The last time the Jets lost a prominent coach who was inexplicably hired by somebody else right away they pulled off a trade-up with the coach's new team in the 1st round. This might be the Mike Tannenbaum plan for ultimate success: seed the NFL with his buddies and have them help him out with back page blockbuster deals.
well we do have sparano....the fantasy of RG 3 maybe isn't so far fetched. and of course these higher picks are not so financially constricting anymore. man.
The Rams have already made it known that they want a package similar to what it took the Giants to get Eli from San Diego. And, with as many as 4 legitimate teams in the running (Miami, Cleveland, Washington, maybe KC or Seattle), they can probably command that sort of price.
I think the Rams aren't going to get quite the Eli package but they might come close. Eli was the best QB in that draft and the best prospect at QB since his brother came out. RGIII is not that player this season, Andrew Luck is. I expect the Rams will either get the Browns 4 + 22 plus something else to make the deal look fatter than that or they'll get the Redskins 6 + 38 + 1st next season. The Rams want Blackmon out of this deal. They'll take the Browns offer even though it is not at a premium to stay close enough to the top to have a real chance at Blackmon. If they think Blackmon will still be there at 6 then the chances they make a deal with the Redskins go up because the overall value would be better in that deal if they get Blackmon either way on the early pick.
If the Jets trade up, it should be to get Matt Kalil. We don't need a QB, and I'm tired of everyone playing the sky is falling game with Sanchez. He should be staying. If Jets trade up and get a QB I'm going to be very disappointed. Drafting Kalil would be an instant fix for Hunter that could start, plus he's the best non QB in the draft.
If we trade up to draft Kalil I will throw my TV out of my window followed by computer. There should be NO reason at all to give up that much to fix the RT position. RTs normally arent drafted in the first round, let alone the top 10. We would have to give up Revis, or this years 1st, 2nd, 3rd and next years 1st or something of that nature to get to #2. If this happened, Tanny should be fired on the spot.
I see what you're saying, but he's still regarded the best non QB in the draft. QB is the last thing we need right now.
I really don't see that happening. Plus, Jerry isn't really calling the shots in the war room anymore, Stephen Jones is. Jerry would never have drafted a tackle in the first round.
I agree here. Romo's days are numbered. Ill go even farther by saying I prefer him over Sanchez or Manning for the Jets.
I think the only way the Jets make this trade is if it involves players. Cro and Holmes plus 2 picks or something of that nature.
The hate Romo gets nationally is ridiculous..... The guy is a borderline great to elite QB, sure he isn't winning the big games at this point, in part because of him, in part because of the defense and coaching, but to give up that ransom for RG3 when they've got a stud QB would just be stupid. As much as I like RG3, to automatically assume as an organization that he will become an upgrade over Romo is pretty irresponsible if ya ask me.
I can see the Jets tradin away their first and second rounders for the next two years, Brick, Revis, Mangold and Sanchez for RG3, going 0-16 next year and giving the Rams the first overall pick for next year ultimately making the Rams the SB champs for the following 2-3 years. What do you think? Should we do it?
Romo is a historic choker. He did have a decent year in 2011, injury notwithstanding, but he's not elite. The guy has one of the best receiving corps in football plus one of the best receiving TEs in football. The Cowboys always surround him with great receiving talent. I have watched every Cowboys game for the past 3 seasons and the guy is a drip. No fire, sulks on the sideline, and his hero is Brett Favre, and it shows. He will turn a busted play into a nice gain in the 2nd quarter and then throw the game away in the 4th. I was telling a friend of mine who is a Cowboys fan this season, if I could have Tony Romo in the first 3 quarters and Mark Sanchez in the 4th, it would be a guaranteed Super Bowl.
I really didn't think anything of these 2nd pick rumors/pipe-dreams until Revis was mentioned. We are basically in cap purgatory, and trading DR would not only ease our cap troubles, but it would bring back an infusion of young talent. I also agree that his value will never be higher than now. In regard to Shotty, I think it'd be far more likely that he would want someone like Keller to help his new QB, rather than acquiring his old QB. If the Rams decide they would rather use their ammo to rebuild NOW, then a revis/keller deal is not totally crazy. Here's a scenario that could be plausible under these circumstances, although very very very unlikely (obviously) Jets Get: -Craig Dahl (S) -1st round 2012 (2) -2nd round 2012 (34) (swap) -4th round 2012 (98) Rams Get: Revis Keller 2nd round 2012(48) (swap) Here, we save a ton on our cap hit, and would subsequently have 3 picks within the first 34 selections (think Kalil, Ingram/Upshaw, Fleener/whatever premier WR falls). We would also get a decent young safety with potential. The Rams would get the best CB in the game to help their atrocious secondary, and a safety blanket for their QB. They would still be able to pick in the 2nd and 3rd rounds in a very deep draft. Not saying I want to trade the Island, but it's definitely worth considering if you're Tanny. The value you get back for him might not be equal to his skill level right now, but combining young talent with cap space makes for an interesting proposition.
Agreed he's got the Favre gunslinger gene, but I believe unless you are in desperate need of a quarterback (Cleveland, Washington, Mia, Sea) there is no way you can mortgage your future for a QB, who in the cowboys case, may or may not be better than your current QB
