You might want to check the calendar. It's 2012. You might also want to review those games in 2009 and 2010. The Jets got to the playoffs in 2009 because Indy rested its starters, and in both of those years, the Jets had a dominant defense and a dominant running game. You are deluding yourself that Sanchez got the Jets to the playoffs and helped them win there. He was along for the ride. Moreover, for all the whining around about how the Jets D played this year, it was still the #5 defense in the NFL. It was having the #25 ranked offense that tells the sad story of the 2011 Jets. We all know that Sanchez would put up Pro Bowl numbers if he only had to face crappy pass defenses like the Bills have, but unfortunately for you, he only gets to play the Bills twice a year. Even the Carpies schooled him in a win-and-you're-in-the-playoffs game, and you wonder why Holmes got mad.
I think there's some truth to this. I suspect most Jet players are in the same place most rational Jet fans are - tantalized by Sanchez's talent, on display sporadically the last three years, but frustrated with his spotty execution. They're in his corner, for now, but that probably won't last if he doesn't improve next year.
Viewing this situation as a fan of a divisional rival... The Jets don't necessarily need to "clean house." They need to identify the two or three players who are the alleged ringleaders of the circus, send them packing (regardless of salary cap ramifications), and essentially make examples of them. Then the "fringe" clowns will straighten their shit out. Sometimes you have to lop off two or three heads. It happened in 2009 with the Patriots when guys like Adalius Thomas and Shawn Springs were fucking around too much. Then when Moss started pulling his stupid shit last season they traded him without a second thought. I've said from the beginning of Rex's tenure that his approach was refreshing and original when it comes to NFL coaches, but that he was shortening his own shelf life in the process. I actually like Rex a lot and respect his ability to put together a game plan. I just think LT's comments indicate that his act is getting old, even within his own locker room.

I've worried about this since Rex's first season. It's much easier for a disciplinarian to loosen up when necessary than it is for a "player's coach" to tighten the reigns when discipline slips. I'm not saying Rex can't do it, but he's got something of an uphill battle ahead of him. I think he absolutely has to set a no bullshit tone in training camp this year.
Ohh so one down year at 8-8(a record a Bills fan would kill for) tells us more than the 2 seasons he helped us get to title games. In 2004 Pitt rested their started for a full game and Buffalo had them at home needing a win to get in but their backups beat you. We got backups for a qtr and a half and we took care of business. Our defense was not dominat in 2010 and neither was our ground game, we won 11 games b/c Sanchez pulled 4-5 games out late. #5 in yds allowed, 20th in pts allowed. Our D was the # reason we struggled, they had some good games to skew #s but blew up at critical times. Both NE games and Oak game we scored TDs early in the 4th to pull w/in 6 or 7- eaxch time the D allowed the opposing O to march down the field and score. The Den game the D played well for 55 mins then allowed a non throwing QB to go 95 yds and win the game in the final minute, against the Giants up 7-3 w/ the Giants on their 1 w/ a 3rd and 10 they allowed a 99 yd TD pass, against Miami leading 10-6 they allowed a 21 play 12 1/2 min TD drive to change that game. BB got rid of those guys when they couldn't play anymore.
Another great post man. People here bitch about the defense, and the defense does need some speed at linebacker and talent at safety. But, 27 teams would kill to have the Jets defense. The defense's only problem is that after watching Sanchez do nothing for 55 minutes, they could not make one final stop many times. But put yourself in their shoes - you play your hearts out for 55 minutes, get no help from the offense or special teams and then are asked to do even more. Has to be disheartening. The problem is the offense. And specifically, the pass offense. Now, people might say the Jets had wr's, but that is crap. You have two top wr's who just did not get the ball enough. You throw to Tone at least 8-10 times every fucking game, not once. You throw to Plax the same amount. Instead, the offense was rpedicated on dump-off's to Shonn Greene, LT and Connor and passes short of the 1st down marker to wr's on 3rd down. But, again, it cant be a ceratin someone's fault for some. So, we get into the issue of HB's, the line, play-calling etc.. Greene was mediocre. However, how can you be great when no defense thinks your qb can throw it more than 10 yards, cant throw outside the numbers, and has no accuracy. Teams, like they should have, stacked the box and prayed that Sanchez would throw. That had an adverse effect on Greene, LT, McKnight, everyone. You cant do much if guys know you have to run to win, and can just play to prevent that. And you all know that if this was the Dolphins or Bills with this issue, we would be killin Rex if he did not stack the box and force the qb to beat us. As for the line, blaming the line is ridiculous as well. The line is solid on the left side with 2 pro-bowl caliber players and a very under-valued player in Slausen. Yes, Moore wasn't great and Turner was awful. But, imagine being Wayne Hunter. You know your qb will never get rid of it quickly. Instead of having the game slow down for him, allowing him to focus on one guy for a few seconds, he knows he must account for the blitzer and block him for 5+ seconds for Sanchez to have the chance. What effect do you think that creates? And run blocking is a similar story. So, the mroal of the sroty is that one player is to blame for this. Just one. He has such an adverse effect on this team that it would almost be irresponsible and negligent for the team to go into 2012 with him as the starting qb.
Your completely disregarding Sanchez's 9 TDs, 3 Ints in the playoffs when you say he was along for the ride which is ridiculous. He didn't exactly carry us through the playoffs but to say he was just along for the ride is extreme.
The Jets don't beat the Pats last year in the playoffs unless Sanchez played very well on the day. He was the best player on the field for the Jets in what was their biggest win in about a decade.
I love the excuses for the D so when we got w/in 6-7 at Oak and the 2 NE games then the D allowed the opposing O's to score to put the games away that was on the O? when we got the lead late ion the 1st half at home vs. NE and the D allowed Brady to go 80 yds in a min to take the lead that was on the O? w/ a 3 pt lead at den and the O controlling the clock most of the night they allowed a non passing team to go 95 yds in the final minutes to ein- this was on the O? up 7-3 vs. NYG w/ 3rd and 10 from the NYG 1 they allow a 99 yd TD to change the game- this was on the O? at Miami up 10-6 they allow a TWENTY ONE play drive that took 12 1/2 mins to change the game- this was on the O? Our D has been good to very good the last 3 years but never great, they have blown too many late leads and had to many critical breakdowns in big spots. If our D played like '09 we easily make the playoffs, the D cost us more than the O.
I'm not sure he was the best player but he outplayed the best QB in the game on the road and was excellent for us in that game.
Fire Rex. Clean house. Start over. Hearing all this stuff, I can only assume it will go from bad to worse. Don't let it. Be proactive Woody! When I read this, it confirms what I have been thinking for a while now. Mike Tannenbaum needs to go and he needs to go quick. I watch every play this year, we just didn't have the talent to compete. and that's squarely on the GM. We had no pass rusher, the O-Line was a mess and Holmes was a mistake. He needs to be fired.
Winning cures everything. Rex set expectations high and the team fell short. This is going to happen every time the jets lose with a coach like Rex. I can see why it may seem that way, but no... I'm not savoring this, honestly. Maybe if I was less worried about Sunday, but right now it's kind of on the peripheral for me. I've actually enjoyed the fact that the Jets have made it a legit rivalry. That makes things more interesting in the division, and it looks like the Indy-NE rivalry is a thing of the past so something needs to take its place. And overall that's not my MO. I don't think Pats fans last long around GG if we're dicks about it. :beer: I think he can clean this up too. It will take a couple of "statement moves" though. Like when Gene Hackman puts only four players on the floor in "Hoosiers" because his team isn't listening to him, if you know what I mean. To an extent that's true, but I have a hard time believing that they were worse than the guys who replaced them on the field. Belichick didn't cut them midseason but as soon as the year ended they were goners. Thomas especially would have had a chance to stick around in a backup/specialty role if he had shut his mouth.
I think the real "mroal of the sroty" here is, "There's no limit to how many times an obsessed fan will present the same hyperbolic arguments to bad mouth a player he's decided is the root of all evil in the world." We get it, broken record, you don't like Sanchez.
Again, imaginge being Bart Scott. You are out there missing tackles left and right, but being saved by the other 10 guys (better make that 9 with Eric Smith out there). However, in hard games, you look up with 7:30 left in the 4th and you are down after Mark Sanchez just threw a pick 6. Sure, you are in the game, but you have to be deflated. The thought, "jesus christ, why do we always have to win the game," creeps into the back of your mind. And you go out there and make a stop to give the offense the ball back. What happens? You guessed it, another 3 and out and the team is still down. How deflated would you be? How deflated would you be if this happened non-stop for 3 years now? So, its easy to get on the defense, but they have been top 5 every year since Rex has been here with glaring holes.
Can the team win again with Rex though? is the question. Seems the locker room is a mess. Rex said he didn't even realize it? How dumb can you be? I said clean house and start fresh, but I guess after 2 AFCCG appearances, you can't just do that. If they fail in 2012 though, you can.
you must not have read my recap and in addition to that the O(Sanchez) rescued that D many times in 2010 after late collapses.
Not for nothing, but the defense allowed more points this year than the Patriots did. I'm not sure being top 5 in fewest yards allowed is something to hang your hat on when you're getting killed in red zone efficiency.
