Today is the day (#2) if we find out if our favorite Running Back makes it to the Hall of Fame. I have purchased my Induction Ceremony Ticket so let's go!!!

I'm in full support of Parcells and Curtis.

Curtis will be an excellent ambassador for the Hall of Fame.

Parcells and Butler are close to being locks. I would say they are locks but unless a guy is really obvious like lombardi or Rice one can never know for sure with Hall electors.

After Butler and Parcells, Martin is next in line for me- Jet fan bias or not. The other Senior candidate, Dick Stanfel has a good shot too.

Andre Reed got more votes than Cris Carter last year. I thought that was wrong.

A Chief lineman should get in this year. I like Roaf slightly more than Shields.

It'd be really nice if Curtis Martin got into the Hall of Fame this year but they don't reward hard work, they reward people lucky enough to play for good organizations for most of their career.

Yes, but he was with good teams most of his career.

    11 seasons
    7 teams with winning records
    1 .500 team
    6 playoff teams
    1 Super Bowl team

No Super Bowl wins. 5 Pro Bowls in a 10 year career. 1 All-Pro selection.

And he played for the Jets, who have not put a player in the Hall of Fame since Namath and Maynard. I'm just doubtful he's going to get a fair hearing. They don't reward toughness and dependability, they reward Super Bowl wins and rushing championships and he has a total of 1 of those combined.

    2 times All-Pro

    2001 and 2004

He was a first team pick in 2004 by every selecting committee. In 2001 he was second team AP but first team FW and SN. Overall that made him first team along with Marshall Faulk.

Ah, Pro-football-reference must just pick up the AP teams for it's listing.

I still think Bettis has better chances than him and I think it's going to be tough for both to get in at the same time. I'd like to see him in because he's clearly one of the great RB's of all time.

That's a possibly important point about Bettis...
even though I think Martin would get the nod over him as a better back, Bettis got more pub and did win a SB

    We'll see

Martin was definitely the better back and Bettis won the superbowl as a backup. Hell, if it weren't for Roethlisberger making a game saving tackle, the bus would have been the goat of a loss in the AFCCG the year they won the bowl. It would be a damn shame if the bus got in over Curtis.

OTOH... the Parcells/Martin angle (them getting in together) could work to Curtis' benefit this year

I found Bettis vastly overrated and will not even make my Hall of Fame (which I may actually produce as a board topic this offseason).

Among other things, Bettis was known as a good short yardage back on mostly run-heavy good/great teams. Then why the heck did he only score one more rushing TD than Martin? Note- Bettis played in 24 more regular season games than did Martin. Martin did have 39 more carries, though.

Bettis was nowhere near the pass catcher or blocker that Martin was.

I was hoping the same thing. It would be appropriate for them to go in together - I think Martin said at one point that he would want Parcells to be the one introducing him or whatever you call that.

That's correct. He is going to have Parcells be his presenter.

I heard Peter King (a member of the voting committee) talking about the process of Mad Dog Radio about a week ago. He said that Martin has a good chance (and was very close last year), but that this years nominees are all very even. He said there wasn't one slam dunk choice and that a good argument could be made for any of the 15 nominees.

There is an outside shot that Parcells will present Martin and Martin will present Parcells.

There is a solid chance that Parcells will present Martin and a different Martin (George) will present Parcells. Phil Simms is another possibility.

Best fumbling percentage all time. 1 in every 120+ carries. No back currently in the Hall even close.
One of the best blockers too. Does that sound like a Parcells guy or what?

Curtis is pure class. I really hope he gets in this year.
