well, i'd be lying if i said i watched too many of their games. but just a quick glance at their career stats and you can see that they had meh to whatever first 2 seasons and then they progressed/"broke out" relatively in their third. much like our boy sanchez.

    both proceeded to suck afterwards.

what does this mean for sanchez?

    absolutely nothing.

How does one tell the difference between a "game manager" and "quality QB"???

Sanchez is not Eli, stop comparing them. Sanchez doesn't have the genes.

    Third year comparison

    Mark Sanchez - 308 for 543, 3474 yds, 56.7%, 6.4 YPA, 78.2 rating, 26 TDs, 18 INTs, 37 rushes for 103 yds, 6 TDs, 10 fumbles, 8-8 record

    Joey Harrington - 274 for 489, 3047 yds, 56.0%, 6.2 YPA, 77.5 rating, 19 TDs, 12 INTS, 48 rushes for 175 yds, 0 TDs, 6 fumbles, 6-10 record

Really? I'm so tired of hearing that their numbers AREN'T similar. Not even just that. Everyone bashes the hell out of Harrington. He sucked. We all know that. But everyone praises Sanchez. What's REALLY the difference here?? Exactly. If you think Sanchez is awesome, then you should be saying that Harrington was a good player. Otherwise, you're just a biased fan. Ignorance is bliss.

This. Agree 100% kid can play, but can we coach him up
And pull the "good" mark out. Certain young QBs have looked lost when in the game. Carr, Leinart, Gabbert, Harrington, Russel, etc...

Yes Sanchez will never be Eli, nor will Eli ever be Sanchez. They make a good comparison since both play in NY and were high draft picks.

I personally think Sanchez has better tools and potential than Eli. Ppl look at Eli and compare him to Sanchez of today but fail to realize that Eli was a 3 year bust. Eli was a bigger bust than Sanchez is rt now. Sanchez can't even be called a bust since he has playoff success, and good winning percentage.

What its frustrating to me is fans forget... esp Vagiants fans abt how much they hated Eli. They hated Eli and wanted him out, but now talk abt how Sanchez is terrible. They were doing the same with Tom Coughlin and want us fans to dislike Rex and run him out of town.

I hate the Pats but I can feel their respect, but the Giants fans with Alzheimer disease show no love to us, so f them. To me the Giants are not bad but many of the Giant fans in NY are out of their minds with this class organization, better team, and elite mentality .

    Eli Manning - 301 for 502, 3,244 yds, 57.7%, 6.2 YPA, 77.0 rating, 24 TDS, 18 INTs, 25 rushes for 21 yds, 0 TDS, 2 fumbles, 8-8 record

Obviously all three of these players had similar stats. I watched Joey Harrington play, a lot of us did, and we NEVER seen flashes of greatness out of him.

Nobody is declaring that Sanchez is this awesome QB right now, people are clearly stating the obvious about him.

He has flashed signs of greatness, he is very capable in big time moments, and he has been a part of a team that has went to two straight AFCCG. A lot of that had to do with him in the playoffs. His 4th quarter comebacks speaks volumes in itself. I could go on.

Joey Harrington doesn't have anything close to that on his resume.

Ignorance also comes in the form of a blind eye.

This whole thread is in regard to the "potential" that we have seen at times from Mark Sanchez. That "potential" has him in stride with another bust labeled QB from NY in Eli Manning. This thread was clearly made to open some peoples eyes a little bit, people need to stop bashing something that could potentially be really great for us. It is possible, especially with the QB we have in Sanchez.

Eli and Brees have both proven this, which should give us hope for the future. What does hope hurt?

Alex Smith's "flashes": Throwing for 17 TDs in a season (+2 more rushing) and throwing a career high in passing yards -- 3,144 -- which works out to be 197 yds/game

Mark Sanchez "sucking": Setting the Jets franchise record for total TDs in a season with 32 (26 passing / 6 rushing)

The only similarity both guys have is far they're athletic. Anyone who watched the game yesterday saw him throw AT LEAST 5 ducks into the ground when he tried to throw on the run, another thing Sanchez does way better.

The point is not that Sanchez is necessarily going to have the same success as Eli just because they had very similar situations in their first 3 years, the point is that nobody can say that Sanchez won't turn into a high caliber NFL QB based solely on his first 3 years. Neither can we say that he definitely will. Have a little patience.

FACT: Sanchez has played better than Eli in both championship games.

Elis team has carried him a lot in both playoff runs, especially last week against the 49ers. Eli really has no right to be in the Super Bowl, he didnt play good enough to be in it. Its unfortunate Williams made those 2 huge mistakes because that game was going to end 14-10.

Didn't play good enough? Eli made some amazing throws. He was 32-58 for 316 yds 2 TDs and 0 INTs and had to make it happen passing because the running game wasn't getting it done. I'm a Jets fan, not a Giant fan, but I don't think you can say that Eli didn't play well enough. The 9'ers D is tough.

If Sanchez had that line he'd be getting KILLED for his 55% completion rate.

I would love nothing more than Mark to have success, in saying this why have we seen year after year of the same dumb ass mistakes coming from him. Every Qb has had flashes of greatness, to bad it is only for 6 plays a game.....
