I agree with getting rid of Tanny, but don't know who should be the GM. Do you think Polian would want to walk into this mess?
I'm amazed how much everyone thinks the Jets need to clean house. Just checking out these boards, you'd think Jets have failed to crack .500 during Rex entire career. Rex & Tanny put the Jets one game short of the SB 2 years in a row. Is 8-8 really enough to justify a total revamp?
I can't believe people are actually pointing to the Wilson pick as proof of Tanny's incompetence. You people must be crazy.
A destroyed locker room due to the mindset that talent is more important than team deserves some action. The Oakland Raiders of the late 70's and early 80's are the only team that has had this kind of action going on and still won it all and Al Davis, the most active owner in NFL history was the one who got in between the dogs and broke up the fights.
2nd this. Just like you dont use a 2nd round draft pick as leverage to force a current players hand in contract negotiations/accepting a paycut (drafting Ducasse to deal w/Faneca).
Speaking of Faneca, the whole win now at any cost thing started with signing Faneca as a free agent so that Woody could sell his PSLs. Four years later it would appear we missed our window and that alone is enough reason for Tannenbaum to go.
It just occurred to me, since the Jets thought making Sparano an OC without prior experience at that position made sense, why not make him the GM instead? At least he supposedly would get along with Ryan. j/k
It does for sure, he reminds me of the GM/Owner here in Erie for our OHL hockey team. He helped build the Quebec team that would go on to be the Colorado Avs and win two Cups with a very talent laden team. In his first few years in Erie he consistantly had very high level teams. Then a few key scouts leave, he gets older, his wife gets sick and suddenly, we have one of the worst teams in the league 5 years running. The GM in sports has to be all in. If his mind or heart is not in it things get half done and his team suffers. Polian had been so good, for so long I don't think many saw this coming. Payton covered up for a lot of bad drafting over the years. With him out the complete lack of depth came to light quickly. Looking back over the drafts from the same time frame as we have had tanny is just ugly. I don't know his personal situation, but it seems like the very good GM from the the 80's and 90's is long gone.
It was about WINNING to create excitement for PSLs, our OL was brutal in 2007. faneca and Woody made our Ol really good and Faneca helped Mangold and Brick(specifically) become top OL in this league. That was a GREAT signing.
You need to read more closely. I have not said the Wilson pick is proof of incompetence. But neither is it proof of proficiency. It's somewhere in the middle, and ftr I did not see you arguing the point that you don't use a first round pick to get a nickel back.
Stop it already. Calling for Tanny's and Rex' head at this point in time is just ridiculous and an overreaction. This is a contending team that underacheived this season. It happens EVERY year to SEVERAL teams. Now, I will say that Rex and Tanny have created a situation that they need to make significant progress in taking control of. If it becomes evident they can not or will not then all bets are off.
Fuck Polian. If Clinkscales is getting GM considerations elsewhere, why don't the Jets give him a shot too? I do agree that Tannenbaum needs demoting.
The month is almost over but you got this in just in time to win.. THE DUMBEST THREAD OF THE MONTH!!! The Colts freakin suck, and have for years in every aspect other than passing yards via: Peyton Manning. They sucked ass worse than everyone in 97 and they were able to get peyton other than that what have they done through FA or the draft?
I just wanna see a great draft. I wanna see our rookies next year actually doing something. What's with the Ellis pick from last year? Why was he never playing? Doesn't he have some kind of court date after the Super Bowl
Of course it was, I wasn't suggesting anything different. Now he is gone, Woody is gone, Jenkins is gone and the team is heading down again without a championship. The window is closing or has closed and it is time for a change.
how can you lay draft picks that dont pan out solely on the GM? he has to rely on the advice he gets from the coaches and the scouting staff (which I think do need to be overhauled). nobody gets every 1st round pick right and we have had 2 major busts in the last 10 years or so (gholston and robertson) which is probably no worse than any other team
When did the Jets become a "Super Bowl or bust" kinda team? We've been in playoff contention five of the six years Tanny's been here. The bulk of the players involved with the deep playoff runs of the last two seasons were acquired on his watch. It's asinine to consider firing him after one disappointing season.
