This is why the Jets have to either draft another Running Back or see if Powell can be that other guy to spell Greene.
If Manning was 100% healthy then Andrew Luck would be sucking it up right now and preparing to sit for a few seasons behind him in that dome. The fact that Manning isn't clearly ready to go at the moment is a reflection of the fact that he didn't have surgery until late summer because he was supposed to be ready to go last season after the midwinter surgery he had after 2010. A betting man would put money on Peyton Manning never winning another game in the NFL at this point. That's because this is going to be his second attempt to come back from the same surgical procedure and the first one failed.
Weren't the first two procedures just an attempt to fix a nagging pinched nerve issue? The third surgery was the only major one, a bigger step because the first two minimally invasive procedures didn't get the job done.
This is really scary because of all the Super Bowls that Dan Marino won in a Dolphin's uniform in his prime years. Old Man Manning is goging to go in there and do even better...
I'm not doubting you, but who said it? I've been watching ESPN and haven't heard a thing, nor is it scrolling in the NFL news. I'm assuming it was an insider because obviously a team can't say that while someone is under contract. Seems like big news for nobody to be talking about it.
Its scary because of he ends up Miami, they can beat us without him, but with him and Marshall forget it. We will never make the playoffs under Rex again. We will get wrecked by Brady and Manning. If Manning lands in Miami, it might cost Tannenbaum and Rex their jobs.
The first two surgeries to correct the pinched nerve didn't fix the problem. Manning missed the 2010 season as a result. The major surgery to fuse the anterior vertebrae was an attempt to fix the problem once and for all. Three surgeries on his neck since the end of the 2009 season suggest that Manning is at the end of the road. Having major surgery after two minor surgeries failed to correct the problem is not a positive thing. It's a negative development.
It was the show with Wilbon, but heres an article from today, straight from NFL.com and the Miami Herald. http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/01/23/2603050/peyton-manning-sits-atop-miami.html http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...nning-if-available?module=HP11_headline_stack "Manning sits atop the Dolphins’ quarterback wish list this offseason, and they will aggressively pursue him if he’s a free agent and if he’s cleared medically, two people with direct knowledge of Miami’s plans said in the past week."
I see that you added a couple of conditions to the status of players. Please allow me to add some conditions of my own. Holmes- A punk just off signing a large multi year deal chock full of stat incentives. And named captain, admittedly a mistake by the HC after the locker room publicly implodes. Burress- after a couple of years in prison. Active players can 'lose a step.' Burress lost half a dozen. 4th Year Keller- being double covered many times because he is the primary target... See the above two entries Rookie Kerley When you take those things into account, the comparison is not convincing at all.
Jim Isray also tweeted today: "Many surprises to come over the next 2 weeks..let the games before the games begin"
Im sorry but Peyton manning cant turn a heaping pile of shit into an all pro team. Can he take a team with a poor qb up to the next level sure, but hes not going to solve all their woes. Fact is this team was 11-5 only 2 years ago, and if we can beat Brady 3/7 times in the Rex Ryan era then why the hell are people acting like we cant beat Peyton ?
Wow..again nobody gets it....Peyton Manning is the entire team as anybody who watched the Colts or read the writers would know based on their 2-14 season. That wouldn't even be close to being true if he came here.
He's done that for most of the last 13 years now. The Colts roster is a steaming turd. It was a bit better in the past, but he took the same crappy players to 14-2 and 10-6 the last 2 years that went 2-14 this year. The Colts scored TWO HUNDRED LESS POINTS this year. Who did they lose? I'm willing to argue that the 2011 Jets were a more talented team than Peyton Manning has ever played with. At the very least, well superior to any Colts team since Edgerrin James left. (And look how well even he did elsewhere)
It would be truer than you imagine at the moment as you think of Peyton Manning dropping back in his prime to pass his team to victory and then failing at the end when a passing game doesn't matter as much against a strong pass rush or in the cold. Peyton Manning hasn't beaten the Pats much in the post-season. He's been absolutely miserable against the Chargers. He's gotten beaten randomly by the hot team going into the playoffs, like the Jets in 2002 and the Steelers in 2005. Here you'll get Peyton Manning in January in NY or New England or Denver and he'll suck just as much as he has in the past and the Jets won't be able to overcome that, because they're not that good at this point. Transplanting Peyton Manning onto this team is almost the perfect meld: an aging injury-prone superstar at QB for an aging injury-prone team that has no impact players on the offense and won't even after he gets here, and just a cornerback and an inside linebacker that are above league average on the defense. 8-8 will look real good in a year or two if this becomes the Jet's panic move right now.
You won't be getting the Peyton Manning that won four NFL MVPs and a Lombardi. You will get getting a 36 year old QB coming off a serious neck injury. Just ONE more hit to that area and he is finished
I didn't add any conditions. I was comparing the players as they were/are at each respective time. Burress couldn't get separation but was still a red zone and jump ball specialist. Rookie Kerley and Rookie Stuckey are a wash, but Kerley was and will be the better player. Holmes 2011 is obviously a superior player to either Cotchery or Coles 2008. There is no locker room explosion with Brett Favre force feeding line drives Santonio Holmes. Even if the picks are higher, so are the touchdowns. Without the turmoil, we probably finish with a better record.
Do people not realize the entire point of the surgery was to stabilize and strengthen Peyton Manning's neck? There is a good chance he is HEALTHIER in 2012 than he was in 2010, especially with the emphasis being placed on rehab, a la pitchers sometimes coming back stronger after Tommy John surgery.
