Call him in to meet with Woody, the accountant and the loud mouth on Tuesday and tell him, we are issuing you a new contract that has 7.5MM guaranteed for next year and then three years thereafter at 5MM all based on an annual contract at the sole discretion of management.

If you say no, we have to write you a check for 7.5MM and you can bet with your history you will not get more than a $2MM non-guaranteed offer from anyone and no one is ever giving you a long term contract again. After what took place with the Steelers and now the Jets, he is totally tainted and a year to year player.

Again, only a smart front office would have that discussion so don't bet on it.

So youre going to take a guy who you owe a ton of guaranteed money and he has your organization held completely by the balls, and youre going to threaten him ?

I bet that will motivate him to get along with Mark more than ever.

And please he would get signed up by a team in a heartbeat.

They might not give him big money, but he would 10000% make more than Plax did last year

No one exactly knows what he would get on the open market this year and beyond. He could take a one year contract some where light it up and then cash in the following year.

I don't have any big problem with the Jets bringing him back. If it doesn't work the Jets cut him the following year and they will have plenty of cap space in 2013 to absorb the hit.

I also don't have a problem if they want to cut him. I would rather not since that would put the Jets right up against the cap, but if they have to so be it.

A plax fresh out of jail got 3m a year. I'm sure someone would pay him ~5-7.

Thank god you're not our GM. I don't even know where to start with all the terrible things you just said.

Belichik would sign him just to mess with us. Then we'd get the wonderful sight of him not being able to pick up the Pats offense and going all screaming child on them when Welker caught 120 passes next year and he caught 60.

He wouldnt get 7 million but definitely a 3-5m one year trial surely leading to real cash

Good. Morons like you do not belong to the front office anyway.

Guaranteed contract is NOT how you threaten a player with. Look what kind of good it did to the Jets to the UPCOMING off-season with Pace and Scott guaranteed.

I think a smart organization wouldn't resort to knee-jerk reactions and would give him another shot next year. If his attitude hasn't improved then get rid of him. But getting rid of him now doesn't improve the team as who is going to take his place? Let him and Mark work out their differences over the offseason and see what they can do next season.

Yeah and watch he sign with the patriots. Since they have a history of signing ex jets players.

This is something that a Pats fan pretending to be a Jets fan would post the day before Super Bowl Sunday in a fit of self righteousness.

More like him breaking records with Brady and destroying the Jets when they play..... just our luck

Guess what, he only has 7.5MM guaranteed till Weds, then it is $15Mm, so you try to mitigate losing $15MM to cancer while you have some leverage.

Not give a guy who was superbowl MVP for one catch #1 receiver money, and declare him your #1 receiver, when he cannot function in that role?

If we had a solid #1 Holmes would be one of the best #2 WRS in the league almost like a 1a. and we'd have a great receiving Duo. I always thought Holmes was good but it doesn't play to his strengths to have the pressure of a #1 receiver on him. If he has someone who does have that strength across from him(Braylon, Hines Ward), he can be extremely effective, its a package deal. If hes left alone as a solo threat(see lazy no help i'll play when i feel like it plaxico), he cannot thrive. I always thought he was a complimentary player not a workhorse who can carry the load.
