Eric Berry was well on his way to becoming the next great one untill an injury derailed his season. There are still some up and coming elite talents out there (earl thomas for seattle is another good one). I agree above average play would be nice for us, but just disagree that there are not some up and coming gme changers out htere.
Ihad glenn in the running for the Jets pick, with upsahw and Floyd whom I drafted in the fast one rounder. I ended up taking him for Cincy. The kid jsut eats up defenders and would be huge for our running game. I would be thrilled if we drafted him, but there are teams in front of us that may take him (Cards and Cowboys come to mind instantly).
Marvin Jones with a TD... Nice physical route. LOVIN Criner. Showing good routes, great hands and good separation (given the CB rules).
Some observations so far: It looked like Glenn was pushed back into the QB on the int by Ta'mu Criner is looking pretty good (pretty much all WRs are to me so far) I think Curry has a sack and a QB hurry which caused an int. QBs (though I dont think the Jets should be looking at one) look bad
I am really interested to see where Criner ends up going. He may have worked his way up to mid 2nd round range. He has had a hell of a week.
Upshaw has been vert disappointing. Has done nothing. He has not shown any ability to get around either OT nor shed the blocks. He is too highly regarded and was too dominant in the SEC the last 2 years to be dicouraged or down on him, it has just been a disappointing showing. Curry showed speed and more physicality then I had expected. The LB from Utah State (blanking on his name) that had the INT in the 1st quarter has been all over the place and has a least 2 tackles on kick offs. Cam Johnson has all the looks of a 4 / 3 DE and not a 3 /4 OLB.
I would love him with our 3rd round pick if he made it there. I really really like him, he could be my favorite WR prospect outside of Blackmon, Floyd and Jeffery. He would be a great #2 on this team. He probably impressed as much as anyone else this week. Was there any other notable players/plays? I lost connection on my laptop after the 1st quarter
My observations from the game: North's QBs looked better coached and prepared. Quiton Coples looked like the best defensive player in the game. Mike Adams performance this week and the game convinced me he's a Rd 1 player. Kelechi Osemele looked solid at RT. Marvin Jones had a great week and good game. Isaiah Pead great game, looks quick and makes great cuts. I love Columbus prospects, he was shunned by Ohio State, just like BJ Cunningham. Doug Martin he does it all, I'd love him on the Jets. I was disapponted with the South Staff, I thought the North Squad was better prepared and Coached......great job Vike's staff.
interesting, I read before the game that the south would be playing in a 4-3 as aposed to a 3-4 and thus they were talking how Upshaw would be playing like a DE instead of his normal OLB.
Did either of Ingram or Upshaw play decently? As for as possible passrushers, did anyone impress? Sucks I left for college the day of the Senior Bowl and couldnt stream it on my laptop with out it buffering every five seconds... And yeah, I really like Martin. I think he is a nice combination of MJD and Ray Rice. Would love him if he made it to our 3rd rounder. Only thing with us drafting an RB is that Rex hardly gives them a chance in their rookie year.
I'm guilty of not following the senior bowl as closely as I would have hoped. Though from what I understand, any hope I had of us somehow landing Coples has completely evaporated.
Oh Coples solidified himself as a top 10 pick for sure. If CAR skips him, the Dolphins will definitely welcome him.
4-3 DE. If we someone got him, he would be a tough one to find a position for, but with Rex it would work. He’s 6’5 and 280ish.... Pretty much ideal 4-3 DE.
I need to eat my words about Mike Adams. He was extremely impressive in that game. He even looked good drive blocking which was considered the big question mark with him. He's gonna be a top 10 pick. I was disappointed with all the pass rushers except for Coples,Curry & Reyes. Upshaw is a good football player who will produce but he's nothing special as a pass rusher. Ingram is good at pushing the pocket and has a motor, but again is a good not great edge rushing threat. What worries you further about Ingram is how he fits in a run scheme? Is he a 3 down player? Good news is, this Senior Bowl had some good looking O-linemen. Adams, Glenn, Osemele & Zietler all project as NFL starters among others who have a shot as well. This is BEFORE you even consider underclassmen.
Rex would probably make him an OLB. Much like Mario Williams is in Houston, or Jason Taylor in Miami later in his career. He is the best pass rusher in the draft, bar none, so I would hope if he somehow fell to 16, the Jets would be all over that like white on rice.
I was most impressed by Curry and Criner. I would be pleased if these 2 guys were the Jets 2nd and 3rd round picks respectively.
Very interested to see where Cousins goes. He was a real up and down QB at MSU. Made lots of big plays but threw some terrible INT's. I'd love him as a 3rd or 4th round pick but doubt he will fall that far.
I actually mocked him to us in the 1st round back in October when it looked like we'd be drafting towards the end of the 1st again. There are a few guys I think will be really good values at positions of need for us in the 2nd round.
