Safety needs to be the priority. They don't necesarily need a pro bowler..just a safety who can cover half the field on 3rd down & in obvious situations.
Not sure if sarcasm or serious....? I would HATE this move. We have our obvious needs and I don't consider RB as high as S, T/G, NT, and backup QB.
I get stuck watching a lot of crappy Cowboys football, but one player that really stood out to me in 2011 was Laurent Robinson. He's a starter in backup's clothing. If he wasn't playing behind 2 very dynamic receivers in Austin and Bryant, he'd be a starter already. He's one of those guys that falls through the cracks. 6'2" and less than 200lbs, a burner with a long-stride and soft hands, although it's a mystery to me why he is likely playing for his fourth team in 2012 He's like Braylon without the baggage. I'd take Robinson in an instant. He made some very clutch catches in 2011.
I agree 100% I just think Robinison is gonna get paid and we probably won't be able to afford him, also I was under the impression that the draft is stocked with potential WR?
We dont need a safety that can cover half the field. because thats not what we do Revis and Cro are locked down on the outside n we say throw over the top and let them make the play are safetys are in the box ore playing man up on a tightend or slot. we need an athletic safety that can run with these hybrid tightends now you dont need a huge playmaker for that. would it be nice to have a probowl safety back there, no question. but is it realistic for us i dont think so. were either going to have to build through the draft or pick someone back up like dwight lowery who was very clutch for us in the 10-11 season.
I think that's exactly why Robinson won't get paid the way you're thinking. Deep WR draft, he's on his fourth team, there's just no market for him to get paid that way. He won't be as cheap as Braylon, but I think he'll be more reliable, outside of the run blocking aspect. Hell, maybe the Jets sign them both and skip WR in the draft. When they go four wide, Holmes and Kerley in slots, Bray and Robinson at SE and Flanker respectively. Plus a very healthy rotation. Not sure how I'd feel about that after the fact, but I don't see it as impossible.
Good point, I hope you're right, I think this kid is a serious talent and would take him on my team any day. I wouldn't want both but if all things are even I want Robinson.
They would have to pull the tag from Brees first before applying it again, if they can apply it again with the current rules. As for him not signing, its an exclusive rights tag, so if he does not sign then he is still thiersonly to negotiate with, but is not under contract and not required to attend OTA's, Camp ect. He can not be approached by another team with an offer. It could come to the point where he sits out the season, but I highly doubt that. More likely that they will continue to work on a longer term deal tat will be signed before camp begins.
Don't forget, his health is a huge part of the equation. They aren't going to sign him unless healthy. Cimini's a dumbass for not even mentioning him.
I would throw him a cheap a deal already and focus on other spots and see what money we have left to work with!! If we do not get edwards, would like to see colston or meecham. will cost too much so I think we should get edwards and hillis cheap and if possible go after Nicks or other OT or OG who will be cheaper and then go all D in draft!
