Not a shocker at all, but the Jets have picked up Holmes' 2013 salary http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/38527/as-expected-holmes-staying-with-jets
We all saw this coming. I think next year will be Much better( and needed ) to calm the nerves. We need to lower expectations and build for the future. Holmes needs to be complemented to strive he falls short when doubled 100%
Agreed 100%. Now let's bring back Braylon or another physical #1 WR, protect Sanchez as much as possible and give him a potent running game.
It was pretty obvious they were leaning this way. Not sure this is the right move. They must really be convinced that Holmes will straighten out. I think that hanging on to such an overtly selfish player sends the wrong message to the team. If this were the Patriots, there is no way, NO WAY that a player gets away with this kind of behavior w/o getting cut.
The cap hit we would have taken this year after cutting him would be astronomic. I never expected Tanny to do such. Whether he's on this team after next year is an entirely different question.
Yep. These are the major factors at work here. That and that the Jet FO and Ryan know that while Holmes acted inappropriately, he did so with some real provocation, that being the poor play of Sanchez.
Why do we need to lower expectations.... Last year I expected the Jets to win 9-10 games and have a punchers chance in the Playoffs like the 2 seasons prior.... They "COMPLETELY COLLAPSED" and won 1 less game than I expected..... My expectations are EXACTLY where they were entering last year. As a matter of fact, I expect a lot of things on this team to be a lot better since every aspect of the team had a step back - I expect a better OL, better QB, better WR, Better defense, a better locker room, better running game and most importantly a better Offensive vision, play calling and adjustments.... I expect Rex to take alot of went down to heart and do a great job in motivating and getting the TEAM together........ Heck, I may even raise my expectations to a solid 10 Wins and a punchers chance in the playoffs.
Guaranteed contract money does strange things to the decision making process. Holmes is still a Jets mainly because the FO really didn't want to take the cap hit and watch Holmes go somewhere else, have a probowl season while we're picking up the tab for it. Now, the million dollar question is, have Sanchez and Holmes buried the hatchet, or will they bury the hatchet in each other's backs..
I heard they're also going to resign Wayne Hunter because they feel that all of his mistakes were due to Sanchez not executing the snap count correctly.
i'm fine w/ this...there aren't any better receivers out there that wouldn't want high money aka vjax, floyd, d. jackson
I think it's a good move. You let him go, eat all that money and then what? You need a WR, you're cap strapped and you're not going to bring in a better WR even than an unhappy Holmes. The guy is a grown man, so is Sanchez, so is Rex, so is Sparano. They all make a lot of money to do a job, fix your shit and do the job. Aside from winning a lot of games for us in a short period of time, Homes was a Super Bowl MVP when he was younger and had bigger problems. So the idea that you can't win with him because he's a cancer is nonsense.
I think it was that and the whole offensive scheme. Hopefully we've fixed the play-calling, now we need to fix the other. At times, Sanchez and Holmes did have the chemistry needed. We just need to work on that some more. Holmes is a damn good receiver, so I'm relieved that we've got this done. It's a start.
I think getting out from under Schotty's umbrella will cure a lot. Sparano flat out said he believes in moving the ball in 20 yard chunks, getting the ball downfield. It's the opposite of what Schotty believed in and exactly what Holmes excels in. If Sanchez and Holmes can bury the hatchet this offseason even in the slightest, enough so that they have a healthy working relationship, I truly believe this season can fix a lot of things, including Holmes' happiness with the team.
If he can get Sanchez a big target for down field passing that will best suit Mark. Mark throws the deep ball very well.
Agreed, that's the biggest need. But shots downfield and moving the ball in big chunks aren't necessarily one in the same. I see what you're saying, but I also think Holmes' role will be a lot bigger under Sparano than Schotty. More targets = happy Holmes. Sad, but true.
why do we need a big target? does it matter if its big or small? if the WR can get separation and get behind the defense who cares if he's 6'10 or 5'11??
Fabrication, as in lying? Nice. It's beyond question Sanchez did not play well. It is beyond question Holmes was unhappy with Sanchez. It is no great leap to conclude Holmes was unhappy with Sanchez's play, and this led to Holmes's behavior. Rather than call it a fabrication, why not address the substance?
