I generally like the front seven players from Alabama (since they play classic Fairbanks-Bullough 3-4) so know where my preference comes from. I hear that Chapman played seven games on torn ACL. If he falls below 4th or 5th, should we give him a look? He still looked like a legitimate NT to me, anchoring the ferocious Alabama defense.
With Pouha, Ellis and Tevaseau we don't really have a need there. That said I'm all for the BPA and Chapman is a solid NT prospect.
I would take him in a heartbeat. As you know NT don't accumulate a lot of personal stats but there was a noticeable difference when he was out on running plays. He won't be at senior bowl and will not be able to run at combine. He is hoping to set a lift record. If you can play 6-7 games in the SEC on a knee brace their is no questioning your toughness. I would love him in the sixth maybe fifth especially if you get a comp pick in that round.
Speaking of DL out of Bama, how do you guys rate Jesse Williams? He is a junior - I know but, he looks like he could come and play in the NFL immediately if you ask me. I mean, he's got the bulk, with athletic legs and feet (= Motors, people!) and most of all, he comes with power as well. Pretty good combination, if you ask me. (Just like Chapman.) Is he coming out this year?
Ellis hasnt shown much (yet), Tevaseau I dont think is anything more than filler, and Pouha is older (plus not under contract) Our rush defense sucked this year, so getting better in the trenches is something im looking forward too (and yes a large part of this is our olbs sealing the edge/BTs injury but nevertheless)
I'm not that high on Chapman, he's one of the strongest players in the entire draft, but really 1 dimensional as a NG. Don't get me wrong, a lot of starting NGs are just that, but I really wouldn't spend a 1-4 on a NG on one unless you have to drastically reach for one because you don't have one. He's coming back for his Senior year. There are talks about him shifting in to NG to replace Chapman(he was already 3rd there this year behind him and Nick Gentry, both Seniors). There are questions about his legs though, some think they are a bit thin for a DT/DE/NG. He has a massive upper body though, really really stout. Plus he rocks a Mohawk mullet and is tatted from head to toe. Not to mention he's OG Aboriginal...
We have some good young pieces on the d-line but one more body cant hurt, i think we will get a developmental project in the 5/6th round dont think he will be there by then but Rex is notorious for developing d-line players so its encouraging
Here's another Alabama player that I would love for the Jets to draft. Why waste a pick on a guy like Kenrick Ellis when you can get a solid stud like Chapman.
Especially given Ellis' legal status still being up in the air I am all for getting more depth along the line.
