A little something I’ve done with my free time the past few weeks. I know it’s really long but I thought it would be easier to explain my selections rather then defending them later. Hope you enjoy it.

    Restructure:

Calvin Pace- He’s making a ton of money he really needs to restructure

    Cut:

    Wayne Hunter- Saves 2.5 M
    Greg MacElroy- Fu*k him

    Trade

Holmes to Panthers for DeAngelo Williams:

Why Carolina and the Jets agree to the trade: Carolina has tons of cap space and they want to give Cam (a budding Star) as many quality options as possible. Holmes is young still and can grow with Cam. Plus Williams got out played by Stewart this year. The Jets get a speedy back to go with Green’s power, giving them a great 1 2 punch and improving the ground game. Also the Jets get rid of a locker room cancer and save 9.2 M – 5M for Williams Contract= total savings of 4 Million

Scott to the Cardinals for a 2012 conditional pick

Why this trade happens: Scott is old and not playing up to his potential. The Jets basically trade him away for nothing to dump his contract. The Cards need help at ILB and they have the cap space. They play in a division with Lynch, Jackson, and gore so they defiantly need help stopping the run. Jets save 6 M.

Total Savings from cutting Hunter and trading Holmes and Scott: 12.5 M

    Free Agency

Sione Pouha NT- He’s worth a big contract but he’s 33. He must re-sign as he is a leader and a solid player. I think his contract will be similar to Aubrayo Franklin (1 yr 4 million) but since he’s older I’m thinking 3 years 10 Million.

Robert Turner G/C- Great back up who’s versatile and skilled. 2 years 2 million

Donald Strickland CB- You won’t get a much better 4th CB. 2 year 1.5 million

Bryan Thomas OLB- He was never great but he was always solid, he brings experience and leadership to a young team in need of both, plus he’ll be cheap considering ability, age, and injury. 2 year 2 million

Jim Leonhard S- Leader who provides depth at safety and punter returner. Like Thomas he’ll come cheap due to size, age, and back to back injuries. 2 year 2 M

Michael Griffin S (Ten)- The Jets have a problem covering TEs and a safety could really help. Griffin can play man and zone coverage very well, which is exactly what the Jets need. He’ll get something similar to Dawan Landry (5 year 27.5 M)

Robert Meachem WR (NO)- Speedster who can be the deep threat the Jets desperately needed. I think he can be a good receiver in this system who will force defensives to respect the deep pass. 3 years 11 M

Braylon Edwards WR (SF)- I feel that the Jets really wanted to re-sign him last year but they knew his knee needed surgery. He had the best chemistry with Mark of any of the receivers we’ve had and he’ll come cheap, this is an easy decision 1 year 1.75 million

John Carlson TE (SEA)- Big (6’5 250) TE who’s a good blocker and a good receiver especially in the red zone. He would be a great compliment to Keller and will defiantly get a lot of playing time as sparano will likely run a lot of 2 TE sets. I think he’ll get something similar to but less then Kevin Boss (4 years 16 million) he’s better then Boss but missed all of 2011 with a torn pec

Khalif Barnes OT (OAK)- Starting RT for the raiders run heavy offense. He’s a really good run blocker but average pass blocker (in 7 years as a starter allowed 28 sacks according to http://stats.washingtonpost.com/fb/playerstats.asp?id=7228 ). He’s big (6’5 325) and only 30. He should come relatively cheap something like 2 years 3.5 M

Josh Scobee K (JAC)- Ill be honest Scobee wouldn’t be my first choice but he’s better then folk and I think he’ll be the best available considering the bucs will probably grossly over pay Barth. Over the last 3 years he has been accurate under 40 yards hitting 93% vs folks 86%. 2 years 2 million

    Draft

Rd 1: Whitney Mercilus/ Courtney Upshaw OLB- every Jets fan has been begging for a pass rusher for years. I feel that the Bills will draft the top 3-4 pass rusher letting either Mercilus or Upshaw drop. Personally I’d rather Mercilus because he provides a better pass rush which is defiantly one of the Jets biggest weaknesses, plus he’s getting a lot of JPP comparisons because of his freakish athletic ability, with Rex teaching him I think he can be a star. (*I also think the top WR (Blackman Min, Jeffery Was, Floyd PHI) and OT (Kalil STL, Reiff MIA, Martin KC) will all be gone by #16).

    Trade 2nd round (#47) and a 1st in 2013 for Detroit’s 1st round pick (#23)

Rd 1: Vontez Burfict ILB- The Jets 2 biggest problems on defense are covering TEs and rushing the passer, Burfict can excel at both. He posses the swagger and aggressiveness that Rex loves. Burfict, Harris, and Mercilus will make up ¾ of the best line backing core in the NFL for many years to come. (*I know giving up a 1st next year is a lot but the way things look with the Jets I think they can spare losing that pick, it will only be necessary if they need a new QB, which I don’t think they will, and either way the pick will hopefully be to late to get a good QB anyway)

    Trade 3rd round (#78) 5th from Jacksonville (Lowery) (#133) and Jets 7th (206) for Washington 3rd round pick (#70)

3rd round: Levy Adcock OT- Big powerful OT. He is already a good run blocker but could use some development on pass blocking, he will back up Barnes for a year or two until he’s ready to take over the RT spot. He will also play on jumbo packages

4th round: Brandon Weeden QB- Weeden is a mature big armed pocket passer who if it were not for his age he would have gone much earlier. I think he could be someone to push and compete with Mark as well as being a serviceable back up and spot starter

5th round: BJ Cunningham- I know a lot of guys here are drafting him in the 3rd in some mocks but he’s no where near the top of this very deep WR class. Two reference sites I use walterfootball.com and espn.com have him ranked 21st and 14th WR respectively. Cunningham is a big sure handed WR who struggles to get separation but is a major steal at this point in the draft

6th round: Lance Mitchell S- Tall 6’2 developmental safety. Had 10 tackles and 2 PD against Stamford. Should be a decent back up and special teamer.

    2012 roster:

    QB: Sanchez, Weeden, O’Connell
    RB: Williams, Green, McKnight, Powell
    FB: Conner
WR: Meachem, Edwards, Kerley, Cunningham, Turner
    TE: Keller, Carlson, Cumberland
    OT: Ferguson, Barnes, Adcock
    OG: Moore, Slauson, Ducasse
    C: Mangold, Turner

    DE: Wilkerson, DeVito, Dixon, Pitoitua
    NT: Pouha, Ellis, Tevaseu
OLB: Pace, Mercilus/Upshaw, Thomas, Maybin, Westerman
    ILB: Harris, Burfict, Bellore, Mauga
CB: Revis, Cro, Wilson, Strickland, Cole, Trufant
    S: Griffin, Smith, Leonhard, Mitchell

    K: Scobee
    P: Conley
    LS: Purdum

Trading Holmes and not getting an impact WR at all to scare opposing defenses would send our offense into a tailspin. If Holmes leaves we have to replace him with a WR like VJax or Bowe. Guy that needs to be game planned for. Or else we'll get 8 in the box every game and then it's back on Sanchez to do it himself. I like the draft but am never really too fond of trading away future first-rounders. Although if I were to do it for anyone it would be Burfict or a WR like Floyd if they made it to the mid-20's

Honestly I like it... Not so sure about Carlson( eXpect Keller to leave or demand big bucks) and bringing back BT(because of the chance we DONT draft OLB early) Fuck Holmes there are plently of ways to find players with HUSTLE Holmes Dogs it if he is not involved.

If we traded our 2nd round pick and future 1st round pick to get into the first round again this year I'd rather take Hightower than Burfict.

I'm sure Carolina is chomping at the bit to put their 2nd year still developing QB with an overpaid malcontent who wore out his welcome in two locker rooms.

Meh.. Hightower is the more well rounded LB. He may not be a freakish athlete but he is still a VG athlete, he is very good in coverage and can also blitz very well. The biggest difference is that Hightower is mentally tough/smart on the football field and Burfict is absolutely not.

We need great football players that can transition into leaders. We don't need any more nut cases in that locker room.

The only thing I like about this is the very enticing idea of trading Holmes (overpaid player) for another overpaid player who doesnt have problems with Sanchez.

Other than that its mostly ridiculous and unrealistic. Not to mention I would hate and I mean HATE if our draft itself looked anything even remotely like that above (mortgaging the future, no thanks im not a Raiders fan)

    Absolutely love it.

Personally, I'd go for Garcon as one of the WRs rather than Meachem/Edwards. I like his upside more, honestly, and just get the impression he's more focused on improving than the other two. I'm starting to think Edwards is done. I thought Meachem was going to be awesome when he came into the NFL, but he's done nothing but disappoint.

Garcon is good, really fast & for all tense & purposes a class act, interesting if we were able to get him.

Explain how it's ridiculous! Do you put it past MT to trade draft picks, he does it every year! (Sanchez, Green, McKnight, Kerely) He makes draft trades every year! Why would he not do it this year. Plus Scott is a big contract who needs to be dumped, therefore his replacement is very important. I'd love Hightower but I think he'll go before 22 and even if he were there the Jets need Burfict's alethic ability to run with TE's, because last time I checked NE (who BTW is in our division not sure if you know that) has two really good TEs who the Jets need to stop if they want to be top of the division. And with the new rookie wage scale trading into the 1st is more realistic (Falcons, Raiders, Saints all traded draft picks last year). The reason I have the Jets trading an over paid player for an over paid player is because how else would you dump Holmes? Also explain how you hate the draft is getting better really that much of an issue or are you upset that I have the Jets drafting Weeden instead of Luck in the 4th.Also we should really hold onto our 5th and 7th round picks and not get a future OT, briliant! LOL

The Jets had two good WR this year and neither preformed well. Meachem and Edwards provide a good deep threat (Meachem) as well as a good possession receiver (Edwards) to complement each other. The Jets will want to run the ball alot and because of that I don't think getting a star WR when money is limited and there are alot of holes is a great idea. I prefer two solid TEs then WR because they will help the ground game more then any receiver. Plus Carlson and Keller are both 50+ catch a year guys.

Id be pissed if that is how our offseason looked.

First off I'm against trading Holmes, and for DeAngelo Williams come on now.

Bryan Thomas should not be on our roster next year in any capacity. Everyones love for Braylon is beyond me

If we are going to acquire two first round picks, we should not spend back to back picks on linebackers

Like some of the aspects of parts of your plan but like everyone we all have different opinions. I will do a similar offseason mock soon so hope you can go through my ideas also. Nobody knows what we will do as its just speculation atm but id be shocked if some big name players werent brought in through trade, FA and the draft.

Holmes is a cancer who can't work with Mark, one has to go and I know many people want Mark gone but it's easier to replace a drama queen WR then an QB. I would be really upset if Holmes was a Jet next season he's due 9 M and played like total shit this year on top of his constant negative attitude (read rex's book he wants nothing to do with people with his attitude, ex. Rhodes) he belongs no where near this team! If they could get williams for Holmes I'd be really happy because they get a valuable piece for a piece of shit. I'd be happy if they traded Holmes for a steaming pile of shit at this point as long as he's not in Jet green next season. Bryan Thomas is a leader who knows Rexs system and would take some pressure of Mercilus as he learns how to play LB, plus he'll be really cheap so why not? I agree 2 1st round pick LBs is a bit much but when you consider that on D there are really only 4 holes (FS, SS, ILB, OLB) and one hole was filled by Griffin it makes sense to complete the d so they can grow together. Those 2 LBs would complete this defense and make them dominate again!

I'm surprised you couldn't find a way to trade for Calvin Johnson, Pat Willis would look good in our D too.

Wow. Holmes and Scott have no trade value. Don't want Burfict. We should be working on getting rid of bad guys, not adding.
