Happy Birthday to me today! Probably the oldest on board. 81 and still a fan, with hope every year.

Yes, I see the problems, but no way my "voice" will help change it..."not my job!".

I was a ticket holder and viewer from the days of the Titans to today. Moved to Vegas to retire but continued to try and get to 1 game a year in NY or new cities. Never miss a game at the local pub, or leave early.

At this stage (started in 2009) I seldom posted any observations. Don't have time to waste arguing about our different view points.

But for me, Mrs. Coach and the Green Guys daughter, Morgan...Jets Jets Jets

I find myself in the middle, I call myself a realist as opposed to a darksider or a sunshiner although there certainly are plenty of each on both sides.

I've been following this team since Richard Todd was QB so certainly not as long as a few but much more then most and I've seen some highs and many more lows. That being said from the time Parcells came in to now we've been much better then we were going back from Parcells to Walton. I just think it sucks that our most successful era has come at a time when Pitt and New England have dominated the AFC. Between the 2 of them they've been to what 8 of the last 11 SB's with the Colts and the 2nd greatest QB of the era going to 2 more.

When will the fortunes of this team change? I think it's pretty easy, when we get a franchise QB. Richard Tood, Pat Ryan, Ken O'Brien, Boomer Esiason, Bubby Brister, Glenn Foley, Browning Nagle, Vinny T, Rick Mirer, Ray Lucas, Chad Pennington, Kellen Clemmens, Quincy Carter, Brett Favre, and Mark Sanchez oh yeah and David Norrie (plus I am sure I forget a few) are all guys who have taken snaps as a QB for this franchise in time I have been a fan. How many of them are "franchise QB's"? Obviously Favre was but not with the Jets. Maybe Sanchez can be that guy but right now unless something changes between now and next season he'll just go on the list of Jet QB's who couldn't get it done.

Ultimately it comes down to patience, yes this season sucked but based on the success of 09 and 10 I'm willing to give a pass to this year however if next year is another mediocre year then my patience with Ryan and Sanchez will be gone. I'm not a SB or the season is worthless guy but I do want this team to be competing for a title. 8-8, 7-9 are completely unaacceptable to me.

You have almost 20 years on me Ron. Happy Birthday.

That has been my feeling for awhile now.
The people that are in control will do what they want. The little guy is never listened to.

What pub do you go to now?

    I agree 100%.

    Stay healthy Ron.

I mean, whether you call it a "SOJF" idea or not, the idea of bringing in Manning is just plain stupid. Its a dumb non-sensical idea that would set this franchise back another 5 years. I'll compare the SOJF to the republican party...your ideas are ridiculous and based on a made up "cycle of jets behavior"? Please...

Champ, with all due respect, this is the same post you have been using for 10 years now. The players, coaches, FO, and owners always suck.

You were posting the same shit 10 years ago and during that time, the Jets have made the playoffs 6 times and have won more playoff games than any time in Jets history. Yes, I know they haven't brought home the big prize.

All of us have to realize that it takes patience and stability. The HC and QB have proven they can win in January. When you make the playoffs enough times, eventually the breaks go your way. But you have to be there - in the playoffs - for that to happen. I truly believe that the best thing to happen to the Jets was to miss the playoffs. It caused introspection and the realization that improvements need to be made in philosophy, coaching, personnel, etc.

I'm sorry, but 15 years ago, 8-8 would be considered a good season. Now it is a disaster. That is how far this franchise has come from the wasteland of the 70s and 90s.

If you are truly a student of Jets history, you will realize that the biggest mistakes the Jets made were in getting rid of coaches and players too quickly. The biggest mistake in Jets history was firing Michaels after the 82 season. That was a team that was building towards something and, I believe, would have won had Michaels been retained and coached that team through the 80s rather than Walton. And why was he let go? Not because of on the field matters, but because of image and the impression that he was a hot heat and a drunk. The players from that era - Klecko, Lyons, McNeil, etc - believe that was a huge mistake by the Jets management.

The same thing happened in the 90s. The fake spike led to a collapse and Pete Carroll was let go after one season and replaced with Kotite. I'm not saying Carroll would have been a great coach, but he has had success and the years that followed his firings were awful.

Parcells could have let the Jets to a title, but he left himself after only three years (only one of which was a playoff year) and sent the team in turmoil again.

And we have seen dozens upon dozens of past great players brought in here at the end of their careers only to see that they were not what they were - Favre, Atwater, Marshall, Esiason, Lott - the list goes on and on.

Everybody makes mistakes. There were plenty to go around this season, from Tanny to Ryan, to the Asst Coaches, to the players. The key to life, and football, is not to avoid mistakes, but to learn from them. Tanny and Ryan and Sanchez and the core of this team deserve a chance to see if they have learned from this season.

Other teams are patient and it pays off. Take the Giants. They were falling apart until the playoff run in 2007 and then followed that by three and three quarters seasons of disappointing football until this year's late run. If the Giants followed their fan base, Eli and Coughlin would have both been long gone by now. Same with Peyton Manning and the Colts. It took them years to win.

Champ - you and others want to changes coaches and QBs and GMs and players like you change your underwear. That is a foolish way to run a team. That is a Snyder/Redskins mentality and it never works. You can't rebuild over and over and win a SB.

Ryan - and Sanchez - have a 32-22 record, counting playoffs, in three years. They are 4-2 in the playoffs and have come two bad halves away from two SB appearances. That is a level of sustained success that this franchise has not seen since the 68 and 69. Look it up.

There are good players on this team - pro bowl players. Mangold, Ferguson, Revis, Harris. When was the last time the Jets had perennial pro bowl players on the roster? The early 80s?

This is a good football team that had a bad year. 50% of teams that make the NFL playoffs don't make the playoffs the following season. We were bucking a trend this year. I think that, with the right moves, this team will be back in the chase again next year. And the right moves do not include bringing in Manning or something else to sell tickets.

It means building so that this is a perennial playoff caliber team. It means sticking with Sanchez until it is clear that he is not progressing rather than the entire team. It means building a strong OL, not a patchwork with two stars and pedestrian fill ins at other positions. It means adding some speed and weapons on offense. It means finding a pass rusher and some edge speed on defense. It means finding a true safety or two. It means building through the draft, getting younger , and not overspending on one or two free agents, but finding the bargains and players that will out perform their contracts.

Patience. This is a good team. I truly have as much hope as I have ever had for the long term success of this team. I just hope attitudes like yours, which seeks massive change every time a season ends without a SB, don't screw it up.

I'm young but went out of my way to learn the history of the Jets. I know the miserable seasons etc. And my uncle always has stories for me.

And guys, it's Sunshiners and Darksiders. Get it right.

The only way Peyton Manning sets us back 5 years is if you're convinced that Mark Sanchez is the answer.

And which Republican ideas are ridiculous? Because things are going swimmingly under the recent liberal regime.

Yeah, it is odd. I haven't seen a post from either in a long time and here they both are in the same thread within hours of each other. Maybe they both lurk regularly now.

I am where you are but people on this board just don't want any grey area. You either hate every move this team makes or you love it. They have difficulty understanding objective views.
