The Jets never have to trade up. That's a self-defeating mechanic that Bradway installed when he was GM and Tannenbaum has continued to use despite the fact that the Jets are just spinning their wheels in the mud when they do it.

What the Jets need is excellent football management and they have not gotten that at any level since Bill Parcells left town and there were arguments then (cap-wise) that Parcells was screwing things up.

There's a reason that teams are generationally absent from the Super Bowl and bad management is it.

This is probably good for us actually.

    Sucks for Barron though.

I would have been annoyed to see the Jets take him at #16 though i dont think that was ever a realistic possibility?

I don't think anything is certain right now, but I would be shocked if he made it out of the 2nd Round.

    This is not an ACL.

I think no lower than the 2nd round, because injury or not, he's still the best safety prospect on the board, and if this injury is true, he'd still be ready to go by training camp.

A double hernia is worse than an ACL imo... for a sport player I mean.

That said I think it's realistic he could be there in the #2 for us... hopefully some other S lights up at the combine (guy from ND?) and Barron slips... I would even go as far as to trading up for him in the top 10 of rd 2 if he's still available and if we recieve a lot of compensatory picks (like we should).

Unless Tanny goes after a big name FA or two, he should be able to sign at least one safety and a RT in FA. That should be his number one priority in FA. If there's extra cash, sign a QB or a 2nd S. If there's still money left, then they can try to sign a John Carlson or Braylon. Otherwise, they need to focus on improving the team through the draft.

That bastid Tanny better not even think about trading up in this draft.

Just because he's the highest-rated safety doesn't mean the Jets should draft him wherever he falls to in the draft. The idea of trading up for him, is totally stupid.

The Jets would be much better off signing Tyvon Branch in FA. He's young, fast, good in coverage and a good tackler. He's an up and coming player.

I don't think the Jets should even consider Barron. I'd rather see them take an OLB in round 1, then either another OLB, a WR or RT, or even a RB (David Wilson) in round 2 over Barron.

    1. You're 100% right about trading up for Barron. Too many holes on this team to be trading away picks.

    2. You're 100% wrong about Branch being good in coverage. He is young, fast, and a sure tackler, but a liability in coverage, especially man.

    3. I would not be opposed to Barron in the 2nd, depending who was left on the board. I definitely do not want to see a RB in the 2nd.

I hope you're right and it's almost pointless speculating on cap space at the moment, but forecasting the situation right now, it looks grim. Some tough decisions will have to be made in order to go into the draft without too many pressing needs.

Really? I'd have to disagree. I had a sports hernia, albeit not a double, when I was 20. I recovered fully within 6 weeks. I never had an issue with it again.

Sports hernia has no impact on his draft status. Michael Crabtree had a broken foot and still went in the top 10. Barron needs to be a serious consideration at #16.

Crabtree was seen as a beast, in an incredibly shitty WR draft.

Go take a look back at that draft http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_NFL_Draft#Round_one

and youll realize that the overwhelming majority of the WRs drafted ended up being trash.

You got maybe 2 good wrs (Crabtree, Wallace) and a handful of mediocre ones (Nicks, Maclin)

I don't think "shitty" is fitting, nor would I call Nicks or Maclin mediocre, especially in comparison to Crabtree.

    1st Round WRs - Good(6)
    2nd Round WRs - Bad(2)
    3rd Round WRs - Gemstone inside of a turd(Mike Wallace)(7)
4th Round WRs - Solid for Round 4(Thomas, Hartline, Murphy, Collie)(4)
    5th Round WRs - A Pro Bowler, a dead guy, and mediocrity(4)
    6th Round WRs - ...Brandon Gibson...(3)
7th Round Wrs - Edelman, Stroughter, and the guy cut before the Super Bowl(8)

I wouldn't say it was a "shitty" WR class, even DHB turned it around this past season. Not the greatest WR class, but it produced some quality players...

Absolutely not. Havent you read enough on here and other places besides ESPN that Barron is not a mid 1st round talent? I am pretty convinced that he will be there with our 2nd round pick (not saying I personally would take him, because I might not) and if we overdraft this guy in the 1st I would be extremely pissed to where I wouldnt watch the rest of the draft.

Mike Wallace and Hakeem Nicks are rising talents and are well above just good and mediocre. Im sure the Jets would kill to have either one of them. Maclin is a good WR, he had a down year this year bc of injury combined with the Eagles as a whole being real shitty. That draft class was actually pretty decent.
