O-line , d-line. Build from the inside out. Decastro and reiff look good. Barron could be a score in later rounds.
Our first two or three players need to be players that can play right now and give a contribution .. We don't have time for developmental players early on.
donta hightower is the most talented of all those picks.he will be a future all pro in my estimation.
This. The player taken at #16 needs to be a playmaker, and impact player, not an OL. That would be an almost total waste of the pick. No to DeCastro or any OL. No to Floyd The only players on WW85's list that I'd want are Ingram, Jeffrey or maybe Mercilus. It's not that I don't think the others are quality players. They obviously are all excellent prospects, but the Jets need to match quality with need.
I understand where you're coming from since so few Jets' high draft picks have been able to come in and contribute significantly early, but I don't think the team is going to be a serious contender in 2012 anyway. I'd rather have a player that's gonna be a great player in 2013 and beyond than someone who may not be as good but who can come in and contribute immediately.
I dont agree, drafting DeCastro would make this OLine elite. I dont want to cut either one of Moore or Slauson but DeCastro is a huge upgrade over both of them. He'd improve our run game, protect our QB, and overall solidify the offense. Yeah, he doesnt get touchdowns but usually the game is won in the trenches. He'd be an excellent selection and a safe one at that. Or If we decided to get a RT who fell to us like Martin, Reiff, or Mike Adams it would REALLY revamp the line this year and for the future. Hunter was horrible. Plugging in one of these guys further protects our QB, makes our offense effective in the run and passing game, and keeps us young. Similar to DeCastro it is obviously not flashy but improves this team big time and allows our offense to expand, something we didnt have last season. Lastly, Floyd would be perfect for this team. Hes a great run blocker, has great hands, and can go across the middle. He'd make an instant impact and can be the younger version of Braylon IMO coming out, who knows how much more he can grow. Floyd can be an impact player coming out of the gate. I'd especially love to see him at #2 WR across from Holmes since it puts less pressure on him and allows him to work against weaker CBs instead of him being the #1 wideout for a team and being somewhat exposed simply because he's a rookie. Lastly, I dont think he's much of a gamble, yeah his problems at school dont help, but he has shown significant progress to stay out of the way of the law as well as be very effective on the field.
It's fine that you disagree. I think DeCastro, Martin, Reiff and Adams are all excellent prospects. I just don't think they would be the wisest choice of the Jets resources (#1 pick). I think the Jets already have used enough high draft choices on their OL. You can develop a very good OL with middle, lower round draft picks and UDFAs. You don't have to have 5 #1 picks and perennial Pro Bowlers. That's a waste of your resources. If you invest your prime picks on OL, then that leaves the cupboard bare at the playmaking positions. It's just not smart. Rex has had to try to win with his system rather than with real playmaking talent on his unit with the exception of Revis. He deserves to get some prime playmaking talent. LOTS of teams need pass rushers. The Jets have need them for years, but ignored the position save for Gholston and it has cost them. This team isn't going to win squat until they can generate consistent pressure on opposing QBs. To say they can is what is really ignorant. To bypass taking one of the elite pass rushing OLB prospects in the first round for an OL is just plain stupid, I don't care how good the OL prospect is. They bust too, you know? I don't think Floyd would be a perfect fit. I see him as a potential headache and troublemaker, and I think his bust potential is pretty high unless he grows up quickly. If he becomes a star in the NFL, he will be the first player from ND to do it in a while. Their players get grossly overrated imo. The draft is strong and deep at WR. The Jets have bigger needs. The only WR I'd probably take in the 1st round if he fell to the Jets would be Blackmon. Even then someone would probably be willing to give up a boatload of picks to move up and take him, and I'd probably take the picks and run.
You can develop very good pass rushers from UDFA status as well, Harrison was a UDFA's, so does that mean we should ignore OLB becasue its possible to get a good one later on? The Pats have created a nice little dynasty in the AFC east by spedning tons of early round picks on the O-line. They have 4 guys drafted in the first or 2nd round on the roster ATM. Does taht make them not smart? There is more than one way to build a team, but the least intelligent thing to do would be to ingore a talent in any round because you belive that player can eaily be filled another way. A guy like DeCastro would have to be looked at if he fell to 16. He's far too good at his position to be ignored. He's shown every tool needed to not only come in and start at guard, but come in and be a dominant guard from day one. To over look him becasue we've invest high picks at Center and LT would be down right silly.
My biggest concern with Decastro is that I feel like Guard is Ducasses best shot to contribute to this team. In my head I picture Slauson/Moore as the starters this year, and Ducasse/Slauson being the starters after. And theyre both pretty young and serviceable. Now if Decastro could either project @ RT, or Slauson/Ducasse could get kicked out to RT then by all means would I love the pick. But if all we would do is draft him and cut one of the other guys, then im certainly weary and would be a bittersweet pick to me Obviously im banking on shithead (ducasse) stepping up and contributing after this season, but I truly beleve that with a little more time and a simpler offense that he will be able to do his part.
He doesnt want a WR with the first pick, and I wholeheartedly agree. Unless the WR we drafted is an absolute fucking monster (ie Calvin Johnson), I would be incredibly displeased with any WR in the 1st unless of course we traded way the fuck down picking up at least 2 mid round picks
You should not pass on someone that looks to be a elite player and very safe pick for a maybe. You cut your losses with Ducasse, or hope he can beat out Slauson if you draft DeCastro. You upgrade your entire line by taking a guy like DeCastro. He makes the others around him better in much the same way Mangold does. Simply by making few mistakes in his own right and being dominant in run blocking. Your talking about a guy that run blocks like fancea, but with better pass protection skills. I'd be over joyed for a player like him on our line for 10+ years. Yuo
I just didnt get the "TENCHES" part. WR isnt Ideal. Id rather OLine or OLB in the first but if Floyd or Jeffery is there and their arent better options Id be very glad to have them on this team. Both would be perfect #2's.
