Jets owner Woody Johnson stated unequivocally Thursday that Santonio Holmes will be back with the team in 2012. "He may be one of the best players we've ever had," said Johnson, who may be a bit biased after forking over a $45.25M contract for Holmes in late July. LaDanian Tomlinson called the rift between Holmes and Mark Sanchez "as bad as I've ever been around," and isn't sure the relationship can be repaired. Im glad hes coming back. His contract makes him untradable and you cant cut him due to the cap figure. We just gotta stick it out with him and hope for the best. With new names on the roster next year, it could do some good.
Eggzactly. I am concerned about his immaturity, but what his over the top critics fail to acknowledge is that Holmes wants to win, to succeed on the field, and gets frustrated when he sees other players holding the team back. I understand and agree that other players have a problem with his behavior, but he's all about wanting to win.
Holmes is a joke. Any fan who can cheer for him after what he did is crazy. He is pathetic. Pittsburgh got a steal with that 5th round pick.
You don't think every player on the team wants to win? Holmes knew eggzactly what he was signing up for when he decided to accept the Jets offer. This was the first time in his career he was supposed to be counted on as the #1 guy and he didn't live up to it. There were certainly issues with the QB and protection as well, but Holmes struggled himself. He should be pointing the finger at himself first and asking himself how he can do better because he was certainly not without his own flaws.

I can only agree with the part where he wants to succeed on the field. He gets frustrated with others when they hold him back. A win is only a byproduct of his great play in his egocentric view and divas like him are fine with losing so long as he gets his numbers and his $.
I don't mind players being selfish. Every successful teams has them and deals with them. But giving up on the field and undermining your quarterback is way, way over the line. I'd rather see the Jets get rid of him somehow.
:lol: Woody is funny. He's not even in the top 5 for receivers. Off the top of my head, Maynard, Toon, Walker, Chrebet, Sauer Jr., Keyshawn, LC., Mickey Schuler (TE, but he was smooth). Jeez, Santana Moss will probably finish with a better career than Holmes...
Have to agree with LTJF. Everyone wants to win. When you don't win (just like any other business) you deal with it and try to get better. When Holmes took the contract he had to know that Braylon would not be signed and it would be understood that he would have to raise his game. I don't think he did that this past year. Can he (and the rest of the squad) come back? You never know. With a off-season to patch things up it's a possibility. Pie-in-the-sky? Perhaps.
Holmes is still the most talented skill position player on the Jets. He made a number of big plays this year. Not enough, but what his responsibility is compared to others is what we are debating. I don't know whether Holmes knew Edwards was gone, but the Jets also were talking to Burress and Mason. How Holmes was to know that Mason would flunk out and Burress would not do anything between the twenties is far from clear. The main thing is that the Jets entered the season with more of a vertical passing attack, but Sanchez could not deliver on his end. Whether it made sense to reorient the O to include the vertical attack is, again, subject to debate. But Holmes no doubt expected they would, and would stick with it. And he sure didn't expect there would be games where he would be targetted only one time the whole game. I think what happened is Ryan and Schotty decided Mark could still not be counted on to get it done in the vertical passing game, and this meant much less for Holmes to do. It's not hard to understand why the arc of Holmes's situation this past season proceeeded from signing with the team as an FA to the end of the season's squabbles. He thinks Mark is holding back the O.
Is that why they had like 60 pass attempts against the Giants? Schotty didn't decide anything, he just kept pushing his overly complex play designs that take a long time to develop when Mark was hurt for almost half the season, with abysmal protection no running game, and no deep threat. But it's all Mark's fault.
