A game like last night makes everyone want a top goal scorer but if Nash is the only option it can't be done. That basically turns this season from the start of something long term with a young roster into a Stanley Cup or bust season.

If the Rangers want to make a push to win it all this year Rick Nash would be a big addition to the blueshirts.

Living in Columbus, I've seen Nash's career up close and he's an elite player on a lousy team. Nash reminds me of a younger Brendan Shanahan. Nash has averaged in the mid 30's in goals, career high 41 his second season, with below average players on his line. He's constantly the focus of opponents and doubled quite often.

Nash is the Captain of the Jackets, but is very quiet and doesn't take a leadership role.

He's a great player that is physical by using his strenght and leverage. Nash has a great shot and is very accurate. One issue, he doesn't make players around him better, Nash would benefit by playing with better players.

It's very clear Columbus wants to deal Nash, they haven't denied talking to teams. It's also clear Scott Howson isn't going to give Nash away unless the deal is adequate.

Columbus is going to develop younger players and understands that the future is with youth and players that over achieve.

Should have phoned it it....if they could score on the PP, there would be no Nash talk...we need Nik Lidstrom...

3 pts behind Wings with 3 games in hand, still 7 ahead of Devils with game in hand

I wouldn't expect him to, I did mention that he's not vocal and not a leader.

He's Capt in Columbus by default.

Nash's upside 6' 4" and he's only 27, no offense to Nash but we have the best Captain in the league...Cally!

I'm a Ranger fan and have been for years, long before I ever moved to C-Bus.

The Rangers need to make a move to energize their lackluster offense. Nash can only help, but he isn't going to come on the cheap. The Jackest want some very good young prospects.

The Rangers have to be in a win now mode, 18 years has gone by quickly.

Ugh, was I seriously 6 when the rangers won the cup?

Only team I root for that has won anything in my lifetime too. Fuck sports.

This x100. Maybe the Rangers aren't good enough to pull off the Cup this year (though I'm not giving up just because the Rangers aren't going to be in the top three in the power rankings come next Monday), but with the young core there's no reason to think they couldn't be right back in the mix competing for a Cup in any of the next few years. You get Nash, you're essentially giving up whatever Columbus stipulates and then another handful of guys to free agency after Nash handcuffs the salary cap.

It was said days ago and it's really all you need to know to realize this wouldn't be an intelligent move: 44% between four players on the roster. That's cap suicide.

ha, I was telling my buddy the other day that we have now gone as long without the cup as teh first go round.

We both started follwing the Rangers in 1976/77.....so we waited 18 years for the first one.

If you were 6 in 94 then youve pretty much seen nuttin. That sucks hahah

I started playing hockey the next year and eventually my dad acquired tapes of the series and most importantly game 7. I could have told you the whole game by heart before I became a teenager. It doesnt feel as long for me since it might as well have happened a few times a year for a good chunk of my childhood.

the team was flat last night but I give them a pass. 3 games in 4 nights coming up
Islanders fri., sabres-sat. and devils on monday. i'd like to see them get 5 out of the possible 6 points, or go on a nice 3 game winning streak to get sparked up again.
do you think Torts will play Henrik all 3 games?

My money is on Hank playing the first and third game with Biron playing against Buffalo. Torts seems to like playing Biron against the Sabres as it is.

I just read this on SB nation

What Columbus wants now is going to be more pricey than the package they'd ask for during the offseason, just based on desperation from the playoff teams to make the splash now. The "rumored" deal (that the Rangers have balked at) has Brandon Dubinsky, Ryan McDonagh/Michael Del Zotto, a top prospect like Chris Kreider and a first-round pick heading to Columbus. Dubinsky is a struggling third-liner making $4.2 million over the next four seasons, so he is certainly movable. But let's not forget he was the Rangers' best forward in their playoff series against the Capitals last year. And he is a key to New York's identity, can play in all situations and a veteran presence having played in the league for five full seasons now. The Rangers may not put in any fancy goals, but there's something to be said for a close-knit group whose total package seems to outweigh their individual pieces at this point. Losing Dubinsky could have an adverse affect in the locker room, and it will take time for Nash to learn the Rangers' system and all of its defensive responsibilities. Getting someone like him may be more beneficial in the offseason when he can start from square one.

That does seem like a lot to give up for Nash. And correct me If I am wrong, he's a rental player basicly?

He (Nash) would be the polar opposite of a rental. He'd be a long term sign. But even so, that's an insane amount of players for Nash. Three of which have already proven success in the pros.

I wouldn't make that deal for Nash, as good as he is. No way, this team has chemistry, youth in droves, and spirit, don't fuck that up, it's been an overwhelming season for me at least the way things are. Way too much to give up, fuck that.

Wow, the price is getting STEEPER?

I had no problem getting rid of Dubinsky ( because hes terrible) and the prospects and picks I was 'ok" with. My big problem of course was the crazy contract Nash has.

HOWEVER, the very mention of McDonaugh or Del Zotto makes this deal absolutely UNdoable. Fuuuuuuuuuck that!!!!!!!

That aside, we do need a goal scorer. End of discussion. And its a fine line we have to walk here.....we dont want to "mortgage" the future of course....way too much young talent and mojo on this team. HOWEVER, it would also be irresponsible to not do anything when we are so close to a cup. Its fuckin March guys....we have the best winning % in the fuckin NHL. We have the best goalie in the NHL. And we have teh best D corps 1-6 in teh fucking NHL. WE CAN WIN A CUP IN 3 MONTHS! These chances dont come around all the time. We need to improve because other teams, the Bostons, the Detroits et al, are going to get better.

I do not envy Sather at this point

We're a year ahead of schedule. You're right, Sather's in a very tough position. I think he'll stick to his guns and offer Dubinsky and non-roster prospects. No Stepan, McD or MDZ. Probably won't get it done, especially with the Kings being so desperate for offense.

If Nash comes here for the current package and plays really well, I wouldn't be surprised if they trade Gaborik after the season for a similar package to the one they'd give up for Nash. The cap space will be a problem, and that's not even taking into consideration that the cap might go down in the new CBA.
