Given our "disastrous" year in terms of keeping our problems in house, lack of chemistry, leadership and the fact that Rex is viewed as a blowhard by many players/franchises, if it comes down to us and Team B, and the money is nearly equal, or perhaps less, can you see us being the less desirable of the two options. Money does talk, but it only talks so much. At the end of the day, it's a combination of money and comfort. What do you think? You can look back to times when we were shunned, Winfield (I know, eons ago), Heap just last year, and I'm not sure if they ended up taking more money to go with a lesser franchise, or if the terms were nearly identical, but it does give you cause for concern. Are we a turnoff to some degree?
I agree to an extent but Rex is probably the best salesman out there. While some players might be turned off because of the reports through the media, the backend contacts of the players amongst each other will most likely trump any shitty article Cimini or Mehta can publish. Rex can sell his brand of football and coaching to anybody for the most part. I would think we are no less better off than 2007~2008.

Winfield's Wife didn't want to live in NY. Heap wanted to go home to Arizona. It's funny how winning/losing changes everything. Rex was on top of the world a year ago and now he's perceived as a blow hard. I'm a Sanchez fan and have supported him, I think the most important factor, besides money, is if the Free Agent feels Sanchez can take this team to the Super Bowl. Free Agent's main reasons for signing are money, location and Super Bowl potential.
Money, Money, Money. The final decison to come to the Jets will be the contract. IMO Rex will be somewhat low-key with the media plus I believe he has learned from his mistakes. Most of the problems will be resolved if we bring in a few free agents and doing better in the draft.
Of course the answer is yes. The biggest factor is Mark Sanchez. Any FA looking at the Jets has to be somewhere between concluding already he is unlikely to succeed or, at best, thinking there is some chance he will, which is too little to gamble on. In other words, add in that factor to the ones you mentioned, and I would think the only FA's who would come here would be ones who the Jets have to pay some premium to, or who have no other offers.
We were 8-8. Jesus, the Giants were 9-7. It's about money of course, and anyone who thinks the Jets aren't an attractive FA destination because we faded down the stretch this season is crazy. Let's not get too carried away. I'd bet a good percentage of the FA's won't even remember what our record was once its negotiation time. And they still think Rex is a great coach to play for despite the Holmes/Sanchez cat fight.
I remember a time not so long ago that everyone assumed if all things were equal that a FA would choose the Jets because of Rex Ryan, a lot changes in one year apparently.
For most free agents it's not about the money. They will get the money anywhere they go if they are any good, it's about winning titles and the chance of doing so.
Give me a break....Jeez!! The Giants were 9-7 and won the Suoer Bowl. The Jets were 8-8 and lost their last 3 and didn't make the playoffs. It's about money and the ability to win the big game.
Do FA's want to go to a team that has a legitimate shot at the Super Bowl or go to a team with a player-friendly coach in a relaxed atmosphere? Do FA's want to go to a team lacking locker room leadership? Do FA's want to go to a team with a struggling QB? As always, money talks in the FA market, and for the Jets to get the players they want/need, they will have to overpay FA market value.
I don't think top-flight free agents will necessarily shun us but I think they mite be a bit more skeptical signing with us. Money is the most important factor for a player. If you throw the most money at him its more likely he'll sign with you. Rex has a good track record in his first three years and he sells his philosphy well. I think we'll be just fine.
I personally think defensive players will come running here, because there are very very few defenses built like ours d/t our insane corners so it will truly let guys shine. Offensive players on the other hand may think twice, most specifically if i was a wr or a receiving te i would think twice about stepping into this O. Blockers/hbs may also WANT to come here
I don't think anything has changed materially. Only thing i would say is that I thought that Rex's shortcomings would always be tactically and lack of the whole picture etc, but never loss of dressing room and handsoff-ness
Guys, ease up a bit. "Disastrous" was in quotes because given all of our problems as a whole, Sanchez's yips, that we lost to inferior teams, Rex's mouth, Holmes being a dick, lack of control in the lockeroom, lack of leadership, it's no doubt how alot of people see us looking in. It's not necessarily my opinion.
Another thing to point out. Players don't buy into the media and can give a rats ass what they have to say about another team. I think players know a lot more considering they play for teams and have friends on other teams. So the whole locker room meltdown and anythign else that made its way into the media is probably not going to necessarily have too much affect on a decison.
I generally agree here, with one exception - another Qb. If the Jets tried to get someone like Kyle Orton, hey, if I am Kyle Orton and the Jets say I will be given a legitimate shot to win the starting Qb job, I would choose the Jets over ANY other team. Same for any other somewhat comparable FA Qb.
