Seriously though, he did turn around Rutgers, so maybe he can do the same for TB.

Well it should be interesting to see how RU responds, dam shame because word is they were going to play Oklahoma next year at the Meadowlands. I understand the move but given the way the ownership situation is and the unwillingness to spend money I won't hold my breathe for this to be a succesfull foray into the NFL for Schiano.

Odd choice but I love the RU program. I wish Schiano luck.

If they're smart they hire a big name like Tressel or some NFL coordinator. They need to make sure they keep the big haul of recruits they just got.

I would love to see Rutgers hire Tressell, that would actually probably be an upgrade over Schiano. I doubt it, Schiano was the highest paid employee in the state. Knowing the way Christie is about $$$ my guess they'll hire some 1st time nobody. The good thing is Christie is a sports fan so hopefully he sees Rutgers being successful as a good thing for the state.

I would suggest it would be very important to the state. Schiano was part of the allure of coming to Rutgers. They need that kind of hype again or they could potentially lose the program. IMO it would be smart to get someone who can continue to build.

Or take them to the next level, under Schiano they would compete with Cuse, Maryland, North Carolina or Uconn for recruits. Tressell has beaten out schools like Michigan, Texas, Oregon and Florida St for recruits.

This is surprising, after their interviews with Schottenheimer and Sherman it seemed they wanted an older/more experienced coach. I wonder if the Bucs will make a play for Ray Rice in free agency now with all that cap room they didn't spend last summer.

Good for the Bucs, bad for Rutgers. National signing day in less than a week and nobody knows who the head coach or assistant coaches will be.

It hurts short term because of the guys that will no doubt feel cheated by Schiano (see Leonte Carroo's tweets), but long term this will be a good thing. Schiano had them emerge from the land of the miserable, but he is flat out not a good coach. This team won games in the BE, but never won a conference title, consistently lost must win games, and basically stopped rising when they lost that one great generation of guys. Is it hard to replace them? Yeah, absolutely, but it's not like it's impossible. He ran the program like a dictatorship and had everyone convinced mediocre was the best thing in the world.

Tressel/NFL coordinators/other big names are not actual candidates. To do that would be basically moving away from what the program has been building on, and that's a close knit, "local kids making good" type atmosphere. Frank Cignetti wouldn't be the worst hire in the world, but in my mind Mario Cristobal is the MUST HIRE option. He's been here before, coached at successful institutions, and did the impossible at FIU. He's a winner, and can do what Schiano never did.

The problem is, the more you treat someone like he's the greatest thing to ever happen, they start to believe it. I honestly think he took the job because he started thinking that he could do better, when in reality his best option was to stay mediocre at Rutgers forever. This is absolutely a blessing for RU, while he'll no doubt fall flat on his face in Tampa.

I don't see this being a good thing for anybody. My nightmare postseason continues.

Haven't heard the terms but I would guess the money is a lot better than what he got at Rutgers and it comes with a five year guarantee...don't think for a second that money doesn't play into these things. I am guessing he could have had the Penn State job if he wanted it (he said he didn't). This way he can go to the NFL and fail like most college coaches do, bank the loot and then return to a much better job in college..just like Spurrier, Kiffin and Saban did.

Obviously you don't remember the days Rutgers was losing to Buffalo and New Hampshire. That wasn't that long ago. You do realize before Schiano Rutgers had been to a bowl game once since 1978, under him they've won 5 straight.

    This.

They have an amazing class coming in, and are in on a couple of other 4 star recruits. The timing of this is what bothers me. He is fucking with the recruiting class because of this.

Signing day is less than a week. We will see how many they keep. Apparently they may have already lost a couple of the biggest.
