Be careful what you wish for. Carey got kicked inside to RG. Plus he is an aging, declining player that might not even be a stopgap.
In most cases, this is true, but the problem is VD is already taking up that spot, and doing a good job of wasting it, so you need some dependability, even if of a mediocre sort, at backup tackle. Remember that Turner, assuming he's back, backs up the interior linemen and is not suitable at tackle. Given VD wasting a roster spot, imo adding another question mark in a younger unproven talent is too risky. The other point of course is despite what you said the Jets have already in effect guaranteed Hunter's contract as I understand it.
The roll of the dice that out of two mediocre and/or question mark players, one "has to" step up and succeed, gives me an eerie deja vu feeling. Isn't that the strategy Tanny followed when they let Kendall leave and "replaced" him with Clarke and Bender? Well whadya know, neither one stepped it up. They both sucked. And the two of them destroyed the Jets season that year.
I'm betting Mr. T is BSing, but I hope the Jets realize that starting Hunter next season is unacceptable. The first thing that needs to be addressed on O is that offensive line. I don't care if we upgrade at QB, RB, WR, etc if the line isn't fixed it won't mean dick.
So Vernon Carey sucks now? I remember two seasons ago he was touted as a better RT than Big Wood by Finatics.
