I'd love to see Pennington brought in as QB coach. You can rag on his arm all you want, but he was probably the smartest QB we've ever had. Sanchez could learn a lot from him. http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/story/_/id/7639854/chad-pennington-aids-new-york-jets-mark-sanchez-new-offense Quarterback Mark Sanchez is learning the New York Jets' new offense from one of the Jets' old quarterbacks -- Chad Pennington. Sanchez met Pennington in South Florida recently for a crash course in Tony Sparano's offense, ESPNNewYork.com confirmed. Pennington brought an old Miami Dolphins playbook and began teaching the system and terminology to Sanchez. The two quarterbacks met more than once for classroom-type sessions. Sanchez reached out to Pennington because, under the new collective bargaining agreement, players aren't allowed to meet with their coaches and discuss football until April 16 -- the start of the offseason program. Sparano was hired Jan. 11 to replace offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. Instead of waiting around for three months, Sanchez took the initiative. Pennington, unceremoniously released by the Jets before the 2008 season, signed immediately with the Dolphins and directed Sparano's offense in 2008 and 2009. Pennington played brilliantly in 2008, leading Miami to the AFC East title. Pennington, 35, who worked last season as an NFL game analyst for FOX Sports, has a home in South Florida. He missed last season because of major knee surgery and is considering retirement after a career filled with several shoulder injuries. Interestingly, Pennington's former backup in Miami -- Chad Henne -- is on the Jets' free-agent radar, according to sources. The Jets are looking for a veteran to back up Sanchez. Obviously, Henne would be a fit because of familiarity with Sparano's system.
maybe penny can teach dirty how to throw a 10 yard rainbow!!!! jk. This is actually a real positive post. First, it shows sanchez reaching out in his 'off months' to try and get a leg up on the new offense and the new season. Second it shows penny as someone willing to take the time to help out another QB, which COULD someday lead to a spot on our coaching staff. Third, it means i might someday get to wear my penny jersey again!!!!
This is great news. If anyone says Sanchez isnt hardworking or determined to be great, than thats just BS. He is one of the hardest working players on the Jets and I really hope this pays off for him.
If only the Jets were on Hard Knocks again this year. (Overhead security cam shot of Rex or Tanny's office with them and a couple other guys sitting around with Mark) Tanny- We think it would be a great idea if you went over some playbook stuff with a guy like Chad Pennington in the offseason. It'll give you a chance to get a head start on the new playbook and talk to a really smart QB. Plus everyone in the press will love it and it'll show great initiative on your part for your PR. Rex- Yeah Mark that guy could really manage an offense and he knows the Jets and Sparano's offense inside and out. Boy is it gonna be great now that we've got this douchebag Schotty out of here finally har har har. Mark- Yeah guys that sounds great. Gonna be an awesome year next year! Heh...maybe I should give the kid more credit though.
I would have taken a chance with him, especially under Sparano. Hell, if Brooks Bolllinger can be Paul Chryst's QB coach at Pitt with 1 year year of high school level coaching, Chad can jump feet first into a NFL job.
What a lazy quarterback... Getting advice from Pennington cannot hurt. It was painful to watch him late in the game because he couldn't make certain throws, but man did he make great decisions and pick apart defenses when on.
Very good news. How is Penny's shoulder? For a little bit, I thought it would be a good idea to bring him in to push Sanchez, but if his shoulder is still bad, there is no shot of that. He would be a very good QB coach, though.
