play might not even get us to the playoffs anymore in today's NFL. If his feelings get hurt, then he wasn't mentally tought enough to win us a superbowl anyway.
