According to NFL Network the Jets are interested in signing game manager Jason Campell who will be a free agent on March 13th. I think this may end all the Manning talk :/
Campbell will not be a sure fire starter on any team. The best he can hope for is a chance to compete for the starting job, which he can do on the Jets. I'd still rather have Henne.
He won't be a surefire starter on any team, but there are plenty of teams that will give him a better shot than the Jets (I'm thinking Miami, Seattle, Jacksonville, Washington, maybe some others depending on how the draft goes.) For better or worse the Jets are sticking with Sanchez, so we'll have a tough time attracting someone as good as Campbell. We're more likely to end up with someone like Henne or Young.
My gut feeling tells me we sign Henne. He will be cheaper, plus Sparano is our OC. I think Campbell will be picked up by a team with a bigger cap like the Bucs or Cards.
Jason Campbell would be pretty good, though the costs could make that hard if others are interested as well. Garrard is probably the cheapest option for a QB with starting-experience.
I think Jason Campbell would be a great signing. It matches what this team wants to do. Not turn the ball over, which Campbell rarely does, he is a game manager in every sense of the word. He won't really wow us with big plays but that is why he is a back-up. We can then smother the opposition with defense and run the ball. His style of play fits the team bill. Whether he wants to come to ny is a different story, but i like the idea by Tanny and the front office.
its gonna be Henne. Makes too much sense not to be him. I don't want him to be our starter, but I think Henne is a great candidate to light a fire under Sanchez
Campbell is far better than Garrard, but I think Kyle Orton is better than Campbell. Why get Campbell if Orton is available?
Because the Jets don't want to be the 4th team to sign Orton, have him take the job for part of a season or more and then lose it and leave town after wasting the team's development cycle at the most important position on the field? Orton's been shown the door in Chicago, Denver and Kansas City already. What makes you think he'd come into the pressure cooker that is the Jets locker room and do any better? The thing to remember about Rich Gannon is that he flourished under Jon Gruden. Kurt Warner got the best years of Mike Martz before he became full of himself. Guys like Orton need a great coach to take them under their wing and bring out the talent. Sparano isn't one of those guys. If he was he'd still be in Miami making the playoffs with Chad Henne as his QB.
I’d much rather have Jason Campbell on our roster than Chad Henne. My gut tells me that the Jets are going to pursue Henne first. However, that doesn’t mean he’ll end up with the team. There’s a chance that Henne will sign somewhere else, and the Jets will wind up with Campbell. But as it stands, I see their priority being Henne first, and Campbell second.
Shown the door??? What is that supposed to mean? Orton left Chicago in the trade for Cutler, who basically forced Denver to trade him. I also think Cutler is better than Orton, but Cutler is not on the table, so the fact that Chicago went with Cutler HARDLY means he would not fit in NY. Shown the door??? He was traded, and Lovie Smith WANTED Orton back, with the trade being made by the Chicago FO. In Denver, Orton's contract was extended in 2010 through the 2011 season, however he got hurt toward the end of 2010, and was not one hundred percent at the start of 2011. He got Tebowed by Tebowmania, was waived in his contract year, but was immediately picked up by the Chiefs. And going back to the Chicago thing, are you aware Chicago also tried to get him back? But the Chiefs had the superior rights on the waiver wire, so they got him. Unfortunately Orton suffered a minor injury, but did return against the Packers, and led the Chiefs to a win over the then undefeated Pack. Oakland beat KC next week in overtime, but went on to beat Denver in the last game of the season, which was vindication for Orton. And of course Orton is now a free agent, so he was not by any means "shown the door" by KC. Are you really not aware of that or were you just trying to be provocative?
