IDK if there's been a poll like this, but it'd be interesting to see how long fans here have been suffering. I tried to break it into eras of some sort. Unfortunately, I was born in 1985, so the earlier eras weren't so easy for me to classify.
I don't remember if it was 80 or 81 (I was born in 75) so I went with the 81-86 option since I don't remember much from when I was 5 years old anyway. I didn't even have any Jets fans in my family - green was my favorite color and the rest is history. I remember playing catch in my friend's backyard pretending we were Richard Todd and Wesley Walker - ah, those were the days...
Oh wow I can't really remember, it just happened. My dad is a Giants fan but I went toward the Jets growing. Probably around 97-98 are my first football memories. Not very vivid memories, but memories.
hmmm i was 9 years old and my dad was watching a game with this guy wearing white shoes telling me how good he was 1968
Rex Ryan turned me onto football. Didn't really watch much of it before 2009, but knew that I couldn't be a Giant's fan
Early 1980s. I have recollections of the 1984 season. I remember the Jets blowing a 20-3 lead in New England. When the Jets lost 30-20 my father did a lot of yelling about the horrible loss.
The '86 season, the playoff game 2OT vs Cleveland. For some reason, it started for me then. I was a kid then, and I hadn't paid the NFL any attention before then. Its hard to believe how much my devotion to this team has defined my life since that one game, but I'm so happy it did.
was a fan since I was a little kid thanks to my Dad. Didnt really understand the game or followed until the Herm Edwards days .
Same boat. Followed the team since a youngin in '98 with parcells, but didn't really understand the game or the franchise until Herm came here.
My father brought home season tickets in 1986 I think. I love the NY Jets, but we joke a lot that if he would have brought home Giants tickets instead, we could have enjoyed several super bowls by now.
I became a Jets fan in the early 80's. My father would watch the games and teach me the In's and outs of the game. I Would wonder why my dad would always scream at the ceiling and ask "what have I done to deserved this". My dad saw winner and told me that one day I would too. Still waiting .............. I have worn jet apparel to both of My children being born and a Jets Tie to my wedding as well as a Jets tattoo above My LT breast where it would be when I wear my Jersey. Till death due us part!
i was a bears fan in 86 i was 4. really didnt care about football that much, untill the dennis byrd game, been a fan since.
