Has anyone else heard about this or is it just rumor? It appeared on the Jets tweet last night, something about getting value for him this year before he could walk after 2012 in free agency.
He's not a Sparano type tight end. Sparano is going to want a big guy who blocks well and can catch passes.
Getting rid of Keller just creates another hole. And if true, I think there is a lot mroe smoke in Sanchez not being the qb here next eyar then most people think. The easiest way to piss off your starting qb is to get rid of his favorite weapon, and Keller is definitely Sanchez's favorite weapon.
Sanchez is like the black plague, Everytime he builds a relationship with a WR or TE the jets get rid of them. On that basis I would say they trade Keller this year.
I do not think it is a matter of pissing off sanchez, its not like he is going anywhere else on $15m a year.
No, you misunderstood. The goal is not to piss off Sanchez - that will be the result. He might not be going anywhere, but for a qb that already hates throwing the ball to anyone but hb's, has no chemistry with wr's and makes poor decisions, taking away the only downfield threat he trusts is a recipe for disaster, and will surely piss Sanchez off in the process...
If it's true i dont know how i feel about it. On one hand i don't think Keller is an elite TE. He doesn't block well. On the other hand getting rid of him would mean getting rid of a player Sanchez has chemistry with. I don't know if chemistry played apart in this year inept offense but if it had anything to do with it, it mite not be a good move.
i agree, it would be a negative move for sanchez, i was only pointing out that the way the chips fall at the moment, sanchez is in no position to be pissed, he just have to take it on the chin.
If he is in fact on the trading block, what do you guys think would be adequate compensation for him?
This is a good point. The question though is what do you do with a TE who is designed to fit into a spread offense as a primary receiver when you're making a commitment to going back to a tackle-to-tackle run game and taking deep shots up the field? TE's usually do a hell of a lot of blocking and are used as a secondary/outlet receiver in that kind of scheme. If Keller is not a good blocker and makes up the difference by being a primary receiver then he's not really a fit for the scheme. I don't particularly want the Jets to shake up Mark Sanchez receivers again but at some point you have to recognize that they've done a terrible job of building the offense and they need to begin to fix that. BTW, this is a classic example of why you don't trade up for players who are not core players. Keller was only going to fit in one type of scheme and things change dramatically over time in the NFL, including the offensive sets a given team runs.
Draft pick perhaps a second or third rounder we really need as many as we can get this year,in a sense we are rebuilding, how bout looking at a big stud type TE in this years draft if there are any(along the lines of Graham or Gronk).
Yeah, I get it. I really dont give a shit what Sanchez feels either. I just hope he is gone as soon as possible so that I can go back to enjoying Jet games live. But, it just seems like a recipe for disaster to get rid of his favorite weapon.
He's valuable and would be coveted by teams out there who need a receiving threat TE. At minimum, he's worth a 2nd, but the Jets won't do that because they lose the value. They'd take a 2nd and 4th or 1st for him.
I could see us getting a third. I think it mite pay off. The more picks we have in the draft the better. We have a few holes to fill and with a good draft we mite be able to fill most if not all.
I seriously hope they do not get rid of him. No one has more fire in his game, or pushes for that touchdown harder than Dustin Keller on the Jets. Dustin Keller may not be as big as Jermichael Finley or as fast as Vernon Davis, but he is a value that isn't easily replaced on our team.
Keller can be a huge weapon at times if used correctly but he does seem to have that inconsistancy factor come into play more than i would like to see.
