What timeframe are you giving all of this? This is impossible over the course of 1 off season. #1 and #5 have 10s of millions tied up toward the cap. I agree with #2 #3 #4. Tannenbaum really fucked the Jets for years with these contracts.
Didn't see this in here. Cimini's ESPN article on LT. http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/sto...n-describes-rift-mark-sanchez-santonio-holmes If Mark Sanchez and Santonio Holmes remain New York Jets teammates in 2012, they might need an intervention to repair their relationship. The Sanchez-Holmes rift was "as bad as I've ever been around," LaDainian Tomlinson revealed in a television interview. Tomlinson, the latest player to characterize the dissension-torn locker room as The Florham Park Zoo, said he's not sure if Sanchez and Holmes can co-exist. The future Hall of Famer claimed the locker-room problems "got out of hand" toward the end of the season, adding that coach Rex Ryan and general manager Mike Tannenbaum fueled the mentality because they like players that speak their mind. Details of the Sanchez-Holmes feud emerged at the end of the season, but Tomlinson said things started to fall apart in the third or fourth week. "I've been around some locker rooms and quarterback-receiver situations and what-not, but it was as bad as I've been around," Tomlinson said on Showtime's "Inside the NFL," which aired Wednesday night. "You know, it was at the point where I think the players could no longer do anything about it. There was nothing that the players could do. So when it gets to that point, there are certain changes that need to happen. Can it be fixed? I think absolutely it can be. But they're going to have to make some tough decisions." Tomlinson said the players actually had a name for the rift -- the East Coast-West Coast beef, because Sanchez is from California, Holmes from Florida. He said they "poked fun at it," but he added, "In all seriousness, Santonio, obviously, he's a great player. There are some things that obviously he needs to work on as far as being a leader." If he were the GM, Tomlinson said it would be a "tough one," the decision on whether to keep Sanchez and Holmes together. The Jets have said they plan to retain Holmes, who signed a five-year, $45 million contract before the season, but their true intentions will be known in the coming weeks. He's already guaranteed $7.75 million for 2012 and, if they don't cut by him Feb. 8, they'd have to guarantee an additional $7.5 million. Tomlinson, contemplating retirement as he heads into free agency, didn't spare Ryan and Tannenbaum, intimating they contributed to the mess. "They created this," he said. "This is the type of football team that they wanted. Mike Tannenbaum, Rex Ryan are both brash, in-your-face type of style, say whatever you want, just get it done on the field. And then it leads to other things, as guys are calling each other out and saying, 'I'm not getting the ball' or whatever it may be." Perhaps it's no coincidence that, on the field, Sanchez and Holmes had terrible chemistry. There were 29 quarterback-receiver tandems in which the quarterback targeted that specific receiver at least 100 times, and the combo with the worst completion percentage was Sanchez to Holmes -- 50.2 percent. The Sanchez-Holmes relationship started to fray after a Week 4 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, according to a source. Afterward, Holmes called out Sanchez and the offensive line, criticizing them publicly. The next day, Sanchez spoke to the offense as a group, asking for team unity. Shortly thereafter, Holmes made more critical comments to the media. In the days leading up to the final game, Sanchez called a special quarterback-receivers meeting to watch film and Holmes showed up, complaining, as first reported by ESPNNewYork.com. He didn't show for the next day's meeting. In the game, Holmes was benched after jawing with teammates. Tomlinson, reiterating what he said last Sunday on ESPN's NFL Countdown, refuted a claim by one unnamed player telling the New York Daily News that Sanchez is "lazy." But he did say the Jets need a backup to push him. "I would say a bit pampered because he has no competition," Tomlinson said. "He has no real threat to say, 'This guy may take my job.'" Tomlinson said Sanchez can overcome the turmoil, but "he just has to have pieces around him to help him get it done." The NFL's leading active rusher also questioned the decision to stray from their Ground & Pound offense, another shot at Ryan. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," he said. "So a team that was coming off two straight AFC Championship Games relied heavily on the run. My opinion now, why would you just totally switch up your identity at that point?" Tomlinson said he loves playing for the outspoken Ryan, but he admitted he doesn't always like the bravado. "I would prefer him not to say it as much as he did," said Tomlinson, who said plenty himself. Follow Rich Cimini on Twitter: @RichCimini
This is bad news. How in the world could Rex and Tanny let this shit get this far? Why in the hell did not one single player step up and say something during the season. In my opinion they are all a bunch of pussies for not saying anything. This will do one of two things. 1. Bring this team together and make themselves one tough game winning machine. 2. They will totally collapse and will take a decade before they get their shit back together. OK I am wrong about only two things happening. I am just so mad that nobody said anything when everybody knew it was going on. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
the man is just speaking the truth...and atleast he has the balls to say it on national tv and not take cheap shots behind closed doors. I have nothing but respect for the guy...hes been nothing but a professional from the moment he walked through our door. We wont be bringing him back, but we can only hope we can find a leader like him to fill his role.
This is nothing earth shattering and frankly I'm not surprised this occurred. The front office felt they put together the best collection of talent they could regardless of character/locker room demeanor. They watched the 2009 and 2010 teams, who were both filled with just as many characters, completely unite and make 2 straight playoff runs. I believe a big reason why this was possible has alot to do with Rex's training camp philosophy. The Cortland gig is all about team building and creating a "family" atmosphere. This alleviates a lot of the personality conflicts that resonate in locker rooms w/ alot of personalities. I'm not sure what methods Rex uses..but it appears to have done the trick in both 09 and 10. You remove Rex's "team building"camp, shorten TC significantly and bring in some even BIGGER personalities..and what occurred isn't a surprise, especially with the 3 game losing streak that ended the season. There are certainly other factors that played a part and I'm not removing blame..but I believe this is one of the core issues. Moving forward the organization now realizes how crucial Rex's Cortland method seems to be in keeping a family atmosphere within the team. Further adjustments must be made personnel and process wise to ensure that this never happens again.
There's a reason why the fat blowhard got passed over in Baltimore. The HC of the NYJ is a joke. This all falls on the head coach and goes to his inability to run a team. The fat loser should be fired, but I guess we get another season of him trying to clean up his own mess. He won't. E: lol. Training camp is the reason for all this? What's the Giants excuse, they had camp in NJ too this year. What a joke.
How does 2 AFC championship appearances in back to back years, and not a losing season yet equate to "The HC of the NYJ is a joke. This all falls on the head coach and goes to his inability to run a team."?
Keep clutching to that loser line of thinking. We lost two years in a row...we're winners!!!! Pathetic.
You do realize this team went 8-8 and barely missed the playoffs after 2 straight winning seasons/ playoff runs. This team didn't go 4-12 you..right? Fire everybody right? That's the answer. We'll just have a NEW HC/GM and starting 22 every year until we win a SB. Except with this type of thinking that SB will never come to fruition.
U sound exactly like ALL the Ravens fans last year. I remember everyone of them bitching that they should not had hired harbaugh and they should have hired Rex and big of a mistake it was that they didnt. Seriously shutup, im sure you were cheering just as loud as everyone else when the Jets advanced to the championship games the last 2 seasons.
No - Pathetic is cleaning house after the immediate short term results aren't maximum. That is pathetic.
It's time for Woody to step up and start dressing down some folks in the press. It worked for Steinbrenner back in the 70s...and this Jets team is as close to the Bronx Zoo as you can get! That team was fascinating to follow, there were guys who HATED each other..and they wound up winning back to back titles. Reggie and Billy went at in the dugout at Fenway...is this that much different? We're stuck with Santonio.
You happen to see that the guy who did get the B'more job is currently dealing with his star safety calling out the team's QB, Offensive Coordinator, and offensive line before the AFC Championship game? If the Ravens lose Sunday, Harbaugh may be facing some of the same questions Rex is. http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/201...ns-says-joe-flacco-was-rattled-houston-texans
People need to calm down. So this season we saw an offense that disappeared for incredibly long stretches of games, a defense that underachieved against the run and couldn't generate a pass rush, the worst special teams performance in recent memory, and an epic locker room meltdown.....with a result of an 8-8 season. Let's not overreact. Unless Rex and MT completely ignore all of the things noted above, there will be a big improvement next season. Things will change....they are already changing. Schotty is gone. Regardless of the contract, I think Holmes will be gone too. This is the first real crisis of Rex's tenure as HC. Let's see what he can do.
You could be right, but 2 afccgs does earn him another year at turning this around. We've dealt with longer stretches of worse.
I would hope that players would possess enough rationale to consider that maybe Sanchez didn't ask to be pampered, but he was pampered by the Coaching Staff, and therefore, they have mismanaged him. Thus, why should (as LT implied) Sanchez not be brought back?
Thanks LT, all we needed to fuel things even more. That is the one guy I wasn't worried about, and then he goes off and runs his mouth. He's already in ESPN form. Im seriously disappointed in this guy after all the class he's shown as a Jet. He didn't need to come out and run his mouth like the other assholes who can't seem to keep things in house. Shit like this happens, just keep it in house. People just love headlines.
Some of you are out of your fucking mind... unreal. Never seen so many damn `sky is falling` fans in my life and its to the point where this board is unreadable!! Welcome to the NY media market... jesus christ... and see ya later
