Well, put on your dc hat....do you concede the mismatch ver current TEs of which NE has two.

Witha size sipped match at the Los offenses would have t think twice about releasing the TE, and leaving a pass rusher coming up the field.

Which safeties n the current roster are neutralizing Grnkowski and Hernandez now?

And of those, who is a better schematic mismatch when the TE releases....to be grabbed by a LB

I'm not sure what the answer is at safety. Safties as a whole right now are struggling with covering TE's.

Safeties are having mismatch problems because basketball small forwards and power forwards are being used at tight end. The answer has to be to go get small forwards to play strong safety. Like it or not the safety position must evolve to handle the height differential.

The strong safety of tomorrow is going to be 6'4" and 240 lbs or better. There's no other way to manage this problem.

There's the option of drafting Mark Barron, didn't we just watch Bernard Pollard hold his own against Gronk/Hernandez? I think he's a FA. Also drafting C Upshaw is akin to adressing their TEs because we've seen pocket disruption be NEs kryptonite time and again. The two biggest needs on D are OLB and S, adressing either of them will help in the two TE matchup. I never said it wasn't a need, but moving Maybin to Safety is just wrong.

Aaron Maybin is never going to play safety in the NFL.

I get not going after Williams due to being financially limited, but damn I miss having a bigtime pass rusher.

Who said Maybin was a candidate for safety or is this just your thought? This will never happen. Barron would be nice!

I figured we didn't have the cap for Williams, my fear is the Patriots picking him up due to their cap space and their needs on defense.

We should really be working on some type of superior hybrid to create a new breed of safety that can cover the modern TE. Perhaps a cross-breed between a cheetah (Usain Bolt) and a silverback gorilla (Mike Tyson) would get us a 6'4" 250 lb safety who can run like the wind and hit like a felon being assaulted the first time in the shower? I realize the whole male/male thing creates a mating challenge, but these sorts of things can be figured out in the lab. GET IT DONE TANNY!

Hobbes has been campaigining for Maybin at safety since like november.

The same reason Maybin has to run in circles after failing to use any seperation moves to get to the qb is the same reason this idea is laughable.

Maybin has robot hips. The guy couldn't be any stiffer during movement unless he took viagra. He can't cover at OLB why would he do it at safety?

Because he couldn't cover a book report.

Just cause the guy has a sizeable frame and runs quick in a straight line doesn't mean he can read route trees or keep up with people who've been running route s their whole life. Regardless of whatever hypothetical size/speed ratio people want to fantasize about.

The jets would be better off finding real pass rushers to augment their talent at cb and establishing depth of run stoppers in the front 7.

We haven't had a good cover safety. That doesn't mean we need to think of some frankenstein scenario.

I'm fully on the "2ND rate" side of the discussion. Tannenbaum shows me only that he wants big names and therefore headlines, which may or may not be Woody's choice and direction, with little to no ability to develop players.

I agree with most of that, but Maybin was using separation moves as the season progressed.

we need to stop chasing big names, yes we need a pass rusher but why can't we ever draft one? The last big time pass rusher we drafted was in 2000.

Because they are hard to identify in the draft.

I'm sure the Jets thought they had a pass rusher for the next 10 years when they drafted Gholston.
