Bryan Thomas

Discussion in 'New York Jets' started by KurtTheJetsFan, Mar 1, 2012.

  1. There are rumblings that the team is considering re-signing him as he will reportedly be 100% by summer. I don't think it's a bad move. He's a very good strong side player on 1st & second down. I also think he'd make a good 5th linebacker/ST type moving forward.

Speaking of which, 10 years into his career...will Jet fans finally give this guy his due? Maybe he's not Ed Reed, or Shaun Ellis for that matter..but he's been a solid contributor basically his entire career. An explosive player? No. But a tough long time Jet who started several playoff contests in multiple schemes.

The year's I was able to attend Training camp he was always one of the nicest & classiest players. It's time Jet fans recognize Thomas as a true Jet.

If he's healthy that's great, but he's coming off a pretty tough injury for a guy his age in the trenches ...

Imagine if we DID take Ed Reed. We needed a safety and we drafted another DE a year after drafting Ellis and Abe. We made Ellis a gain weight and try to play DT after he recorded 10 1/2 sacks a rookie.

Oh yeah and no way can BT play special teams

If its for vet minimum, sure, if he wants more I say no.

  5. I don't think he'll command much more. Unless of course New England starts feeling cuckoo again.

Seeing our interest in Jarret Johnson, its a bad sign for BT.

However there are rumblings that the Jets are keeping BT in mind still.

I dont think he will either but you never know, many teams are desperate for run stoppers.

Compared with the Jets history of first round pick gaffes, BT is a lock for the Hall of Fame.

Sure as hell contributed way more than that tepid tub of lard known as Dslob.

With that said, Bryan Thomas >>>> Jarrett Johnson any day of the week.

Our run d suffered big time when he left. I don't mind if the jets want to move on but they can't stick with westerman or McIntyre at that position they need someone who can set the edge like Thomas could. Of course a little pass rush would be good from that position as well.

Bt, what he means to me

if we bring back BT as a stop gap then we will face the 2013 season haveing to replace 3 lbs (bt, and bart and pace after the are surely cut). 3/4 turnover is way too much for one offseason therefore we need to start grooming an olb now. if tanny doesnt draft one early this year that can be developed as a quality starter we are fucked.

BT has always been a decent player and I would love to see him back healthy at a low price. He is a true Jet. I don't know if that's a good thing though.

Id like him back not as a starter. Get a new starting OLB and have BT to rotate with him and Pace. Good LB to have on obvious running downs.

I would rather sign this Thomas for Vet min than Jarret Johnson who’s going to command a few mil.

The both serve the same purpose- set the edge in the run. And they both do it well. neither are good at rushing the passer so are only effective on 1st and 2nd down.

I would much rather sign Thomas to a 2 year incentive deal and draft and OLB in round 1 or 2 and let them rotate than overpay JJ.

I don't think $3/year would be overpaying for JJ but I do agree that I'd rather pay less for Thomas. It's just a bit scary coming off that injury. Who knows if it's going to hold up.

I see this type of post all the time on here and I always respond the same way. Making this move should not in any way prevent the Jets from drafting an OLB early. What it does is fill a hole and allow us to take BPA instead of reaching or trading up to fill a hole.

There's usually a FA you can sign as a stop gap. It would be nice to get a young guy in the draft this year if he's BPA, but if he's not we should be able to plug the hole. Who knows, maybe a young guy like Westerman or Maybin already on the roster will come into there own by the end of the year. That's probably doubtful, but I disagree that we're fucked if we don't draft an OLB this year. We're fucked if Tanny thinks that because it will likely result in him throwing more draft picks away to trade up.

I could never understand the hate for Thomas? The guy was pretty solid and I wouldn't mind having him around.
We still need an upgrade at LB though, for sure.

decent at best. do jets fans love him yes. Vet min then keep him if not its best to part ways. OLB are a different breed then they were 10 years ago. and he is not that breed.
