Giants didn't cut Cruz because of Rex.

If the Giants were paying such close attention to Rex during Hard Knocks and the 2010 camp, why didn't they give Vernon Gholston a look? Rex talked him up a lot more than Cruz.

This is just Super Bowl week filler. It's a nice headline and that's about it...

First off... I think this is bullshit. Is that really how players are cut on the Giants... by determining whether the Jets might pick them up? Cruz scored 3 TDs in that game. It was an eye-opening performance. The Giants would have been idiotic to cut him loose. Are you telling me if a Vlad Ducasse type player turned in a Vlad Ducasse type performance in a pre-season game, and Rex said he liked him, would they have kept that guy to spite the Jets too?

Second, if its true that the Giants didn't cut a guy because they feared he might be going to a team they play once every four years, hen the Giants aren't as classy as they have the media conned into believing

Thirdly, all the posters who constantly put down the anti-Giant threads should read this story for a true understanding of the simmering hatred the Giants have for the Jets and their attempts to keep the Jets down at all costs.

You don't see it on the surface too often, because, unfortunately, the Jets do a great job of keeping themselves down.

But the Giants cockiness and nasty attitude toward the Jets reminds me of their Namath-era actions prior to SBIII (after SBIII, of course, they had to just shut up and take it). Rex must've had them worried about knocking them off their perch (at least until Dec 24, 2011)

To my recollection, only once, when his defense 'made that quarterback look like Dan Marino' after one of the Dolphins games in '09.

Wait but I thought the Giants were all class? Seems their ownership and players can't help themselves from taking shots at the Jets. I understand why the Pats do it but the Giants? They beat us and are in the SB, why this obsession with the Jets ? Fuck em, I hope Brady lights them up like an Xmas tree and I rooted for the Giants the last time they were in the SB. I've had to deal with too many Gfag fans taking shots at us the last few weeks that I can't take it anymore. I can't believe I want to see Belli raise another Lombari Trophy but I just can't handle these douchebags anymore.

That article was almost as bad as the Brady 1 on Monday with "hopefully" being trash talk.

Giants fans probably said the same thing about us when we were in the title game the last two seasons. Its no different.

Why does Mara hate the Jets? They help funded the new stadium for his team to play in.

It probably has to do with what Rex wrote in his book about how the Jets were the big game in town, and the Giants were going to play second fiddle for the next 10 years.

It goes back way further than this.

Maras are a condescending type (I know several personally)
They've always looked down their noses at the Jets
Plus, they don't react well to competition.
They believe they are the rightful owners of the hearts of NY football fans

They were threatened by the Namath era Jets and wound up trading away enough draft picks for quick fixes that never panned out, which sent them into a 15+ year downward spiral

Since the 80s, they've had it pretty much their way and the media falls into lock-step with them.

Now, they are clearly threatened again although the breaks are going their way, at least this year. Remember this "Cruz comment" if it was made, was made last year, when the Giants were panicked by the thought of a powerhouse Jets team.

It appears that the owners of the Giants are completely insecure when the co-owner of the stadium has success. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think the Jets need to move to another stadium, probably somewhere in the Bronx. Why does the Giants have this obsession with the Jets? They need to worry about their own team because the Giants and Jets are not in the same conference, and only meet once every 4 years in the regular season.

Yankees/Mets I can understand since it's a Subway Series that happens twice a year during baseball, but why do the Giants have this hatred towards the Jets?

The Dolphins cut Channing Crowder because Rex didn't like him. Then when Rex kept not liking him he had to retire because he knew no-one would hire a player that Rex didn't like.

    Rex is just that powerful.

After the money Woody spent to build the stadium, there's no way it's happening. The Jets should have moved to Queens when they had the chance.
