Same. Hockey has started to grow on me the past couple years so I would be the a Rangers fan due to the MSG ties.

Most people are front runners, though and become Giants / Yankees fans because they are the more successful teams. The Jets / Mets just naturally attract people who like to root for the underdog.

For me it's Knicks, Jets, Rangers, Mets.

I don't understand how Jets fans can like the Rangers, seems so weird to me. I personally can't stand the Rangers, not to mention they remind me of the Giants. The only old NY team I support is the Knicks.

    Jets, Diamondbacks, and Sharks.
    Born in San Jose
    Raised in Arizona
The Jets come from my dad. He's been watching them for a long time and I followed suit. Going on 10 years of watching the Jets.

Born and raised in Queens. My dad became a Yankee fan before the Mets even existed. My dad didn't care about football, until the Jets started playing in Shea. Also my sister went to Hofstra, so going to training camp was awesome.

Most of my family is Giants/Mets
    I only know a few Yankee/Giants

I'm Jets, Mets, Wrexham (soccer), Wales (soccer) and Wales (rugby). Even from over here in the UK I can see it should be Mets and Jets.

    Slightly off topic....
Looks like Wales soccer team are going to be playing a friendly against Mexico at the MetLife in May. One of my mates is flying out for the game and taking in a Mets game while he is there. So jealous.

there's a legacy with these things sometimes...my Dad was the influence.

Jets- Dad wasn't a Giant fan- rooted for the Browns before the Jets came along....that's who he picked, got season tixx etc....Followed allong with him. The Giants sucked when I was a kid, so it really wasn't the underdog factor or anything like that (as a matter of fact both football teams sucked in the 70's)

Mets- Dad was a Brooklyn Dodger fans.....hates the Yanks.....again i followed suit.

Rangers- This was an underdog pick, first started following hockey in '79 with the Rangers the underdog in that series with the Isles.......

Knicks- There's not really any choice here

I still remember the bad days...kotites last days vs the falcons...last game of herms era etc...and lets not even start on the Mets!!

While I can see your point about the underdog vs. front runner thing, for me it's being loyal to the teams of my youth..

I became an exclusive Met fan in '70, when, not quite understanding the whole issue of front-running, I was amazed that about 50% of the kids who rooted for the Mets in the '69 World Series had switched over (or back, I guess) to the Yankees in 1970. I picked a side and stayed with them, for better or worse, for the rest of my life. Tough being an Italian-American in the Bronx and then Westchester who's not a Yankee fan!!

As for the Jets,I got caught up in the AFL vs. NFL thing. I didn't see the AFL as inferior, but my Dad and my uncles ( all Giant fans who, taking their cue from the Maras) hated the idea of the Jets and the NFL infringing on their territory. So I guess rooting for the Jets and the AFL was more of an underdog thing. I started watching in '64 and by '68, I definitely favored the "cooler" Jets.

I took a lot of ribbing before SBIII, but stuck to my guns, and I remember getting a feeling right before game time that the Jets were going to win. They came through and I've been with them ever since.

While its hard being a Mets fan and dealing with the Yankees, I've never been that put off because the Yankees success has always been attributable to the significant monetary advantage that they have.
The Giants-Jets thing is a little more difficult, because monetary disparity is not really an issue in football. It always seems like when the Jets and Giants come to a fork in the road, the path the Jets take fizzles, while the Giants, more often than not, find gold.

Forget about the obvious examples of the past three seasons. I'll bring up something no one ever talks about. Let's go back to 1980. Both teams finish 4-12. The Jets pick third overall. They select Freeman McNeil. He becomes an all-time Jet. He's responsible for many great plays, but of course, like all the Jets of that era, always seemed to come up a little short. By virtue of some type of mysterious process, the Giants, with the exact same record, pick second that year. They choose Lawrence Taylor, and aside from merely revolutionizing the game of football, he is instrumental in turning around the Giants' fortunes, and puts them on a run they are still riding.

BTW, there is a great thread about the '81 Jets, that many are posting in. A great season, making the playoffs for the first time in 12 years. Of course, it was overshadowed by the Giants '81 season, where they get in for the first time in 18 years!!! I could go on and on about this, but I"m sure I'd only look like a bitter old fan to a lot of the younger posters.

    Rangers, Jets, Yankees, Knicks.

It's all where you're from. I live in Westchester, more people here like the Yanks more than Mets (by a long shot). In terms of Jets vs. Giants, the Giants may be a bit more popular (although many of them are suddenly Giants fans when they're in the SB), but the it's actually very close. I think I know more Jets fans than Giants.

And on a side note, did you really spell "their" as "there" six times in the same post? I can handle it if it happens once, maybe in twice, but six times?

I think you're reaching for straws with those reasons.

    I'm Jets, Mets, Rangers, Nets.

One of the only five Nets fans in the world.

Mets, Jets, & Isles I guess the Knicks too but I don't follow basketball. I've got no problem with Boston teams other than the Pats, in fact the Sox are my second favorite team. I HATE the Yankees.
