That wasn't my question. I said when not who. I havent heard Ryan talk about it since people thought there wasn't going to be a season this year yet people like to think that Rex every day talks about all his accomplishments.
A rookie quarterback and coach bring us to the Afc Championship game? impressive They do it again the next year, even better. They go 8-8 and miss the playoffs when they weren't mathematically eliminated. I'd say Rex Ryan has a pretty good resume. Everyone is all over Harbaugh for what Ryan did his first season in town. I'm proud of the team for making it to those two games, two years in a row and feel the right to bring it up whenever someones telling me how bad the Jets suck.
Both Ryan and Tannenbaum mentioned it in 2012 but prior to the Giants winning the NFC. I have not heard any self-congratulatory statements from the blowhards since then.
I love Rex..but he will play the playoff card. http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jet...g-it-right-now But he doesn't need to. He is a likable guy. He needs lieutenants under him to play the bad cop role. Sparano seems like he can handle that job. Maybe Pettine needs to get a bit tougher with his side.
Flashing back two or three years ago, I thought, win or lose, the Jets were gonna tear a new asshole (defensively) into teams we faced. We'd run a muck, conjure up memories of some JETS glory days (re:Sack Exchange), bang some heads and lead the league in defensive penalties. Looks like the Giants are filling that role in NY. Sad am I.
So let me get this straight. Making the Superbowl and losing is worse than losing the AFCCG. Please explain the logic here... Oh yeah, I do realize they don't give out trophies for the SB losers so what the point of the statement? Someone has to lose the SB but at least they can brag about being IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. Hang your hat on that instead of being oh so proud of back to back losses in the final four.
They had a press conference after the season ended where Rex mentioned the AFCC's, and also during the conference call for the Sparano hire I remember him mentioning it. Basically, 80% of the time Rex has had a microphone in front of his face in 2011/2012, he has mentioned the 2 AFCCs. And that may be a completely made-up percentage, but it can't be that far from the truth.
Here's the point : NEITHER is something to be proud of. I would NEVER be proud of being a LOSER of a championship game. That would be considered a "Moral" style of victory. I don't want a Moral-style victory. I want a REAL Victory....A SuperBowl one. Now that said, how is that type of thinking of "well we can brag about being in the Championship Game" working out for the Bills fans who saw their team LOSE 4 Straight times in the Big Game? Not very well, I can imagine... When your team makes it all the way to the Big Game and Loses, the level of Devastation a fan of that team feels is more than that fan would feel after coming up short in a AFCCG.
As a Jets fan and a fan of great football I would love to see the Jets actually field another great football team win or lose the big one. My biggest frustration as a long term fan is not that we haven't won the SB it's that with a couple of exceptions which didn't include the last 2 years, we haven't fielded a SB caliber team.
only thing i could think of is that historically the losing team in the super bowl falls off hard the following season. hell no team has lost the super bowl and won it the next season since the 1972 dolphins. that said they haven't even been to the super bowl since before a good chunk of us were born. i would take a super bowl loss and being able to watch them in the super bowl over another afc title game loss any day of the week. still whenever they get to the super bowl by all means i hope they win that thing and hopefully it's soon.
History has not been kind to either SB losers or multiple CG losers And if the Jets ever made the SB and lost, their accomplishment would be continuously diminished by the likes of the legions of Jets haters in the media. And god forbid Rex or anyone ever tried to put a SB loss a positive light. So arguing between losing the SB or multiple championship games is a pointless exercise, IMO
