I under stand you lovew for his talent, but he is just not a fit with our current locker room situation. We need more leader types, not more people that need led or reigned in. Maybe the ravens can get away with it having Reed adn Lewis there, but we seem to lack those types of vets.

Oh I realize that, he could definitely be a liability, although i think some of his off the field actions are a bit overplayed and really not as extreme as rumored. His on the field actions are off, very off, but god if this kid could just focus that into playng even harder hed be a huge name in the NFL. I dont think its a bad idea to give this kid a chance, personally i believe he can be a pro bowler sooner rather than later.

Obviously my hopes for him are high, and maybe a bit bias but like i said prior, i think he will become that player teams will regret skipping over in the draft in a few years.

Houston was a great value in the 3rd. I was really hoping he would drop to our 3rd...

But IMO, I would rather have a guy who has somewhat of a drug problem than a guy who has a mental problem. Like Harpua said, I dont think our locker room at this point in time is the best situation for a guy like Burfict.

I think once the 3rd or 4th round comes around, his talent outweighs the risk. But in the 2nd, with all of the holes we have, I dont think we have the depth to take a risk on a player who can be out of the league in a year because of his mental status.

Also, FWIW, I read that Burfict’s teammate had to tell him where he had to line up pre snap and what the play was. That was last year when he had a great year and then this year he got injured and didnt play which couldve caused Burfict to have a poor year... Im not sure if this is a well known thing so I was just pointing it out.

Mental problems and Drug problems go hand and hand. Both are clearly bad and will cause concern/drop you stock but both can be fixed with time, thats where the upside comes in. If ability can overcome the problem, the reward outweights the risk tremendously, and thats what Burfict can possess.

We also need a replacement for Scott, and if we fill some needs in free agency we could very well go Burfuct and rotate him and Scott, then release Bart next year. Id even suggest maybe trading down a bit from 47 if we really feel he will continue to drop, pick up an extra draft choice, and get Vontaze.

I understand many wont agree with me and Vontaze's rap certainly doesnt help my case but i truly believe he will overcome what ever effects him and become one of the better ILBs in the league. But obviously nobody can no for sure until a few years from now.

Burfict does not have talent. He made a few big hits and everyone thought he was the next big thing because he played "violently". Whenever I've seen Burfict play, he always misreads plays and gets tackles by tackling guys who his teammates have already slowed down. The fullback from USC absolutely burned him on a route in the USC-ASU game. A fullback...

And lol at those defending Vilma. Vilma is over-aggressive, gets tackles by jumping on piles, and gets plowed back by linemen. He would be terrible in the 3-4. I've never seen a linebacker get raped the way he got raped in the Saints-49ers games.

this. Burfict is a big hit/cheap shot kind of player. He's not a young ray lewis, if we were looking for one of those then a player like Jon Beason would be our target. And if we're taking a shot on a once highly touted on who has fallen mightily, I'd want Travis Lewis. Very similar story minus the crazy.

Haven't we learned our lesson from Gholston yet?

DO NOT TOUCH ANY PLAYER WITH MENTAL PROBLEM, WHATEVER THE PROBLEM IS.

(Stupidity is one of the prime evils you should stay away from, and Burfict seems to possess it abundantly. PASS!)

    seriously? Seriously?

How are these comparable situations? In what way is gholston like Burfict?

Gholston wasnt a mental case. He didnt love the game, but it wasnt overtly apparent before hand that he would be this useless.

Burfict doesnt have that problem. He might be a nutcase, but he no one questions his passion for the game.

I like Burflict a lot and I think he would bring an attitude our defense is missing. Guys like Harris and Revis are great players but they are not vocal high energy guys. Burflict plays with a ton of energy and emotion. I think he would be great next to Harris and I think guys like Harris and Revis could teach him a thing or two about playing slighlty more controlled and other guys can feed off the energy that Burflict brings so I think he would be a good fit.

I have learned to value the wisdom of John Wooden, the UCLA great.

By now, I look for 4 things from any prospect. He should be:

    1. Big
    2. Fast
    3. Smart
    4. With right mental aptitude.

Burfict seems to fail hard on #3, and to some what extent on #4. I'd say pass.

I think he really only passes at number 1. He is not fast right now either, maybe he will get his ass in shape before running the 40 at his pro day.

So he's worse than Gholston then.

If Burfict is still around in the 3rd I might take him, depending on who else has fallen, and if he's there in the 4th I'd definitely do it. to me he's worth a 3rd or 4th round gamble on a player who, until 2 weeks or so ago was considered by many a first round talent, minimal risk at that point, big potential payoff.

As for the cheap shot artist, maybe but I like two things in my Defensive linemen and inside linebackers, I like them mean and I like them a bit crazy. I don't mind an occasional penalty for a big hit or late hit, yes it may set you back 15 yards occasionally, but every time a reciever goes over the middle or a running back into the flat, that is going to be in the back of their minds. I'd take a chance on him, but not in the first or second round.

I would go with Ingram in this first, Martin in the second, and Burfict in the 3rd. That being said will these players last that long? I think that would be a really good first 3 rounds though. People might think I am crazy but this D would be stacked, if you could get Braylon back and he is healthy, sign a safety like Landry if healthy and some O line depth that would be pretty good to me.

    Ingram/Upshaw/Hightower with 1st

    Martin/Barron with 2nd

    Burfict with 3rd

I think I can live with that.

**insert picture with Burfict and Barkley**

This kind is the kind of meanness that I wish we had on our D. Someone that will put fear into the opponents, a trash talker that plays with some kind of emotion. People talked him up as Ray Lewis's replacement. I know the status of our locker room isn't the best at this point, but I'd like to think Rex could get the most out of a guy like that. With his issues and lack of motivation forcing him to slide down the draft, skipping out on him in the third would be a real mistake. Depending on how his pro-day goes, maybe even up to our mid second. Bart isn't getting any younger, we have to look for a replacement for him especially if we don't get Hightower (though I understand Dont'a is flexible in where he plays).

The problem with Burfict isn't just his attitude (where nothing is ever his fault), but that he isn't athletic and he isn't a good scheme player.
You can mask athleticism somewhat in the NFL with scheme if a player is smart and a hard worker. (the early 2000's Patriots LB are a great example)
Or you can make up for mediocre instincts and scheme awareness with superior athleticism. (Cro falls into this category)

Burficit has the problem that he isn't all that athletic, has poor instincts and scheme awareness, and has a rep as a bad teammate, un-coachable, has terrible discipline and never takes accountability. Literally the only thing good about him as a prospect is his size.
Given his lack of elite athleticism is it really worth it to take a chance on a guy with so much downside when his best case scenario is mediocre rotational MLB?
