Very interesting article -- It made me respect Ricky a lot more. He actually seems genuine, or at least the writer of the article makes him seem so. I wish the very best for him.
It was kind of nice having a middle-class African-American star runningback who had the same drug problems that many of us grew up with. Having one guy out there who didn't grow up on a street corner getting shot at and selling crack was kind of refreshing.
i dont see what the big deal is? he never got away with murder(ray lewis), he never ran someone over (stallworth), he dosent beat his wife (countless), he never shot anyone/himself....he retired from a game. the reasons were somewhat selfish back in 2004 or whatever, but is that really a reason to villafy the guy?
I accidentally put ESPN on the other day and Ricky was on Dick&Dick talking about his retirement. I have listened to a lot of Ricky's more recent interviews and he had sounded very lucid. The other day, Ricky sounded like he was stoned out of his mind. Smoke Ricky Smoke.
You said it best. I just did some research earlier today on him, and I realized he is a very awesome, easy to like kind of guy. I wish he would play more yet.
Yeah, that's right. Probably 3rd best you ever had. But that also says a lot about how bad your RB situation was. Csonka, Mercury, Ricky, Kiick and T. Nathan are probably your top 5.
He's very likeable if you watch the 30 for 30 film "Run Ricky Run" Almost makes you feel bad for him a little bit.
Csonka is #1. Williams is a good choice at #2 if you base it on actual playing and don't discredit him for the first retirement. If you did that, then you'd also have to dock Csonka some points for going to Memphis. Mercury Morris, Delvin Williams and Jim Kiick are the next three in some order. Benny Malone was good for a while and David Overstreet had potential but he was killed in a car accident.
Martin, McNeil, Snell, Boozer, Riggins. We've had our share of decent RB's. Sorry you got offended by the sleight. It was meant as a factual statement.
