Barron is the 9th overall prospect rated by Pro Football Weekly. Give me one of the Alabama guys. Richardson, I trade up for. Upshaw or Barron at 16 is fine with me. I also like Ingram from South Carolina
Barron has a sport's hernia and isn't worth a mid 1st round pick, PFW is way off base. So lets' move on from anointing Barron as a mid round 1 value.
Barron is, and should not be, rated that high most anywhere else. Several sites put him as a late first round grade. I think that is way to high for a saftey that by all accounts is good in the box, but not a great, but ok coverage guy. If the Jets take him at 16 I think its a horrible move. Any mock wiht him there becomes instant shit IMO.
Just the facts, Barron is rated #9 overall by PFW, #13 by Scout's Inc. #19 by Kiper, #15 by the National Football Post,#11 by Draft Countdown, #17 by Rob Rang. Point is, if Barron lands at #16, that's where he shold be according to these draft "experts".
Can opinions be posted as "just facts"? Where's Philosoraptor when you need him? Probably hanging out with Raptor Jesus and Ryan Mathews...
Just some "facts" CBS has him at 30, 30 at sideline scouting, 25 at NFL draft geek, 25 on Walter football, 27 on footballs future, 22 at draft tek. Despite Buntings 15 rating at NFP, he has him at 27 in his latest Mock. Draft Countdown is crap and has been for years. If you don't agree, post something against what Scott says and watch the trolls pounce. Kiper is one of the better ones you list here and one of the lower scores.
I didn't post anything about mock drafts. The thought was where does he rate as an overall prospect. My post proves that if he was picked at #16, that where his value is. Maybe he gets picked at 12 maybe gets picked at 20. He's not getting picked at 50.
Keep in mind he is hurt. His value wasn't high even prior to that and was extremely overrated because of the lack of safeties in this draft. So his stock is way off now. If he got picked at 50 or around there i wouldnt be surprised at all.
^ This several times over. His "value" is based off the opinions of a few draft experts, that are so expert they are not employed to help teams draft players. So of them having him in or near the top ten I find just laughable. The kidd is good, not great. There is not one thing thats overly special about his game. He's most likely going to be a good NFL player. Those types of guys are decent later first, early second round picks. Those types of guys coming off a sports hernia surgery and most likely not taking part in the combine or Pro day workouts are sure to slide down boards.
You're right his "value" is based on opinions of experts not picking players. Just like the "experts" you believe in. If you think he is "just another guy", then that's your opinion. I'm saying he will be really good NFL player and if Richardson, Upshaw, and Ingram are off the board at #16 and the Jet's pick Barron then I'm good. They would have a day one starter. Somebody who could be physical at the line of scrimmage with Gronkowski and also able to run with him. Highly recruited Alabama athlete who played receiver, running back and linebacker on a state championship team before choosing the Crimson Tide over offers from Florida, LSU and Miami (Fla.), among others. A special-teams player as a true freshman in 2008, recorded 18 tackles, zero pass breakups and zero interceptions with one sack in 14 games while learning multiple DB positions. Head coach Nick Saban later told the Mobile Press-Register, “In our efforts to get Mark Barron on the field, we put him in more situations than maybe he was ready to handle and that was my mistake, our mistake.” Stepped into the lineup in ’09, when he started all 14 games at strong safety for the national champs and responded by posting 76-11-7 with 3 1/2 tackles for loss and half a sack. Led the Southeastern Conference in interceptions and tied for the lead in passes defended (18). Started all 12 games played at strong safety in ’10, logging 75-6-3 with three tackles for loss, two sacks and a forced fumble. Missed the Tide’s bowl game after surgery to repair a torn right pectoral muscle. Two-time team captain. Evaluation: A big, smart, competitive, hardworking playmaker at a premier program, Barron looks the part — rangy, long-levered, athletic build and a linebacker-sized frame capable of carrying increased bulk — and possesses starter-caliber instincts and tackling ability. Is a strong box defender while having length, range and hands to play on the back end. Lacks elite fluidity and man-cover skills but shoulders a lot of responsibility in Alabama's scheme, plays fast and is an ascending football player with a professional makeup who could start as a rookie
All I know is if TRich, Ingram, and Upshaw are off the board @ 16, I think it puts us in an excellent situation to trade down to 26 (allowing Houston to draft a complement WR to Andre) (and the pick directly before NE, doesnt that work out nice) so we can grab Barron and have then have 3 picks in the 2nd-3rd round to get 2 OLB and an OL. That would be a pretty sweet draft
You Barron lovers for Rd 1 need to get a clue. A player that has battled injuries for a good part of his career and now has a serious sport's hernia and can't compete in the combine next week isn't going to be drafted in rd 1.
But but but but Mel Kipper has him mocked to us! He’s a real draft expert!11!!! In all seriousness, Im sick of this Barron talk too. If people are talking about him as a second round option, then okay, but he should be no where near the discussion for pick 16. There will be very talented players at positions of need like OLB, RT and WR at 16, players that are actually deserving of the 16th overall pick and not overrated prospects due to a weak class at the position. Barron is a good player. But a safety prospect that is being talked about in the middle of the first should be a game changer, a ballhawk, very good in coverage and a dynamic player. The consensus here, and many places, are that he’s only not really a ballhawk or great in coverage. He’s not going to make game changing plays. Eric Berry is a safety taken high in the draft. Before his injury, he looked like he could be the next safety to possibly jump into the class of Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu. In that same draft class, Earl Thomas was taken with the 14th overall pick, around ours this year. Thomas has the coverage skills, play making ability and ballhawking skills and was taken so high for those reasons Barron is not that type of player. Lets please get over this talk of him at 16 because its undeserving.
The biggest knock on Barron is lack of coverage skills and his limited ranged in the back end. This is a guy who is a good SS. This is not the answer to what we need at the saftey position. If we are looking for a strong in the box saftey who has very limited cover skills, we may as well start Eric smith again. Barron is a horrible fit for our needs. He is exactly the type of guy that is not going to be able to stay with Gronk or Hernandez in man situations.
