On the official site, there is a segment with Sparano. Mostly a bunch of fluff, but at the end, Eric Allen asks Fast Tone the following: "How much of an imprint does Bill Parcells have on you?" The response: "An awful lot, Bill Parcells has been one of the biggest mentors I've had, you know, in this business. And I owe a lot to him, he's been a great guy to me, gave me a lot of opportunities Here, but uh, Right Now uh (voice lowers) I sit here as one of Rex Ryan's guys. Start saying your goodbyes to Rex Ryan.
Heh - I wish they showed his face when he said that. I suppose you could be onto something, but it's hard to say from just that.
I am combining this with the tone I got from Rex during the initial hire conference call. If things go bad this upcoming season, get ready for a bigger change than just offensive staff.
If he doesn't fix things next season, we aren't winning and it's a zoo I agree it could be the end of Rex.
The problem is the egotistical jackals that circle the carcass were the ones that buried this team for the early part of last decade. Are the Jets moving backwards or forwards?
I agree with this. He certainly deserves a chance to right the ship. I just don't like the way the locker room went to shit in an 8-8 season. What would it have been like if they had gone 6-10 or worse? Every good coach can have a bad year, but the way the team has reacted during this past year may be a serious indictment on Rex.
Rex Ryan is nowhere near the hot seat. If this team got rid of Rex for any godamn reason at the end of this season, it might be time for me to start following a different sport. Rex is here for the long haul, and anyone who thinks otherwise should just go here http://www.eli-manning.com/
They got rid of Mangini after three seasons. They kept the staff in place and only replaced HC and some defensive components. Rex is not as hard to get rid of as you think.
The fact that Tannenbaum talked to two very recent ex-HC's and hired one of them is a statement in itself and a subtle message to Rex as well. Woody does need to do more than stay in the background on this too. This entire organization is going downhill and if perception counts for anything, there could be some problems attracting top coaching and playing talent to this team. Who wants to come into a chaotic situation where even the media is out to get you? Who needs the headache you ask? Only someone looking for a NFL paycheck. Not someone who could come in a make a real difference. Woody, at the end of this, just might have to clean house again from top to bottom and this time, Tannenbaum, Bradway, Rex, and everyone else associated with the collapse should walk the plank. Its not like the Jets are the only football team in this area and don't think for a moment Woody Johnson doesn't recognize that.
I was thinking the exact same thing about Mangini . I remember how much we loved that guy when he got here--how Tanny went to his house and got him to sign on the dotted line----it went from Mangenius to out the door. quickly. this sux !
How can you compare Mangini to Rex? Rex has been here for 3 years, hasnt had a single losing season yet, went to the AFCCG twice, and has done all this while handcuffed by the Schitty offense they forced upon him, and did it with a rookie QB. Not to mention he single handedly rebuilt the horrific image this team had before him. Went from being an semi-irrelevant franchise to a pain in the fucking ass that nobody wants to play in the playoffs now. Rex is the best thing to happen to the Jets in my lifetime, and thats a fact.
Here is the thing, C. The organization is mostly as intact as it was when Tuna left. It's like he ordered it. Now he can step in, for some perfunctory and self aggrandizing role, and finish the downward spiral that began when he left the Gmen. I don't want the Jets to be part of that.
Seems that rebuilt horrific image has returned hasn't it. The only thing that keeps the Jets relevant now is various players testifying about the locker room and Rex's big mouth in the back pages of the local media. This team went from irrelevant, to the team nobody wanted to play, back to being irrelevant. That it happened in 3 short years is amazing in itself. Rex is certainly his father's child. Definitely has a lot of Buddy in him and evidently, that includes a penchant to self destruct after a time.
