A lot of cynicism in JetLand these days as nobody really believes what Rex says much except for the most diehard Sunshiner. You can almost hear the chuckles in the media room when Rex goes into one of his "everybody is a star" modes. Rex's first year, everybody bought into him and the things he was saying were taken as gospel. Anyone remember this lil gem: "You take out one of ours, we'll take out two of yours..". Didn't happen that way and still hasn't. Or how bout this one: "Play like a Jet". Well, what exactly does that mean? Choke in big games or in Nationally televised games? He never really did specify what "play like a Jet" is and honestly, I'm still trying to find out what it is and when its going to happen. Still, in Rex we trusted. Rex's Second year was perhaps his best and might prove to be the highpoint of his stay with us. Playing like Jets beat NE but lost because they didn't bring the same intensity to Pittsburgh. Still we believed. In Rex we trusted. Rex's Third year was lets say, less than desirable. Team was on cruise control until it went off the rails at the end of the season. No discipline, no unity, nothing but controversy and disappointment. In Rex we started to doubt. Now we're in the Fourth year and Rex is slowly but surely making adjustments in his management style. He's going to be "more involved" with the defense, the offense and probably ST's unless Westhoff tells him to butt out. Does raise the question of what exactly was he doing last season since he "lost the pulse of the team" and other mea culpas. Now suddenly a lot of JetNation is from Missouri who's state motto is: Show me. I ask the group. Does Rex Ryan have a credibility gap and does the cynicism of JetNation seem unwarranted or indeed, justified.

People are overreacting to an 8-8 downfall season - it is obvious the guy and players have realized their faults and are making strides to improve upon them. One thing people get caught up in is what he has been saying for the past 3 years, or his guarantees. People have been buying into them, holding onto them, and when we don't make or win the Super Bowl, people throw tantrums and get upset. People have been setting themselves up for disappointment. We all knew he was a rookie head coach, that Mark Sanchez was a rookie QB, that the Jets franchise has been a B tier franchise for their entire existence. Expecting a rookie HC with a rookie QB to, in 3 years, change all of that is absurd. If people are crying now because of the Jets accomplishments over the past three years, it is their fault - period.

No, Rex has been setting people up for disappointment. He does nothing but talk and thats cool and all when the results are there but if youre losing, you need to shut up and be humble. All this garbage super bowl talk is ridiculous. Put up or shut up Rex. We dont need anymore retarded guarantees and your little speeches on how awesome every player on this team is. Take a note from BB and let the players play do the talking.
Not only is he setting up people he is making every team play their BEST against us... Every time Rex comes out an says "We're the better team on sunday" Our team can't sustain that Level of game through 19 games. He must be humble and only talk about our team and preparation. Teams love knocking us off our pedestal and talking about it afterwards I.E Suggs. He needs to stop creating Regular Season superbowls for our team and learn how to Drive a team through 16 games to get where we need to be. The playoffs
I don't take what Rex says and run with it. I look at what is on the field and run with that. I guess to each their own.
I don't believe anything Rex says publicly anymore. Look no further than the Shotty situation. His more recent comments of being more involved with the offense, defense and locker room are just odd to me. Delegating responsibility is one thing, but if he wasn't very involved with any of these elements, what exactly was he deeply involved in?
I just think people love to to create drama when things dont go their way. Ie 90% of jet fans. He has brought us more cred in terms of football play then any other jet coach. I invite you all doom sayers and I told you so's, to take a breath pull your skirts up and stop crying. I mean it is football not a soap opera. Lead follow or get out of the way
I plan on taking a more active role in preparing dinner this evening. The wife's doing a great job, she's fantastic, but I know how to contribute too. And I've really changed the culture around this house, by the way.
I am not a big fan of the guarantees. I wasn't a big fan of the book he wrote where he called Gholston "fake." I thought it was a little "fake" to call the guy out after trying to praise him when he was on the team. Wasn't a big fan of calling out Kerry Rhodes as "Hollywood." I still not sure what that means. I am still not sure why this apparent players coach couldn't get through to a good player. Oh, and Kerry was never replaced. And Rex is appearing in a Hollywood movie with Adam Sandler. Overall, I like Rex. I like the bravado. But that foot is always hovering close to the mouth. I just wish he would think out his bravado statements before he makes them.
There's no happy medium (which is IMO the correct answer for this question given the choices) so I just selected all the choices.
Professional sports is the one area in life where lying is not only accepted, but it's also expected. It's bizarre. So, I don't hold the content of what Rex says against him. What I do condemn the guy for is the context. Sometimes shutting the fuck up is a more powerful message. Goes for messageboards too.
I don't take anything he says as the truth. He'll stand at the podium and tell us every player on his team is the best in the league, why would I believe that shit?
I think he caused a lot of the cynicism himself when he said "Sanchez will be the starter as long as I am here" at the end of the season. Or words to that effect.
