WOW. Comparing Aaron Maybin to Aldon Smith is just wrong. Just because the 49ers were smart and eased his way into the NFL, for a player that is still a little raw, and played him on passing downs does not mean he is terrible at the run. I wish we had the luxury where we could draft a player in the top 10 at OLB and let him develop the right way by easing him in while still having a quality starter. BTW, what do you think the Giants did with JPP? Exactly this. Please think again before posting.
How about we compliment what we have and build around Revis, David H, Wilkserson, and Wilson, rather then trade our young star CB? Depth can be rebuilt.
With a salary cap of $130M and 52 players, the avg pay is $2.5M per year, per player. So, for every 'Revis' making $15m per year, you have 8.3 players suddenly playing for less than $1M per year. So here's your options: 9 good players playing for $2.5M per year or 1 great player playing for $15M per year and 8 scrubs playing for jack shit.
How about we just trade Cromartie for a 2nd Its less retarded, more realistic, and still frees up cap. As a matter of fact that could be the solution to our cap problems this year
We already have the best cornerback, arguably the best defensive player in football. Where are you planning to find 9 good players for under $2.5 million?
too much tied into 1 player especially at that position.....we have the worst talent in AFCE at this time IMO.....id be trading the man.
Smith can't stop the run, simple as that. We need a 3 down OLB, especially if we are trading Revis (I hate even typing that phrase out, such a dumb topic).
Maybe he'll someday be good against the run but do you wanna gamble on that? He didnt win DRotY because he couldn't play the run, Miller could.
Trading Revis is moronic. Is there really anything else to say? Is this really a thread for anything other than comedic purposes? This is why fans aren't in charge of teams.
Not really. 2 1st rounders + 1 2nd rounder this year + 2 1st rounders for the next two years for Revis would not be too moronic. And if any franchise makes that offer, they will be so fucked that the picks are guaranteed to be within top 5-10 range for the next two years as well. *C'mon, Browns! Pull the trigger and get that beastly secondary! Revis and Berry will OWN the backfield! God damn it!!*
Any team that makes that offer would be fucked, but not in the immediate future. I mean how long does it usually take for draft picks to develop. How fucked would we be without Kyle Wilson, Vlad Ducasse, Wilkerson and K Ellis ? top-10 range? I think not. Plus the boost to having Revis would be pretty huge in the immediate future as well.. That said I would likely trade Revis + 2 4ths for two 1sts and 3 2nds I think realistically thats the most you could get, and even that would be a bit of a stretch since hes only a corner.
Im not saying I would do this trade, never did. I just thought your comparison of Aldon Smith, who showed he could wreak havoc on an offense, to Aaron Maybin was very inaccurate. The part you are not getting is the fact that just because he isnt in on 1st down doesnt mean he cant play the run. They have a very good run defender in front of him and want to ease his transition (similar to the way the Giants did with JPP- they had Osi in front of him on the depth chart, and put him in on passing downs) so they can optimize his play. Just the fact that you compared someone with Aldon Smith’s talent to Aaron Maybin (who is 220 which is why he cant play the run) is wrong . And even if he doesnt turn into a great run defender, he still is light years past any passrusher we have on this team (which is the major weakness), and he’s a rookie.
I dont think we would see a trade offer like that... And if we did, we better sign of on it before they realize what they just did. BTW, I think you meant Joe Haden
